Hello, I'm pretty new here and looking into getting a buell. There's an 09 1125cr at my local dealer I've been looking at but I've been reading about all the electrical issues people have been having. I'm not sure If I should go with the 1125 or an xb12. So I guess my question is this, is it mainly 08's that have issues or all 1125's?

The answer to your question is, all year models share the similar problems, but not every bike has problems. I put 6400 miles on my first CR without any issues, and I have 2500 miles on my current CR without any issues. Not to mention there are little quirks with the XB12.

I have a 09 with a stator problem, it went 4400 miles before I had any problems. They will get it ironed out, it just takes time.

The CR is a bad ass machine I wouldnt hesitate at all. U will like either one though.

09 1125R- Leaking clutch slave actuator at around 2000 miles. It was repaired under warranty. A lot of folks are experiencing long wait times for parts when the bike is in for repair. This is something you need to learn to put up with to own these bikes.

+1 Boss, mine has been in for over 3 weeks now. [mad]

I'm experiencing long wait times for parts as well. Since I purchased my bike in Dec my bike has been in the shop over forty days total for five different maintenance issues. My bike is in the shop now (two weeks tomorrow) for a bad stator that went out just before 4000 miles.

I've had it with the HD dealership and shouldn't have the bike for more than a couple of months as it qualifies as a lemon at this point and I've already retained an attorney.

The bike runs like a son of a bitch when it works but it's hard to promote when you're waiting on the side of the road for a tow truck (which I had to do.)

By the way, I'll have a barely used FMF pipe and K&N airfilter for sale very soon.

My 09 CR has a weeping clutch, which is one of two main issues that alot of owners have. The other is the stator/regulator. I have not yet had an issue with the charging system but I had the stealership order the harness upgrade so they can do that at the same time they fix my clutch. Bright side to the weeping clutch is that the dealership went ahead and ordered the parts without taking the bike in so I can still ride it as the weep is not extreme and is harmless.

I am willing to deal with these issues. It is a good trade off in my opinion to have and ride the 1125. It is truly an awesome machine. Hopefully, once these issues are fixed they will be problem free. The XB's in the early years had quite a few problems that needed ironed out too.

i dont know if my 08r has had all the check ups or the previous owner took care of all the bugs but ive own it without any problems for the last 2000 miles.

08's don't have many issue's
my 2009 has needed a voltage regulator which took a week to get in but i had the bike.
I have 9kish on it the power is awsome and great fun to ride.
Stator's and regulators seem to be common even post recall's
I have a theory that the white 1125's where early 2009 builds and seem to have a ton of issues.
My 05 xb9 has been a great and ultra reliable bike but my gf has since taken it over

i own both an 09 xb12r (have oned 5 in total - both xbs and xbr) and i own a 09 CR.

if you want to ensure a reliable bike then teh xb is it. it has proven itself and is just awesome fun. i have never had issues with any of mine.

saying that the CR is freaking awesome. power and more power. totally different feel to the xb.

if you want veetwin water cooled power then you will have to deal with the few issues. my CR is weeping from the clutch at present. 2700klms old. but it is freaking awesome. it will get sorted though.

if you want a fun piece of kit that is both a great cruiie poser bike and a corner scratcher, then the xb is your calling.

either way, you will have fun!

Thanks for all the responses everyone. The dealership here in town has an 1125cr with 500 miles on it for $8500 (my brother is the mechanic at this dealer btw). Another nearby dealer has a 2008 lightning for the same price. I can't decide. I'm leaning towards the 1125 though.

my 08 1125R has a clean bill of health and just finished my 12,000 mile checkup. most issues are going to be covered under warranty/ recalls etc. the only problem with that is the time it is going to take to get parts ordered as most HD dealers dont carry many spare Buell parts anymore.

Just got 1125R back on Thursday from being in the shop for almost a month with a stator problem. Went for a ride today and noticed now the clutch is starting to weep. So back to the dealer I go!

Where, exactly, does the 1124CR clutch "weep" problem show up?

Mine started spitting fluid out of the small puck insert on the clutch cover (RH side of the bike) making my right boot wet. There is a small weep hole in the puck.

Great bikes and all, but parts take FOREVER. Took a month to receive a part for my shift linkage, only to find out they sent the wrong one. The guy at Harley said it's because they are moving the warehouse away from East Troy and so are having to re-catalog everything. They aren't doing it fast enough, so parts end up sitting in piles waiting to be sorted.

I have a 08 1125R. Had the weep problem, (fixed under warrenty). Problems with the speedo pod - flashing on and off + fuel gauge problems,(fixed under warrenty). Now I'm having problems with the speedo itself saying 0 at hiway speed. Need a new speed sensor. I like the bike because its different, like having a Ferrari in a sea of yugos. But they do have bugs. Everybody here says they rip but I think my 750 GIXXER would smoke my 1125R. Just my opinion. But I diddnt get it cuz it was the fastest thing out there. If you buy a Buell, go into it with your eyes open. If you want a bullet proof proven bike with easy parts and maintenance you should probibly buy a honda or something like that. But if you want something different than everybody else and have some patience. Maybe the Buell is for you.

How are these various "weeping" issues typically resolved? Is it just a gasket problem, or something more complex?

boreas
11-13-2010, 07:01 AM
the water pump issue is being resolved with an inner shaft seal ( motor had to be rotated ) to get at the valve cover (timming chain) it was to take 3hrs and has turned into leaving the bike for a couple of days, also the vss , has also turned into longer than the shop manual time .Warranty is a cool thing!!!The repairs are to be done some time today!

09CR,4200miles, just had the stator and VR replaced under warranty. It took 7 business days, not too bad compared to other guys repairs. My local dealer is keeping an 09 stator, VR in stock. I'm hoping they get this problem figured out because this is a really unique machine. I'm not convinced that the harness upgrade is the right way to fix this. So far 500miles on the repair with no other problems. Too bad the weather is forcing me to put the bike away for the winter. Upstate NY is starting to get cold, bummer.

My CR has 3.4K miles on it and is relatively trouble free except for a failed water pump. I'm keeping an eye on the weeping issue and of course the Stator problem. Otherwise the bike is a hellava fun ride. I bought it as a second bike to use when I want to go longer distances in more comfort. My other two bikes are Ducatis.

I would not hesitate to buy the CR again, even with the current mechanical issues.

23,000 miles on my 2008 1125R and rode like a dream.......Till someone in a car forced me off the road and is currently in the 'total' process of insurance.

I just ordered the EBR Rotor mod, crankshaft tool, gaskets, Voltage regulator, etc. to do my charging system upgrade. Need to get some Amsoil and filter today. Im still looking for the Alternator/ Rotor Removal Tool they mention in the service manual. Tool# B-48857.

New to the site so far it's been great reading through all the post have cleared up some thoughts. I'm on the cr and have never been on a better bike 6500k miles and no problems but now watching out for the stator and clutch leak. Thanks all!!

You won't have problems with the stator and clutch weep at the same time. The 08's are prone to clutch weep, and the 09's are prone to stator fails (Which 99% know there is a fix for both era bikes).
