It may not take the twisties like a Buell, but holy crap does this thing look cool! I guarantee it'll get more stares than your Buell ever will. At $15k, not a bad deal, either, especially if you count the novelty factor.

That thing is pretty wild. Just like those T-rex things. Bad ass

The T-rex is sweet, but it seems like the rear end would come out from under you when accelerating around turns. I know they do donuts with ease.

Swordsman
02-16-2007, 05:09 PM
Yeah, very similar to the T-Rex, except it's affordable! :D

Dunno' 'bout the Rex handling, but I imagine the possibilty of rear end sliding is why the Spyder comes equipped with all that stability-traction-anti-whatchamacallit stuff.

CarandDriver.com thought it was a hoot!

Yet Another Resurection...
So the other day i was riding down the road in the middle of rush hour... This lovely yellow spyder decides to show off... FLIES BY ME, i'm not the racin type so i just take my time...

Whats that up ahead?.... TRAFFIC!!! how can this be. so i pull up to Mr CanAm (insert a Brief Head Nod) and split the lanes for about 3 mile or so.... Mu HA HA HA !!!

I mean if you need training wheels i guess thats a start. It's more logical to by a pair of Heeley shoes and drag you feet i think. To each his own.

my mom road one of those things one time... hit every cone on the course and on top of that said it was the slowest thing she'd ever ridden lol. (her daily rider is an '06 vtx1300)

i rode one on a demo day, if i had no legs, i would own one..lol. i was actually suprised at how fast it was, i was breaking loose the rear tire towards the top of first gear on clean pavement under full throttle acceleration. one brake, right foot, does all your stopping with abs, it would throw you over the handle bars it would stop so quick. its a cool bike or whatever you wanna call it but not my cup of tea. as i did my questionair after my ride i could tell they were being marketed to convertible owners.

i have a friend that has only one leg, he had his motorcycle customized where the shift lever went through the frame to the other side of the bike so he can shift with his right foot. im sure the foot brake on that could be moved to the right hand like the front brake of a normal bike. as long as i have one good leg to stand on and balance i will be on two wheels. legless i would need three wheels for balance issues, get it?

and that demo day was at south texas suzuki in lytle texas, just south of san antonio.

its a snowmobile with wheels!!

it really is

if you guys ever get a chance to ride one, do it, it was fun putting it into the corner hard enough to get the traction control to ABS it down.

RegulatorMIA

seems like it'd be more fun with the traction control... i bet that thing could do mad donuts

Ha. cant handle 2 wheels? Man up! lol JK, the CanAm is cool and all but, why? its a half ass motorcycle, and if your gonna go half ass, might as well go for the protection of a car with a convertible top, essentially the same

I've seen these in person.

I was talking with a guy inside a Harley shop when he started talking about these things. We went outside to check it out and his wife was sitting on it. ;)

Yeah it'll get more stares, by cripples that wish they could ride!

I have a bud who's a HUGE snowmobile guy, say's he can't wait to try one out. Problem is, he has no bike licence (you need one in Ontario) I've thought of going to the test ride but I'm thinking if you can't lift the inside front wheel or slide the back wheel what's the point? ( might be my background as a racing sidecar passenger talking, who can say?) Wayne:)

If you ask me, I think they LOOK pretty cool. If you're one that loves attention, than this is one machine that best suits you.

As for me, I'd either take the ATV with 4 wheels for off road purposes when I'm in the back country on a nice fishing expedition or I just stick to what I know and keep my 2 wheel action for the street.

Especially if I am buying a machine solely for speed that already has no protection around me, unlike an automobile.

I can do without the front training wheels. Left my smurf big wheel back in Oaklahoma City almost 20 years ago lol.

But that's just my 2 cents

Sayjackb

Driving my lawnmower down the road will get more attention then my buell too. But don't go thinking you are riding an actual motorcycle.... Just my 2 cents

I prefer the TT-Busa, more like a bike. Locally done here in Western New York

I was on one at a show once. The rep kept telling me it was nothing like a snowmobile. I couldn't stop laughing at him. It is exactly what I expected....and def not my cup of tea either. Im not going to bash them because for some its this or no form of riding at all, but it is no replacement for a bike.

delta one
10-21-2010, 08:11 PM
yea its a lot like a snowmobile but more advanced

they have dynamic controls on it that are very nice and make it handle better than a snowmobile ever would.
there is even a guy local to me that did the street legal snowmobile conversion and next to a spyder is a worthless pig.

I have a split opinion about the Can-Am Spyder.
You can see my comments and some pics on the following thread Bueller is thinking about becaming a Spyderer (http://www.buellxb.com/Buells-for-Sale/Buell-Lightnings-for-Sale/2009-XB9SX-Columbus-Ohio)

Looks nice but cornering is ...

I have ridden one and it is pretty cool. Not for me but cool. A friend bought one last February and has not stopped riding it. he loves it and plans to use it as his only vehicle even in the winter. I think he has about 30000km on it already and has had no issues with it at all.

Hi Phazernut,

Tell your friend to vizit the dealer for safety recall campain check. BRP has announced the DPS unit (Dynamic Power Steering) recall. Many vehicles should have the DPS unit replaced for a brand new one.

Best regards!

If for some reason I couldn't ride on 2 wheels or too scared I would rock a spyder for sure.
the people who buy them all seem to love them

and the dynamics video seemed to be very impressive

but the drifting looked like fun with the TCS (traction control) off :D[up]

and watch the tires flex when they demo the SCS (stability control)

I'd rock one if I was physically challenged or mellowed out to the point where I would want Adele on the back touring with me all the time..

You bolt guys must like the look of the headlights and a company that wanted to step up and save Buell is all right in my books!

they have a lot of recalls one of them is unintended lane change.can-am had a lot of recalls on older 4 wheelers also.

I've never seen a person riding one without a smile on their face. Seriously.... next time you see one, you'll notice a smile.

I also had a frank smile while riding Spyder a couple of times. It does give pleasure of smooth driving and at slow speed. However when riding over 60 km/h and trying to turn the Spyder starts inclining ouside of the turn (you can not incline it inside of the turn like the 2 wheel bike) and that gives a little bad feeling of cornering. Then you realise that you have to slow down seriously to turn without that feeling that "I am about to tip over"
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7480_20101021130807_L.jpg
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7480_20101021131104_L.jpg

BTW Spyder has no Hand Brake Lever. Only foot brake pedal. If you will have to stop rapidly on the high speed. You'll feel that one foot pedal is not enough. To say more you'll feel as if you are trying to jump out off the bike on the speed by pressing that pedal with your foot.

So this machine has its pros and cons.
Speaking frankly if I were a millionaire then I woud buy this toy as well:)
However if I would have to choose between Spyder or Buell ;) BUELL OF COURSE[up]

they have a lot of recalls one of them is unintended lane change.can-am had a lot of recalls on older 4 wheelers also.

Yeah BRP does have a recall about Steering component (Dynamic Power Steering Motor replacement). They told that Spyder really can change the lane. It is about the Software and Torque sensor of the Motor which assists to steer.
Hwever speaking 'bout BRP Can-Am All Terrain Vehicles (Quads) I can really say that those are reliable and exciting toys. I liked riding a Renegade X (800 cc Rotax V-Twin)

http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7480_20101022101517_L.jpg

and DS 450 X Manual transmission

http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7480_20101022101456_L.jpg
much more than Spyder.
The first one is the ultimate machine and the second is a lightweight mad racer.
Quads from BRP are more interesting than Spyder.
But what I like about Spyders is that version of the Electronic Transmission. You are only pressing the +/- knob to up/down shift gears and that's all - EASY 'n' COMFORTABLE. one more advantage by the way:p.

In theory yes. But I have heard no one experienced that for two years of speaking about that steering problem.[smirk]

it looks like it would be fun to ride. i wouldnt compare it to a bike thought. looks just like a ski doo rev sled from the front. they got a niche going. if i had lot of money i would have one just for the hell of it but it definitly doesnt replace a bike

If we are going on 3 wheels, here is what I want...

The Carver One

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGfWDgMfk_Q

How far does it tilt? 45 degrees from vertical
How fast does it tilt? 80 degrees per second
How Quick? 0-62MPH (100KM) Approx. 8 Seconds
How Fast? 115MPH (185KPH)
What driving license do you need? - Car
How much? Approximately £30K (35Euro)
How much fuel? Approximately 40-45MPG (5 litres per 100 kilometres)

http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7165_20101124003219_L.jpg

and it is a 2 seater!!!

Rode one the other day and it was strange to say the least. Everytime i looked down i thought i was on a watercraft but on the street! Turning was really odd , out of habit i'm leaning one way and the can-am was going the other. I guess after awhile it 's alright, but i'm not a fan of it.[smirk]

How Quick? 0-62MPH (100KM) Approx. 8 Seconds

That's not so quick

That's right along the lines a a full size truck, slower actually.
Ram 1500 has been quoted between 7 and 7.5 seconds

deh2k2
11-24-2010, 03:47 PM
it is not about being quick... we ride Buells not the fastest things on the block... it is about the ride...

that tilting cockpit would be way more fun than 90% of the cars in production, taking a corner at a 45degree tilted cockpit with groceries or a kid in the back, better than an amusement park ride... and I'll take my XB9R over a Hyabusa any day...

I also spent many years riding snomobiles and to me anyway, it felt very similar.

I would feel better on the quad version too

http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/09/concepts/image/quad.jpg

or the V-12

but for more affordability yet still a sufficient level of insanity try one powered by a 300hp STI engine
