Speedo quit working on my 00 M2,i checked all the wiring and all seems to be fine. Trying to narrow down the source of the problem and think it's the speedo sensor. Bike has 30k miles on it. Also the reset button for the odometer is not working but i don't think it's related, i believe it's the button itself.

I had my speedometer fail on me this summer, then my fiance had hers fail about a month ago.

Makes me wonder myself what causes this and if it happens more than noted?

I didn't worry to much as I drive most of the time off sound of the engine through the gears, but my fiance isn't as in tuned to the bike per say.

I have to order a couple to fix our issues before spring.[smirk]

Mine went at around 39k on my xb. I figure it's because of all the vibration and heat. It looks to be a PMPG (permanent magnet pulse generator) sensor. Contains a magnet, and two surefire ways to destroy a magnet is heat and bangin it around.
Just like the abs sensors on your car, they don t last forever.

Thanks for your help everyone. I will start by replacing the sensor then, i will also know where to start if the speedo quits on my XB. Fortunatelly local dealer has one in stock for a change, and it will not involve a week wait like every other Buell part. I did notice though that some M2 parts are obsolete as the parts guy called it, and they don't have them anymore.

Just an update, it was the speedo sensor. Just sucks that it costs $60.

Those sensors are the same ones used on the sportsters, at least on the xb's anyway. It sucks but at least u could fix it urself.

My speedo sensor failed about 2 hours after I bought my old XB9R from my dad's old co-worker(22K Miles). Luckily he was cool and fixed it for free.
