For the 1125 too ?

I was thinking no since the 1125 swingarm already has spools on it but anything is possible. What would the purpose be? You 1125 need to let me know if there's a market for this...

PS - Have a few 1125 sets in hand that can ship right away! Let me know!

Any estimate on time till u get some machined?

My goal is still to get the next round ready for the end of Winter/beginning of Spring time-frame. Will hopefully have a prototype of the slotted type sooner to show you. Feel free to let me know if you intend to buy a set so that I order enough for the demand. I hate not having enough but don't really want to sit on a bunch of them either.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!!

Thanks! At this point, there's no reason it should stray from the $90 shipped priced stated above but I'll keep you all posted should that change. I have a few 1125 sets (front & back) right now. I haven't priced or offered them separately as of yet but I may in the future as I find fitment on other bikes? In that case, it would be in the same time-frame as stated before (late Winter to early Spring). Are you only interested in fronts? For which bike?

I want to make certain that those of you that are asking for the "natural finish" understand that these are bare aluminum and will need to be kept after with polish from time to time. I'll honor requests for these before the parts go to the anodizer but have no plans at this time to stock any in this finish. If I find that alot of you want this I will reconsider but my previous builds showed that black was more popular. Feel free to give me feedback on this.

Thanks![up]

maybe a clear anodize would be better for those that want an aluminum look.
but also some may be wanting to do their own coating on the parts, a powder coat that matches the wheels for instance.

I agree but the quantities thus far haven't warranted it because of minimum order requirements at the anodizer. The same goes for other colors. If someone wants to pay additional for those minimums to be covered, I can accommodate just about any coating.

Will the entire slotted ones be anodized or just the ends?

50dro
01-24-2011, 09:55 PM
The whole aluminum part as was done in the past. This will protect it from damage from the lift. If I'm not mistaken, you can't mask off a part in the anodizing process as you can in powder coating?

If I'm not mistaken, you can't mask off a part in the anodizing process as you can in powder coating?

Correct since Anodizing is actually applied using electrolysis so chemicals are applied not just an electical current. Similar to an electroplating, so basically absorbed into the material versus powder coat that is just a dry paint, melted and baked on to harden.

Anodizing's Benefits

as defined by the Aluminum Anodizing Council

The unique anodized finish is the only one in the metals industry that satisfies each of the factors that must be considered when selecting a high performance aluminum finish:

Durability. Most anodized products have an extremely long life span and offer significant economic advantages through maintenance and operating savings. Anodizing is a reacted finish that is integrated with the underlying aluminum for total bonding and unmatched adhesion.

Color Stability. Exterior anodic coatings provide good stability to ultraviolet rays, do not chip or peel, and are easily repeatable.

Ease of Maintenance. Scars and wear from fabrication, handling, installation, frequent surface dirt cleaning and usage are virtually non-existent. Rinsing or mild soap and water cleaning usually will restore an anodized surface to its original appearance. Mild abrasive cleaners can be used for more difficult deposits.

Aesthetics. Anodizing offers a large increasing number of gloss and color alternatives and minimizes or eliminates color variations. Unlike other finishes, anodizing allows the aluminum to maintain its metallic appearance.

Cost. A lower initial finishing cost combines with lower maintenance costs for greater long-term value.

Health and Safety. Anodizing is a safe process that is not harmful to human health. An anodized finish is chemically stable, will not decompose; is non-toxic; and is heat-resistant to the melting point of aluminum (1,221 degrees F.)

Since the anodizing process is a reinforcement of a naturally occurring oxide process, it is non-hazardous and produces no harmful or dangerous by-products.

http://www.aacoa.com/images/process.jpg

Here is a step by step to the Ano.

Pre-Treatment: Cleaning is done in a non-etching, alkaline detergent heated to approximately 145 degrees Fahrenheit. This process removes accumulated contaminants and light oils.

Rinsing: Multiple rinses, some using strictly de-ionized water, follow each process step.

Etching (Chemical Milling): Etching in caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) prepares the aluminum for anodizing by chemically removing a thin layer of aluminum. This alkaline bath gives the aluminum surface a matte appearance.

Desmutting: Rinsing in an acidic solution removes unwanted surface alloy constituent particles not removed by the etching process.

Anodizing: Aluminum is immersed in a tank containing an electrolyte having a 15% sulfuric acid concentration. Electric current is passed through the electrolyte and the aluminum is made the anode in this electrolytic cell; the tank is the cathode. Voltage applied across the anode and cathode causes negatively charged anions to migrate to the anode where the oxygen in the anions combines with the aluminum to form aluminum oxide (Al2O3).

Coloring: Anodic films are well suited to a variety of coloring methods including absorptive dyeing, both organic and inorganic dyestuffs, and electrolytic coloring, both the Sandocolor® and Anolok® processes.

Sealing: In all the anodizing process, the proper sealing of the porous oxide coating is absolutely essential to the satisfactory performance of the coating. The pores must be rendered nonabsorbent to provide maximum resistance to corrosion and stains. This is accomplished through a hydrothermal treatment in proprietary chemical baths or by capping the pores via the precipitation of metal salts in the pore openings.

My buddy has multiple colors on his paintball gun. But it is a half and half color and a fade in the middle, so it looks like they just dipped one side then flipped it and redid it to the other side with a different color...

Wonder what tape they would use to seal the part since it is a chemical process? Any idea Dave?

Let's give it through the weekend to see if the first two people come through with payment. Regardless, I will be making more in the next few months and can get you a set then at the latest. Hi! Thanks! Let me know if you want a spooled or standard set for your XB. I charge $90.

I would love to get together in the Spring although it doesn't seem like it will come fast enough:( (hating this weather) There does seem to be an increase in Buell ownership in W. PA lately! [up]

The k doesn't belong to me unfortunately. It belongs to my friend who also has the 2010 CR that you see in the pics. It's a pretty cool bike. I think it's an 04 but I'm not positive. He has his all blacked out and has an Akrapovic CF pipe on it. It's pretty sweet!

yeah, we'll have to get together for sure. I don't know a lot of roads in your area but I know some great ones around here if you are ever in the area. Dumb question but whats the diff. between the spooled and standard? if you ever get a chance to ride the K do it! =) Hope spring comes sooner than usual this year.. gooo global warming! Standard:

Spooled:

Spooled rears allow you to lift the bike from the sliders if you have a stand that is equipped to do so. It's really personal preference depending on if you want to lift your bike in that manner. Let me know what you think.

Sweet! Enjoy! I'll be here when you're ready.

To all: In general, what I'm doing is using what you guys say you want to determine what configurations I stock. There's no obligation at this point. If you let me know what you're interested in, I will make sure to have enough parts to cover your needs and then stock accordingly.

A few of you have asked for the "natural" finish. I will accommodate those that contact me before I put my order in and treat them as "special orders" but don't have any intentions to set any aside that way that are not spoken for so if "natural" is what you want please let me know in advance and I'll be sure to accommodate. I hope to place my order with the machine shop in the next few weeks after I test fit the spooled rears and make any changes needed.

Thanks for all your support!! As always, I'm excited to make these for you and look forward to seeing them on your bikes and getting your feedback!

No it doesn't determine when but I base how many I have made on how many people say they're interested so I can try to eliminate having to sit on product for too long. My goal is to place my order with my machinist this coming week then there will be a 3-4 week lead time from then. I have no problem with early payment. Paypal to 50Dro Email (50dro.info@gmail.com). Please be sure to include your BuellXB name with your payment so that I can connect your email address to your real name and BuellXB name.

No sorry. I just have the axle sliders at this time but am considering expanding my offering to other stuff in the future.

No prob on the questions...I'd rather you asked now than be surprised (and possibly disappointed) when you get them. ;)

The 1125 sliders are not spooled since the 1125 swing arms have spools on them already. I am offering both spooled and standard sliders for the XB though.

Are the right and left sides different sizes so they fit snug inside the axle on each side? Also, is the "natural" finish going to be anodized or raw? I'm thinking a black set for the rear and the natural look for the front would blend in best on the bike.

Yes they are size differently for that reason. The natural will be raw. I run black on the rear and natural on the front on mine. Looks good that way. I can do that for you but I need to know today before I make my order final with the machine shop. Please also specify XB(spoiled or std) or 1125. Thanks!

I'm shooting for mid-March or sooner. Mine have stayed nice although I rarely get caught in the rain and keep my bike fairly clean. Keep a good polish around (I use Wicked Metal Polish) and keep after them from time to time and you'd probably be fine. It's like anything else...If you neglect them, they will definitely dull up in time. Let me know what you decide. Thanks!

To those of you that I've sold the natural finish to, please feel free to chime in on this.

Well I guess I'm in for a black 1125 set... I bought a set from dark horse moto a while back and At a bike night this past Monday I realized the rear sliders were gone!!![mad][mad][mad]

I'm sure it wasn't pretty for whom ever that foot long piece of all thread came after. Can hardly believe it as they used lock nuts and were lock tighted on. Fronts are still secure but I like the idea of the no external hard ware

How do you secure them to the bike?? Just hand tight or do you wrench them down with something?

Wow!! That sucks! Do you think they fell out during riding or someone stole them? I've only had one person lose one but he had admitted that his rear wheel had been service just before he lost them. Perhaps the person that serviced his bike only hand tightened them or didn't use the thread-locker? Was yours serviced recently?

At any rate, I'd be glad to sell you a set when they're in. Thanks! Mine use thread-locker and have a spanner-wrench type hole in them that you can torque them down from with a screwdriver, allen wrench etc.

I'll be in touch when they're ready.

Just placed my order with the machine shop. I'll be stocking mostly black anodized versions of XB, XB with Spooled Rear, & 1125. I ordered a few of the natural finish as well but not many.

The date that I was told that I would receive them is March 22 but I'm trying to get them to do a bit better. I can turn them around and have them shipped in a day or 2 from when I get them. The natural finish may be a few days sooner but then I'll need to polish them.

Let me know if you're interested!

Hey dro, my set on my previous Buell used a large o-ring at the base of the slider. Sort of butted up against the axle and slider flange. I believe the o-ring provided some grip to help keep the slider from vibrating loose with the locktite and torqued.

Yeah. I would imagine low strength would work ok as well but I opted for the medium strength for a bit more reassurance. I include it with my sliders. That being said DO NOT USE HIGH STRENGTH THREADLOCKER unless you never plan to change you tires again. :D. Thanks for the insight.

cool that you include it, I'll just use that then when they come in. Just tossing the o-ring thing out for others. I intend to put o-rings on my 50dro's when they come in. IIRC they where like .44 a o-ring. Gives me a little more piece of mind and keeps gunk out of the axle.

It is is possible, I would like to cancel my order. The only reason I was ordering them was to use the rear spools with a work stand, but I just hooked up with a nice deal on a HF table lift, so I won't be going that route. If you have already ordered them and I am bound to them, I will hold up my end of the bargain and buy them. If you can cancel them though or sell them to someone else, please do so. Thanks.

50dro do you know the slot spacing on the rear for a xb?

I wondering if my rear spool stand will open far enough...

Add about 1/4" to the swing arm width. That should be the minimum width needed. It should be somewhere around 14-5/8" or so. Thanks!

So the next set is due in a few weeks? Is there a closer date? Have a track day April 2nd and was hoping for tumor. Foray understand getting everything set up and not complaining was just hoping for a date. Thanks

50dro
03-02-2011, 01:32 PM
I should have them in hand from the machine shop by the week of 3/21 (perhaps sooner if you were interested in the natural finish). April 2nd should be no problem but I can't guarantee it as setbacks do happen. I will push to have them by the date that I have been promised from my machine shop and can turn them around shortly after. Are you in the states? Ground shipping is included but if you need them shipped more quickly we can work something out. Let me know...Thanks!

Yes in the states. Michigan to be exact. I'm interested in a black set for xb. I'd be down for slotted rear. I do apologize if I came or strong or demanding. Also I definitely understand how things can come up and no hard feelings if something did happen. Amazing product.

No...you didn't come off that way. No problem at all.

I'll put you down for a black slotted XB set. Keep an eye on this thread for updates and feel free to touch base with me in the meantime if you have questions. I'll be in touch for payment when they're ready.

50dro do you know the slot spacing on the rear for a xb?

I wondering if my rear spool stand will open far enough...

I ran into this problem with my rear stand not even wanting to fit the width of the XB swingarm. I used the small jack out of our car and just stretched it about 1" wider. Plenty of space now.

Hey 50Dro u will send us payment info? Don't want to miss this round need them bad.

Your set is reserved. No worries there.

Payment info is in the first post of this thread. Paypal to 50dro.info@gmail.com although I haven't asked anyone to pay until I am near ready to ship. If anyone feels more comfortable paying early that's certainly no problem but it's not required. Please make sure you include your BuellXB name with your Paypal payment so I can connect your email to your BuellXB name.

Thanks!

Clarification...That was a request I made in order to get the sliders to you as soon as they're ready. I will be stocking these moving forward. Once the web site is up I will be selling them primarily through there.

The reserved orders take priority but unless you have made prior arrangements with me, I will have no choice but to release the products from reservation to my general stock by March 25. I'd much rather sell them to you as agreed.;)

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Probably less than a week. I'm near Pittsburgh so my guess is about 3 days. I'll need a day or 2 to assemble. I'd say you should see them by the end of the month. We should be OK but if you're concerned we can do an overnight shipment at your cost if you chose to.

There's A LOT of pages to read through here, so sorry if this has all been answered.

1) the natural finish- are you clear anodizing them to keep them from corroding? If not, how much more would you charge to do so?
2) how thick are the front ones? I want thinner than the pics I see on page 1, I have
these (http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/A9158.html) on my Uly and the thickness is perfect- good protection and good looks.
3) I saw lots of requests for slotted rears for use with spools- are you selling these yet?
4) assuming you have thinner fronts and slotted rears clear anodized...how much $$?

50dro
03-18-2011, 12:00 PM
No problem. Thanks for your interest. See below:

1) No they are not anodized. Most people that want these want more of a polished look and clear anodizing dulls the finish so I've decided not to offer them anodized. I'm not really in the position to do one-offs on this as I would have to pay minimum lot charges of more than $50 (which I assume would be cost prohibitive for most people). You may be better off clear coating them or having them clear anodized yourself.

2) Depends on the pic your referring to. The XB models are roughly .75" and the 1125 rear sets are deeper to account for the contour of the swingarm. As stated in #1, I'm not in the position to offer one-offs at this price so I'm sorry, I can't make them thinner for you.

3) Yes. I now offer slotted rear sets for the XB.

4) All configurations that I currently sell are $90 shipped to the continental US. As stated before, the natural finish is not anodized at this price.

I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks!

Is the $90 number for both front and rear?

50dro
03-18-2011, 04:00 PM
That is for an XB but slotted. Check the first page of this thread for pics of the others. The first 5 pics and the 7th pic show the standard XB design.

Yes...$90 is for front & rear shipped to the continental US.
