Factory stuff, yes it will fit urs. Designed to be used with the Air Box cover with intake in the front by the gas filler. Which I think is 06+

I cut up the one for my 03. It was recommended by Randy when I picked up my Hawk pipe. If you don't want to cut yours you can always just go pick up a newer one.

On an 03 is it even worth cutting up the airbox with the big intake through the frame?

He said so, so I trusted him

I'm thinking about doing this mod and was wondering if it made a difference on an 03 bolt?

He was referring to the different airbox and airbox covers on the newer bikes. Your bike gets air into the airbox through a big hole in the frame that feeds up through that airscoop on the left side of your bike. Mine is the same way. The newer bikes do not have that hole in their frame, and instead have a vent cutout in the airbox cover that's right behind the gas cap. The actual airbox then has a bunch of holes in it like the one you posted. The air gets sucked in through that vent by the gas cap, as well as along the bottom edge of the airbox cover, goes through the holes in airbox. There is still some airflow that can get to an airbox without that cut out by the gas cap, so even with the old style airbox cover there's still a little bit of benefit to cutting holes in the airbox to take advantage of the rest of the air that could get in. this is one of the newer airboxes, you can see the vent I was talking about.

I would say anywhere. Since many do the airbox delete which removes everything but the top cutting anything would be just fine.

Dave did you just run two bolts to hold the top down like the kits?

Question - if you have the old frame style with the hole, wouldnt it make more sence to get the vented airbox cover if your going to cut holes into the airbox?

Xtreme- I drilled 2 holes to line up with the hole wholes on the buttom, basically just like the delete kit

iman- The newer vented airbox covers are definitely better for airflow

dave-i noticed some people say that the bike will run lean after doing this mod.....what do yo think? I want to do it and it is easy enough but i don't want to start messing with the ecm or doing a tps reset
