New to this forum, have tried this same question other places but I have not gotten an answer to my question. Does anyone know what rate the rear shock spring is on an 09 XB12Xt?

Buell has a rate of 500lbs/in on the S/R shock with 120mm of travel, and the X has a slightly higher travel at 125mm to the shock but it is the same length so I would imagine it would be just slightly softer.

I thought the ulys were a progressive spring?

I am not positive to whether the X and Ss spring look the same minus color but here is a R/S shock next to a Ss shock, seems like the Uly would be the same as the Ss just different valving.

Does anyone else think that the Uly XT rear shock is a bit harsh or stiff? Set up at softest setting and still takes quite a bit to compress it. Only with a lot of weight on board will it compress.

Your Ully has a shock preload adjustment. If i take all the preload out of mine it has two inches of sag with my weight.

Preload all the way back and it's still stiff. If I load the bike up big time, it gets a bit softer but only then. I'm used to it now though and it corners well enough. Maybe it's just me??

Rear shock looks like a progressive and the forks reportedly are triple progressive. At 215# and with Buell's recommended preload setting (6 turns, if I recall correctly), I think the ride is just perfect. Soft without pogoing. Nice thing about this bike is if you don't like the susension settings, play with them a little bit and see if you find something that works better for you.
