I would like to have a thread here just dedicated the future and the news about the racing team and races and wins of Erik Buell Racing team for any of the 1125RR or the 1190RR, or any future EBR race bikes.
so post any and all news you find on it here.

IDK about the 1190. Was talking to Erik via facebook, mentioned I was looking forward to seeing the 1190 at Miller end of May. He didn't sound like it would for sure make it. His words, "it would be tight to make it to Miller" :(

Another team to keep an eye on at Infineon will be Amsoil EBR. A best-finish of twelfth fell far short of what it takes to make Erik Buell Racing pilot Geoff May happy, and having spent the down-time hard at work, the team will be ready to show at Round 2.

Erik Buell: via facebook,

Geoff and the team pulled off an 8th place yesterday with the old 1125RR. Running very lean - no engineering support at the track because everyone's at the facility building 1190RS bikes. We are very proud of the guys! When they get the 1190, they'll do better. Don't expect the 1190 to be immediately at the front, because the competition is tough, and we have to learn how to set up the new bike.

Erik Buell Racing
Hard work in Sunday's race. Geoff spun the tire on the rim on the restart, which threw it out of balance. That made the bike bounce around and hurt traction out of the corners. So he had quite an exhausting ride! We need to make sure Dunlop mounts the tires dry, no lubricant, because the bike has a lot of torque and a lot of grip. He did well to finish 12th!

By: Erik Buell Racing

This past weekend (May 14-15) the AMSOIL EBR Racing team competed at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California for race 2 of the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Series. Geoff May and the AMSOIL EBR Racing team performed exceptionally well, placing 8th in Saturday’s event and 12th on Sunday’s.

more news from EBR...

Erik Buell Racing
Unfortunately we will not be bringing the EBR 1190RS bikes to Miller. Too little time to get them ready, tested, and hauled out there. So the team will run the Buell 1125RR's. Our focus has been 99.9% on 1190RS street bike production and we simply weren't able to do both. Maybe Road America, but not likely, as it is only one week later. We should be good for Barber, definitely for Mid-Ohio.

Whew, so much to do it's hard to get updates done. Our apologies. In any case, Geoff put in a couple really great rides this weekend. The old 1125 is so far down on speed it's ridiculous at a track like Road America. 18mph down on Tommy Hayden! But Geoff rode the wheels off it, and split the two Kawasakis on Saturday for a tenth.

Erik Buell Racing
On Sunday we tried a few changes that didn't work, and a gearing change wound up putting the bike at the rev limiter repeatedly. Almost made it anyway, and ran right behind the Kawasaki, but broke on the last lap. Our first DNF and hopefully the last. But wound up with some points anyhow, and are in tenth in the championship.

‎11th and 10th first time out. Bike was very solid and reliable, but we waaay underestimated the difficulty of set up with the extra 25 lbs of weight strapped on. Today with all that weight and some chassis changes we made trying to compensate for it (which included running a soft rear tire), we destroyed the tire mid race, and Geoff had to slow way down. We'll try to get some more testing before Laguna.

At MotoGP I spoke to erik for a while as well as the team (pulled out all the different weights they have had to use and showed where the current weight is sitting)

Erik says they still have a race cam that they haven't run yet. Will give about 900 rpms more.

Not sure why they haven't maxed out that engine yet.

Sure, it's good to say, "look, we ran the bike showroom stock other than exhaust and ECU and came in 10th consistantly"

But, I think being a front runner would give more attention to the team.

Also, from going to many of the races this year, Geoff could out ride me blindfolded and sitting backwards... But, I'm starting to question some of his racing lines.

The "fast" guys are taking different lines than him. The 1125rr and the 1090 can go waay deeper and tighter into the corners than other bikes, but hugging the curb isn't necisarily the fastest way around the track.

I want this team to podium so badly. It hurts to watch them struggle.

To be fair, they really dont have any money. The front running Yamaha's are $100k bikes with MASSIVE factory support.

The 1190 is a bike that cost probably 20k to build. So it's doing well in that respect.

I noticed that they CANT datalog engine info after Geoff makes a run. Which is really a necessity racing these days. Also, their fuel maps are the same ones we see using ECMSPY.

Others on here have knocked the tuning WE get when buy an EBR computer for our bikes. How the tune isn't particularly good. The same young guy is there at the bigger races trying to adjust the maps.

Things I think they NEED in order to be a consistant front runner.

Install those race cams finally.
Find a little more compression (if they can afford a new piston design)

LOTS of dyno time with said cams and higher compression to find what the limits of the engine are.

-possibly someone better with fuel/timing maps

***the 72 degree V might be too tight of an angle to get good head flow from having too many tight bends in the intake manifold***

Yea, small team with small budget versus big teams with big budgets and a lot of factory support. So much more R&D from the big guys, testing on and off the track. I hope EBR can do better since I'm sure the bike is top notch.

ct1200
07-27-2011, 10:39 AM
Nobody gets a podium out of the gate, I don't care what kind of factory support you've got.
There are so many things that come into play every week, and without any notes on what the bike did last time at said track they are starting from scratch.

You try this suspension setup or that tweak, one thing at a time and see what happens, better or worse?
Let alone possible tire supply issues, and they can't just run down to the nearest tire shop and get a new one.
Pros get what they are given from the "approved" tire suppler at the track.
Let alone again, weather... temp, humidity, what was the weather like the past day, is the track clean or rubbered up, who ran yesterday

If all your looking for is podium finishes I'd suggest not watching for a yr or 2.
Keep in mind this is the 3rd yr that the 1125 has been raced, so even that is just baby steps in a racing career.

They are doing great for a bike w/ zero history behind it.

-Geoff needs to not keep going back to georgia between races and stay in wisconsin with them to get more track time.

But, there are some "simple" things they need to work on to be better that would make a huge change and quickly.

When you are getting WALKED on by a duc 999 down the straights, you have one problem, and thats a lack of HP.

I usually catch the races on replays on speed around midnight or slightly after on the day of the race. So Sundays Race is usually replayed Sunday into Monday on the east coast(NYC).

I hear the points about the refining process and gradually getting better. I think in a way we're all kind of impatient... feeling like we've waited forever for Erik to scratch his way to the top and flip those HD b@stards the finger. At the same time I can't say I wasn't a little jealous when KTM got 7th... with a twin.... and a bike that's retailing for 25,000 less...

Good find! One more step to Buell coming back.

The bike is simply great, but they also need to make some money to keep this whole operation going. Maybe they should start considering mass production again of bikes priced under $15k, and hire some profesionals to sort out electronics (don't like them when riding, but can win races these days) and an Italian to sort out styling :D (I know I'm being a heretic, and I absolutely LOVE the styling of my XB, but that can be a strong selling point).

They are producing 100 of their 2012 1190's. They are $40,000, but they say they will in the future release more models that are at a lower price range. Sort of a great idea, build an awesome bike, then work backwards to mass production...the bike you get for $40,000 is damn near the same bike they are racing...

No. Maybe six only on the race team. He has numerous office people, builders and designers, etc.

+1000000

Probably one of the most annoying "comments" made toward buells is the, "they had to race in the 600 class" comment.

I'm super excited for the Miller race (as it also is a WSBK race). The track is much faster than Infineon though, so keeping up momentum out of the corners is going to be key.

Jezuz
05-09-2012, 09:31 AM
Actually, Buell raced a 1125R on the 2009 AMA Daytona SportBike Championship against 600cc Inline4 bikes, like the R6, GSXR600 etc.
It made about the same amount of hp, more torque etc. People like European magazine test riders (neutral) that rode both, said that the Buell had an X amount of advantages over the I4s, but also X amount of disadvantages, thus making it a fair to race side by side in their opinion.

Buell also released a race-specific 1125RR version (notice the second R) in 2009, to compete in the AMA Superbike series, against the likes of GSXR1000, R1 etc.

moshaholic2
05-09-2012, 01:39 PM
True, they did race in the daytona class with an additional weight penalty added on. Kind of like the 1190 last season until AMA modernized their rules for thos season.

gotboost2jz

They also raced an 1125 at a couple other events (Mid Ohio being one) against 600's. I wasn't aware the RR was made for superbike.
This is good to hear. It frustrated me watching buell race in the 600 class and all the 600 fans whinning about it saying they couldn't compete elsewhere.

Onelogue thanks for the post, I missed it thanks to work. And on the conversation about the 1125r danny eslick raced it to the dsb championship win in 2010. Same year there was also a team running an aprillia rsv4 im the same class. That year an rsv4 won the wsbk championship. It was one of the first years of the dmg managed ama and their new classes so some kinks to work out. First race may did in superbike he was on a bike identical to danny's and got 8th I believe. That gave danny's championship a bit of a black eye but a repeate on a gsxr cleared that up. But luckily thats in the past we got a badass bike not fully developed getting podiums with both riders and the addition of some of project one atlantas mechanics means that development will go faster.

That was a fun race. The little battle between May and Bostrom was nice and the ending between Herrin and Young was intense! They made contact, Herrin lost ground, and still came back to pass for the 2nd place finish. Great last few laps in that race

Too bad Eslick got such a bad start :/

Actually on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE4l76h2DTM they say that they'd like TCS for next year, because it'll make their life easier 'cause they'll have to work less, even though it'll probably not make them faster.
Great results though, and no TCS means that both rider and bike get extra compliments for tallent and setup respectively, and for hard work as well.

So apparently page 12 in the August RW has a short article on EBR's interest in WSB, the 1190RX, and plans for 2013...

That would be awesome.

Thought I'd share some Road America Pics. Sorry too many distractions and my digital camera sucks at taking pictures when the objects are moving @ 180mph!

The bike will cost you $50K, the umbrella girl I can't say for sure but $50K would help, of that I'm sure.....;)http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628200230_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202147_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202009_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202324_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202443_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202553_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202713_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202946_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5764_20120628202827_L.jpg

Danny got another podium this weekend. Officially finished 3rd. But crossed the line in 2nd - he was asessed a 5sec penatly for crossing over a line they had marked on the track at the exit of a corner.

Geoff was in a strong 4th position and had a mechanical. I think he broke his shifter.

Eslick Climbs The Podium in Miami

The 2012 AMA American Superbike series is heading towards completion with just one weekend of racing remaining on the schedule. Entering last weekend, the AMSOIL/HERO/EBR team of Geoff May and Danny Eslick had notched a combined two podiums, but also a dozen top ten finishes on the year. With two races scheduled at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Team AMSOIL duo picked up the pace of their EBR 1190RS' a notch.

Eslick has had an up-and-down rookie year in American Superbike, but the Oklahoman showed speed and poise in Miami. In a remarkable battle for second with Blake Young, Eslick traded spots countless times with one of the sports best riders. In the end, Eslick's aggressive tactics won out over Young, edging ahead at the checkered flag by 0.089 seconds.

"There was one lap where we probably went back and forth five, six, or seven times," Eslick said of the dogfight. "It was a good race. It was clean, and it was just good, hard racing. Me and Blake have raced each other for a lot of years and raced each other hard. There's no love lost while we were out there; we were definitely going for it out there. It was pretty awesome."

As Eslick and Young battled for second, May climbed back into podium contention. When checkered flag came out, the Georgian finished in fourth, just 0.252 seconds behind Young in fourth.

I'm a little slow so somebody fill me in. Is Danny not riding for EBR this year? No shirts with him at EBR Racewear and no mention of him this weekend at testing at Homestead.
Just curious, thought he was an asset to the team, can't believe he is not back for 2013.

Geoff was at the CCS Races here in Miami this weekend. Danny was a no-show but they had Cory West riding one of the other 1190's (they pit crew would not confirm if Cory would be riding for EBR next year but when interviewed, he eluded to the possibility). They both dominated in all their races. Actually had Geoff lap me in one of the races (going into T8 at HMS). Really humbling but cool to see him from behind backing it into the corner.

Tired now but have a pic with him I'll post up later.

Blake Young after being slain by EBR as seen on this video

qetWxMAHVqU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qetWxMAHVqU

and being laid off by yoshi suzuki, tried to get a ride on an EBR, but that probably won't happen according to this post:

http://www.cyclenews.com/articles/road-racing/2013/01/10/blake-young-and-the-ebr/

but according to this, they are already teamates?! Anyone knows?

I am definitely stoked on Yates being on EBR. Especially after seeing how well he did at indy on the crt machine. He disapeared from ama after his leg injury a few years ago but obviously did not stop racing cuz he is still fast. Hopefully some wins are coming this year!

Did anyone see the Daytona 200? Geoff May (no longer with EBR) finished on the podium with a strong 3rd, Danny Eslick took first place again. Maybe its just me, but I really have never liked Danny Eslick.

I watched it. My name is on Geoff's bike as one of the private sponsors.

Geoff would have been in the winner's battle if not for his fuel cap issue coming out of his last pit.

Very exciting race to watch.

Danny, while a very skilled rider, has always seemed cocky.

Nice, it was a shame about the fuel cap, but he did make it which was awesome! I wish EBR had of given him a bike or something as a "going away present".
