I'd like to do as much maintenance as possible on my bike, wondering if anyone has adjusted their primary chain and what's involved? Anyone that can provide a step by step instruction?
I'm riding an 03' xb9s with 48000 kms on it. Probably about time to do some maintenance, ya think? bought it with 39k and have no idea what's been done before i got my hands on it. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!! it does the surging thing at low rpms while cruising, and from what i've gathered on this site and in the manual it's possibly from the primary chain being a little slack?

cruise- in town around 60 kms very light throttle..just feels like a bike with a loose chain to me. maybe 3k rpm. completely gone if i'm on the throttle.

does this happen when you are ridin and you have the throttle set in one position?

if you want to do your maintenance yourself, you should invest in a service manual...it's a must have!

from what you're telling it is indeed the primairy that needs adjusting.

note: this page will be removed tomorrow. i strongly suggest you get a service manual. it's well worth it's money

Thanks for your time, very appreciated. The above shows how to check the adjustment, but obviously i should invest in a manual to acually adjust it.
And yes it's when I hold it at an exact throttle opening and leave it there, almost feels like miss/surge. Runs perfecly otherwise.

mine does that also its not a stronge surge but you can feel it. say 2200-3000 and steady throttle after that it goes away. I didnt seem to do it the 1st 300-400 miles now i got 850 on the bike and i can feel it. i figured it was normal on the 1st 1000 due to stretching.
