View Full Version : SPAM....

03-20-2011, 11:53 PM
Lately there has been a huge wave of SPAM posts. I am sure Dave and Steven have deleted a few, I know I have deleted close to 30 now.

If you find one don't post to it just let it fall off the radar, or send a quick link to myself if you want and I will delete it, assuming it isn't in a section I am unable to edit.

Thank X

03-21-2011, 09:23 AM
Problem is when they're posted in a thread we don't have Mod rights' to.

03-21-2011, 01:05 PM
With ya, but I think the areas are new sections and it has something to do with the programing to the site.

03-29-2011, 05:34 AM
are there any steps being taken to prevent this, other than adding more mods to delete the spam?

03-29-2011, 05:45 AM
Doubtful. Im not sure why either. Its not that difficult to resolve this issue..

03-29-2011, 08:45 AM
[up] to the mods for deleting all that crap this morning!

03-29-2011, 08:57 AM
Nothing quite like rolling out of bed, and getting on the spam hunt...

Last night was brutal too. I think I spent about 20 minutes hunting down each and every spam post I could find.

03-29-2011, 09:28 AM
Its all cause and effect. The spam will stop when the bots are not able to register any more.

Captcha, how does it work?

But, we all appreciate yalls effort to delete and stay on top of the spam while a fix is being worked on. (I hope)

04-04-2011, 05:26 AM
is anyone going to look at this thread and tell us if there is a plan to stop the spam or no.

if we ignore this thread long enough everyone will forget there is actually a way to stop spam.

look at the forum today, clearly something needs to change in the registration process.

04-04-2011, 05:31 AM
I agree Kona. I do appreciate the work the mods are doing to get ride of the spam posts.

04-04-2011, 05:36 AM
Man there is like 20 spam threads on the front page... Something needs to be done soon. Ban the current spamers, employ the captcha thing, whatever - it drives me crazy...

BTW thanks mods for trying to keep up killing spam [up]

04-04-2011, 05:47 AM
Holy f'in SPAM Batman, the spammers dropped a SPAM NUKE on us!

04-04-2011, 07:09 AM
Isn't there a way we can have a validation code like those word quizzes you have to input before a new post is made?

I wouldn't mind filling that in if it stops the spam.

04-04-2011, 07:32 AM
sidefx. that's what we are talking about only put it in the registration process so we don't have to type it in every time.

maybe "they" don't mind the extra hits from all the spam to boost ad sales.

04-04-2011, 07:43 AM
it seems like it keeps getting worse and worse every night...

04-04-2011, 07:44 AM
and why hasen't nikeshoes001 been banned yet?

04-04-2011, 07:48 AM
WTF nikeshoes001 SPAMED the hell out of the board!

04-04-2011, 07:54 AM
[mad] - Yeah, just deleted 17 threads that piece of crap posted up. I'll PM Jeremy the IP address.

04-04-2011, 08:01 AM
Thanks for cleaning up the garbage on the board[up]

05-08-2011, 09:07 AM
I just want you all to know that I'm not ignoring the spam issue. We added a couple new mods months ago to help us keep up our manual efforts. I've personally been banning users and IP addresses in addition to deleting spam if I happen to catch it before our awesome mod team.

Captcha is old technology that doesn't really stop much. Popular forum spam software like Xrumer can easily work around some of the most advanced captchas, automatically create fake email addresses and validate those emails. It's really insane. Also, real humans that want to spam our forum will always be able to do so regardless of the actions I take.

I do have a developer working on a custom solution that will hopefully slow down the spam. Keep in mind that all popular forums experience spam. It comes with the territory.

Thank you all for your patience.

Thanks for your diligence [up]

05-08-2011, 10:36 AM
Yes, thank you indeed[up]

07-04-2013, 07:48 AM
Bump, just so you guys know to pm a moderator so these types can be removed. If we for some reason miss it, send us a link, but don't bother posting in the thread, it will be deleted asap.

Thanks Dean [up]

Just to throw out a genuine compliment... The mods here do a really great job at keeping this place clear of spam... I've only seen a few spammers manage to make any headway at all since I've been on here... The other two forums I'm on are ATE UP with that crap... So seriously, good job keeping this place straight...

07-04-2013, 11:00 AM
since I've been on here

last year was epic for spammers, each day you'd log in to see **** for golf clubs, running shoes, designer ****..tons of crap!
Jeremy (BuellXB) did his best with the mods help to clean it up and it's been great since then, seems like they've found a way to worm themselves into our corner of the interwebs again.

07-04-2013, 11:06 AM
Lol i still say this particular forum is very very clean of spam comparatively... =)... Too bad I wasn't on here to annoy people last year and make fun of the spam with everybody...
