Hi folks, just bought a 2000 X1. Love the bike. The rear brake seems a lot weaker than my old Honda (also as compared to the front brakes)and was wondering if this is normal. I generally use the rear brake to slow down before a light (20-30 mph range) and I need to really press down on the pedal to come to a full stop.
May be it is designed like this to prevent lock-up.
Thanks in advance for your input.

can you take a look at the pads?

I noticed this on my 2003 xb9s when I first got it, some more aggressive pads straightened it out for me. if your brake fluid is original you might consider replacing and bleeding the system as well.

What do you mean by "more aggressive" pads,e.g., type, brand ?
I will go ahead and bleed the system to see what happens since the pads seem OK at the moment.
Thanks for the replies.

nope, most likely the brake master cylinder needs rebuilding........only parts you need are about 20 bucks. The "kit" they sell is about $60....dont know why.....

Sorry for the late post,
The rear brake is purposely weak, strong enough to setup for a turn but not lock up, unless you are in real trouble. as for more aggressive pads, the EBC HH series Have more initial Bite, and would last longer than the originals also.
