Can all 08' model Buellers please post your average MPG's? I was averaging high 30's before 1000 mile service now I have 2000 miles on the bike and I just got 30 MPG's on this tank of gas [confused]
It has been on a slow decline. I was hoping it would have been going the other direction. Any thoughts???

- higher temperature, more evaporates?
- you're having more fun with the throttle?

Many people don't realize how huge the difference in mpg is when keeping the engine at high rpm / playing with the throttle a lot and driving at low rpm.

To put this into perspective, if I drive my car on 6th gear on normal street - highway speed, one gas tank would add up just above 800 km. Drive my car like I'm in a race and a full tank probably wouldn't get me past 200km.

Buell's have a crap load of low end and midrange torque, so keep the rpm in that range and you'll get pretty good mileage.

But this only applies if its because of you're driving :p.

I don’t have an 08 but I do have a left over 06 that I just went through breaking in. I would say it started out in the 30 MPG range but after it got broke in it got better. Also I do a lot of highway driving and average right around 60 MPG almost every tank. And I’ve gotten as good as 68 MPG once when I did a lot of 55-60 MPH cruising. Like someone else said it definitely has a lot to do with the driving style.

I have an 08 xb12ss and here are my numbers. Bare with me I am canadian so i use litres. I have 850 kilometers on the bike. No highway driving whatsoever. The bike has never seen 5th gear yet. I drive on roads with no higher then a 80km/h speed limit. 2ns and 3rd gear i used the most and rpms are running around 3000-5000. Last night my gas light came on at 206kms. I drove to the gas station and there was 221kms on the bike. I filled it up with supreme gas and it held 14 liters. I think the bike has a 18 liter tank so that still leaves me with roughly a gallon of gas. I find the bike getting better with every ride.

When I first bought my '05 XB12S I just came off a 2000 Honda CBR 600 F4 and I was use to higher RPM. I was constantly riding around town at roughly 3500 RPM with the Buell when I first got it. I've forced myself to keep it around 2000 - 2500 RPM. The MPG is way better now and I love the exhaust note when you gun it from 2000 RPM.

Thanks for the input guys. I am a pretty conservative rider most of the time, I only stay on one wheel on the way home from work :D For the next few weeks I am gonna pay close attention to all of the variables here (weather, gas type, ride style, etc...) and let everyone know what happens.

My 08 does 35 mpg (UK size gallons)

Less than 1000 miles, already fitted 07 model headers, HP Big Oval, K&N, air box breather mod and Zero Gravity screen

Best bike I have ever owned, but my 3L diesel Grand Cherokee gets the same MPG

I have 07' XB9SX just over 2000 miles on it, the least MPG I have gotten so far was 45, that was the first week I had it. I get 47MPG on average, that is stop-an-go traffic.

PS - I drive like a bandit!!!!

I ride by bike pretty hard and I am hitting about 125 miles between fill ups. I usually put in about 2.5 gallons of gas so I am getting close to 50mpg. Probably about 45 and I am always on the throttle and hanging the front end up. I always cruise at about 3000rpm when I am not on the throttle.

With my 08 XT I'm getting about 40mpg. I have just about 2,500 miles. I'm a bit disappointed since a majority of my riding is freeway (70mph) so I believe it should be higher - at least based upon the specs. My previous bike (2006 FJR) I would get 45mpg or better under the same conditions. Oh well. I still like the Buell better. :D

'06 XB12S, Get 42 - 50mpg, mostly highway miles. Depends on how I ride home.....twisties or highway. ;)

Hi, i've got a 2006 xb12x and average milage in 50's have got over 65mpg when touring last year fully loaded, with so much torque available low down there is no need to rev the bollox off the motor, its not a japanese 4 cylinder.

before the winter i was getting around 45 mpg, mostly freeway, but i was on it constantly. even back on the twistys shifting a ton it did fairly well. i don't think i've ever gotten below 40 even during the break-in period

2006 XB9SX with about 5k miles. I have put two tanks of gas in it since I got it last week. First was all around town, but riding fairly easy getting used to the bike -45 mpg. The second tank top-off was this morning after a fairly spirited 120 mile ride on some local backroads (70-75 mph average speed)- again 45 mpg. This was all 2700-4500 feet altitude. I was surprized when the fuel light came on as I expected much better range. But after reading over a few posts on the forum I guess that is about average. [sad] Where does the Buell website get off claiming 50/65 mpg? [confused]

I'm sorry, but I have an 06 XB12Ss, the mileage I get averages 40 to 50, one of the reasons that I bought the thing was hoping to get the kind of miles they claim. I have over 10,000 miles on the thing and still am not getting better mileage. With the information given here, doesn't that fall under the realm of false advertisement. These people are giving real world numbers. [mad] I love the way the bike handles, but unless we get a new dealer here that can do real work on these bikes, I won't buy another Buell. The factory went to another source for the engines, maybe they should seek a better source for sales and service. Plenty of dealers out there would consider it.

I got 100 miles on 1.88 gallons heading to St George UT on highway 70, which is 55 mpg fully loaded and I mean fully loaded. Next best I got 140 miles on 2.4 gallons at 58mpg,on my XB12XT Ulysses and that time I was following the hungover traffic west from Las Vegas to Barstow.

Ulyscol how far is you normal distance travelled? if your only going around 15 mile(??km) your not going far enough to get a good mpg. you'll only get 110 mile on a tank, like me. if i got a long distance i get....got 65 to 70 mpg. i just change pipes and air filter so i dont know what long distance is averaging. same miles( w/ alot of playing around) before w/ new stuff.null

'06 XB12X with 3,800 miles. Commuting thru country at 60-70 mph for the last month I get 48 mpg every time. Got 46 once when I went for a 30 mile ride with my wife on the back. I'm in Missouri at elevation 800' or so if that matters. I'd like to have some 60+ mpg tanks... maybe this will come with more time on the engine?

I have an 06 Ulysses (12X), in town around Vancouver BC, I usually get about 42-45mpg, finally did a road trip this summer and on the prairies, I was getting 4L/100km (measured between fill ups) or about 65mpg. But that's when i kept it at 100km/hr. at 140km/hr i got 6L/100km. Anything above a 100km/hr and the gas mileage go way down.

My mileage is extremly dependent on me and how i ride the bike as i am sure yours is i have seen low 60s on the highway before cruise but i have also seen mid to low 20s on one tank before too at a track day so just watch the rpms and the throttle if you want better mpgs

All you 06-07 owners are wasting your breath. You can't compare DDFI II to DDFI III. The first gen, if you will, Uly's get great mileage, but it seems to have gone down with the new fueling. I am only averaging 6.5 liters per 100 km's. I will have mpg figures in 20 days when I get back to the states and ride it there. It only has 2500 miles on it right now. Not going to worry until the mpg doesn't go up by about 5k miles. My Triumph Sprint ST 1050 burned a ton of oil and got bad fuel mileage its first 2k or so miles. After that hasn't burned a drop and averages 50mpg at 90mph.

I have had my 03 XB9R since May of 07. Never gotten less than 45 MPG just riding in town to and from work. Even when I beat it like it owes me money.

On tanks when I do more highway riding and cruise between 65-80 MPH I've gotten as good as 63, but generally I see around 57-58 MPG. It has the full factory race kit too. Race ECM, K&N, race exhaust.

Waiting for the snow to melt so I can break in the 09 XB12Ss

I have an '04 XB12R, I've seen as low as 35mpg and as high as 61mpg (the whole tank was highway on a roadtrip. Stayed at a consistant RPM the whole 120 miles for an hour and a half)

If I ride alone (more aggressive) I get 32 to 35 mpg, but longer rides with wife I have gotten 52 mpg. I'm usually 35-38 range. I have noticed big difference in brands of gas as well. BP seems best and convinence store brands with more ethanol alot worse.

Was averaging around 35mpg with a mix of city/highway, but did a decent amount of idling in traffic.

Ran some seafoam through the fuel/oil, got a bit more aggressive, now I'm getting around 40-45mpg.

Also I'm around 3k miles now, got my right side scoop on, and a breather reroute, noticed it runs a good deal cooler too. Probably helped some.

I get 38-39 making short trips in the city and 50 on the highway. Goes up a little in hot weather, down in cold or rainy weather. Also just a note, every bike I've had so far has done much better mileage at high altitude than sea level. I haven't ridden the buell at altitude yet.
