Well I'm looking around and found a 2009 cr w/6000 miles and some work done to it. Now I have currenty a xb9r and love it and I dont know too much about the 1125 motors but am interested in the cr for it's looks the higher gearing and more upright riding position. I guess the question I'm getting at is what are the differences from the xb and 1125 and what are known issues with the bikes and what should I look for when looking at the bike in person. Thanks in advanced and I hope to be a proud owner of an 1125 asap!

Apples and oranges, my friend. I had an 09 Lightning Long and sold it for a Cr as well. Once you ride one around a little, you'll be hooked. The Cr is so much fun to ride and so sweet looking. I'm new to them, but there are several guys on here who know a lot of good stuff about'm. Search for Puzzled and RT_Performance; good guys with important information. Find out if it's had any stator or regulator problems. If not, ask about a warranty or an extended warranty. Cr's are prone to stator trouble and also clutch weeping. Those are the main biggies as far as I know. Once you get it, put an exhaust on it, EBR preprogrammed ECM, tiddy tail, and you're practically set. I like the HMF exhaust the most and the FMF runs a close second; they sound like helicopters at idle :D EBR ECM is a must. It de-noids the bike, smooths out idle at lower RPM's, and makes for a little more top end. Also kills the fan from running after shutoff, which is a big plus. It's a liquid cooled bike, so it won't sound like an air-cooled Harley. They're unique sounding. Barkers Exhaust is a popular one and fairly cheap as well. That's about it, as far to my knowledge. Some say to get a steering dampener, but I didn't because I don't ride it that rough. Someday down the road I'll get one as a precaution, but they're too $$$ for me now. Post some pics of it! Black or red???

Good luck!! [up]

i will post pics as soon as i get them from the seller and i just emailed him about everything as far as warranty which is good until october and i just asked about the recall issues with stator and whatnot also found out it has the fallowing mods:
Factory high bar kit
Select seat
Black Uly pegs
Custom fender eliminator
Bar end mirrors
HID head lights
Heated grips
Traction grips
Tech spec tank/frame pads
Race ECM
Quick release seat kit
Noid block-off
2010 LED tail light
LED front turn signals
Uly 12v power socket
Pilot Road 2 tires
NJBO decal

and also would be interested in a gpr damper because i recently got thrown off my xb9 doing about 70 on a backroad because of head shake/tank slap so i will absolutely be purchasing one asap if i get this bike

puzzled does a forum discount on gpr and the cr one is now availble.

1125's make huge power easily twice what the xb does.
you will likely have a charging issue i did mine before it broke. stator rewind and better voltage regulator. i think and hope this is the long term fix.
doesn't drop into corners or feel slim but its a great bike

nj: Those are some good mods to already have! The ECM denoids the bike, but RT said it's good to take it off anyway to lighten the weight of the bike by around 5lbs. HID's are my next item along with the quick release seat. Sounds like a good bike!

RT: Did you have your stator rewound with a thicker more heat resistant wire? If so, where did you get this done at? Is it a hard job to get the stator off? And how long did it take until you got the stator back? What was the price, also?

NJ, this is my CR. It was a custom build but I have riden the XB12R firebolt and XB12s lightning and both are great bikes but when i got my 1125R, OH MY GOSH!!! It was night and day!!! After getting my thrills with the R, I did conversion to the CR and all the other custom stuff. Its a great bike now, just as it was as an R. I can only run about 150mph because its hard as hell to hang on going that fast. When I had the full fiberglass fairings, I could tuck in behind fairings and take speedo up to 175mph. Of course they say the speedo isnt accurate over 100mph but i know its fast as hell..... Enjoy if you pick one up.

Heat "resistant wire"....?!
No such thing.

"Custom Rewind" has a more heat resistant epoxy "covering" for the wire after it's wound (rewound!).

And no...the stator cover isn't difficult to remove and replace and the stator isn't difficult to remove from the cover..

Took me just over a week to get mine back..door to door.

Ah, it's an epoxy, ok. That makes sense. I've been doing some reading on the stator removal and it doesn't seem bad. I'm going to do the Mosfet regulator upgrade tomorrow, install my EBR ECM, and K&N filter and hope that the stator makes it the rest of the riding season so I can send it off this winter to Custom Rewind. You're the 4th person who's said the turn around time is pretty quick and the price is decent. Should hopefully have a bike that I won't have to worry about many electrical issues anymore! Pretty excited about the ECM install. Thanks Mike!

Congrats on the new bike, I have a 09 CR and so far its a great bike. I've heard a lot about stator and VR problems, so far nothing. One thing that I do have to mention is that it emmits a strong smell of gas after riding it, it does it for 10-15 min and sometimes it drips gas for a little bit. But there is a charcol canister that you can get from HD that comes standard on the CA models. But good luck and safe/happy riding.

Well my friends, Im gonna go look at an 09 CR tomorrow with 1100mls on it. Has been sitting in garage and needs an owner to drive it. I have my 08 R i converted to cr so i may convert back to r and buy this cr and then have both... Will keep ya updated. Thx, ML

lol this was an old thread. Id say go for it! I love my CR and if i had the money i would go buy an 08 R as a weekend/ track day bike and use my CR as the daily ride. I have 17,735 on my 09 CR now (as of 5 minutes ago) and can easily see me riding it into the ground. Only concern for you would be the stator issue with the 09-10 1125s but if you get the EBR rotor or convert to the 08 parts you can eliminate that issue. I had my stator, VR and harness replaced at 5,500 miles and have been issue free untill 14,100 miles when a relay went bad, ($15 + $150 for new battery +$100 labor) other than that I continue to ride every day and average anywhere from 50-400 miles of riding depending if i work or not.

I do like the red! I think I I got an R I would make it red (I would probably pick up an 08 to avoid the charging issue) and paint the frame like an 09-10. That's a little bit in the future tho, I'm more focused on finding a replacement for my explorer now and another bike may come after.
