At least that's what I have been told. This little buell is exactly what its name says, a blast. Is claimed to be the perfect starter bike, and is still plenty of fun for the experienced riders.

Any thoughts, or experiences?

They are ok. Funest thing to do is try and top them out. You get to about 80mph and you sit upright from a tuck position and you slow down :D. Its hilarious. But yeah they are a perfect starter bike. Feels like a scooter to people that ride bigger bikes but you have to start somewhere....

That is hillarious. 80mph is a little slow for my taste, but they do havwe the bottom end tq for all the other playful things you can do with them. Them little buells are lieght as heck too.

I would call the Buell Blast an inexpensive buell. It's pretty easy to find a good deal on a used one.

I'd say it'd be a good beginners bike. If my wife decides to get her license, I'm probably going to go that route for her.

That is probably what I will do. My wife wants a bike, so I will probably go that route as well. Maybe get one of the big sister buells for me though;)

I wouldnt exactly call a buell a perfect bike but it is ok the blast is the best of all of the buells.

The Buell Blast is far from the best. It is a good starter bike, but it lacks the power of the big boys. It would be ideal for short commutes to work in the summer. Good mpg.

I've heard that little buell is light and agile, and the thumper engine makes it sound great.

Buy a set of old Sportster Drag Pipes and put them on there, it sounds pretty mean.... lol

That's just it though. Buells are probably not the best at anything in particular, but rather some of the best "overall" bikes.

I think Buells are probably the best at handling. That seems to be what Erik is gunning for. And I read an article online somewhere by one of the big-name magazines (can't remember which one), and the XB9R came in #1 on their "Top 50 Best Handling Bikes Ever" review.

Back to the Blasts, there's a guy on the Badweb forums named EZBlast that has modded the crap outta' his. If I'm not mistaken, he's hit around 110mph... it's up to like 80+HP, and on a single cylinder! I think the case may be the only stock piece of the engine left, though... he's obsessed. :D

:DTerry P - a friend from ASBN - The Dyno guy at Vallejo HD/Buell - has 80 plus hp and did 135 mph at the last LSR , I've got 40 plus and have done 106 mph - Terry's bike is way modified, and not really that streetable, mine - however, will do everyday street duty pretty easily! My dailly driver has 35 hp(all hp quoted at the rear wheel in my writing) and is closer to stock engine wise -

has anyone just bumped up the compression on the xb12 say to 10.5 or 10.8..that alone should boost the torque quite a bit for street riding..and if so would it be a problem starting

Yes, and no there is no problem starting - lol
