View Full Version : What should the next 5-0dro design be?

As I get closer to the delivery of the 5-0dro pulley cover I'm starting to think about what might be next so as always, I'd like your input on this. I've had some 1125 guys feel left out recently. Maybe there's something that you 1125 guys are dying to have? Let's hear your ideas! All suggestions welcome! [cool]

Thanks!

So I know the x1 guys are scarce on here but... I loved the design of that pulley cover you made and have yet to find one I like for my x1.

Sometimes I feel like retarted kid among the red headed step children here.

Nice work tho dro!

Hi Dro.

One thing clearly missing in the reasonable price market.

A license plate holder for behind the wheel. With hidden wiring for the license light.
Like the ducati vyper style.

It would also help all of us with a tailmod to keep our backs clean whenever the girl feels like staying at home.

Greetings from Spain.

Mirror block off plates for the r (probably pretty easy)

Could go crazy and do rear sets- prob still be too expensive

Figure out some way to make a buell friendly bolt on helmet lock

Maybe a belt tensioner like the the free spirits one. It doesn't seem to be a very complex piece.

Hidden Brembo rear brake bracket, I know you said there could be legal ramifications but I thought I'd throw it up and see how many people are interested.

Bracket looks very easy to design/make and if you liked you could offer a kit also (bracket & brake caliper)

Wow!! I stepped away from the forum for a few hours to enjoy some Fathers' Day activities and come back to all this feedback! THANKS![up]

Some good suggestions out there! As stated...I'll likely stay away from brake components due to legal/liability reasons (at least for now).

X1 (or other tuber) stuff. Not opposed to it but would have to know that there's enough business for the parts.

Reasonable tensioner. What's the benefit of the sprung tensioner and why are people paying so much for them? I get the whole equal tension business but do we really "need" this or is it just a cool thing to have. Admittedly, I haven't done a bunch of research on this yet so this is my first line of "stupid questions" :p What's "reasonable"?

The plate mount is a good idea and sort of fits with the products I offer now. I need some better idea of how these have been mounted in the past and what's going to keep them from rotating and causing havoc? Again...need to dig into this some more also.

Block off plates, oil caps etc...Will consider those as well.

Thanks again for the feedback![up]

I got another idea for the plate. Same twist tho, but I think this is more plausible.
Use the same theory, on the left side have a hex hole cut into the bracket so that it matches perfectly with the sliders. then on the right side put a hole in it so both sliders act like a pinch. Now the twist on the right side of my swing arm there is a notch right in front of the axle so if you throw a 45 off the right bracket facing inward and maybe throw a slightly over sized rubber nipple on it so it locks it in place an so it doesn't scratch the swing arm

(I switched up forums, I rock)

Ohh and diesel contacted me today. They said

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. On rare occasions the spacer can shift in the drilling fixture, causing the gap you are experiencing. Please provide your shipping address and I'll get you a replacement piece right away."

5-0 :Free Spirits Drive Belt Tensioner - This tensioner prevents the Buell drive belt from being over tensioned, when the suspension is on full travel (eg, whilst performing stoppies). It also allows the belt to move out, should gravel be caught between the belt and pulleys, also potentially reducing the risk of broken belts. These are popular items, often fitted by knowledgeable Buell enthusiasts, but it is difficult to prove the actual value of them with statistics. http://steveturnbull.co.uk/buell/thexbpages/images/belttensioner2.jpg

That scoop is the Pegasus scoop for the euro model xb's (they have a higher arch on the front pipe like a micron) I have the Pegasus right scoop that looks as close as can be to the left, it is still different but closer than the comfort kit. Lefox is the person to get in touch with on here they are around 300. I got mine used for cheaper.

OK...Sorry for the late reply to you all. Let me try to address the latest ideas:

Frame spacers/Tail Lift: Honestly, I haven't gotten into casting (yet). I'd have to do alot of research in order to get that product going. I'm glad to see that Diesel is standing behind their products.

RH Scoop: This is a good idea. Do most of you prefer one that looks like the left one or a whole new (matching) set that may have a new shape (similar to what Xtremelow has on his bike)? Baja's looks very "one-off" to me so it may be difficult to produce something like that in a production environment.

Belt Tensioner: This is a good idea but I'm afraid that it might get real expensive real quick. I prefer to keep my products right around $100 so that more people can afford them. I'd have to put some more thought into this as well.

Thanks so much for your inputs! Keep them coming!

So far only XB ideas...There have to be some 1125 guys that want some aftermarket parts on their bikes?!?!?! Let's hear em!

I really dig the left and right scoops Xtremelow has on his bike.

I'm looking at that free spirits tensioner and it doesn't look to bad to me. Left and right plate are the same, so one milling process then split it, it reuses the stock pulley and bearing... Once the program is written, it's some aluminium, a HIM joint, a spring and a couple stainless bolts...

I agree. I don't mind being inspired by what others have already done and building from a benchmarked idea, but I want to put my own spin on things if not come up with an accessory completely on my own. I want people to know when they see a 5-0dro creation. I think I have achieved that especially with the pulley cover. Admittedly, some of the vacuum formed parts take me a bit out of my comfort zone. If I could do them at all, it will take alot of development (and likely cost) on my part.

Keep the ideas flowing! Thanks![up]

Hi Dro,

Just something simple which I noticed on my bike.

Whenever we change our indicators the new ones are smaller of size and leave an ugly mounting position. As the original ones have a pin to avoid turning.
I would like to see a thin anodized plate which gives it a nicer look.
New indicators just don´t fit correctly.

These should be very cheap and simple to make. But I have not found anything on the market. And I have visited numerous sites.

Also I can not tell if this part could be used for the 1125´s as well.

I hope you understand what I mean. If not. I could send you a picture.

1) Ceramic coated "header guards". They could radiate heat and cover the headers of guys that have rash on them. Of course you'd have to make different sizes for the 9s and 12s.

2) Pick a popular aftermarket headlight(like the LSL) and make a mounting bracket for it and the gauge cluster. I'd buy it!

I have a set of GSG Engine Sliders and man they cost me close to $230 with shipping and I had to wait almost 2 months for them. I wish Dro made some first would have got them from him. And they were all bolt ons super easy to put on, only took 15-20mins to do.
So I say Engine Sliders and Seat Rail Sliders.[up][up]

Something like those GSG ones would be sweet. And seeing as I just dropped the $400 on ceramic headers from ASB, I'm all about protecting them.

Wow guys! I've been on vacation this week so I haven't been on here as much! Looks like these engine guards would be a popular choice...let me do some homework on this and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the feedback! [up]

I also remember seeing one that mounted up infront of the headers, I'll see if I can find a picture of them.

These are kinda like what I meant, not where I remember seeing them mounted though.

Could you put this design on the belt drive? I think it would be cool to see something like this spinning

Wouldn't let me edit.

They're Soto Frame Sliders. The engine sliders I remember seeing were roughly the same, except it looked like they mounted up near the front engine mount. I'll keep looking.

I agree on a reasonable tensioner also.

Yes engine sliders. Make them slightly long enough to allow me to put my legs on them for distance!!:D

Haha!! Maybe not that lounged out but I will admit I have looked for a place for my feet on those longer rides. Dual purpose is always good to me so long as the original intent doesn't suffer!

Anyone have some donor cases (condition unimportant) that I can use for design work?

More specific? like a primary and the right side for early models/late models?

Yes...All of the above will be needed if I'm to come up with a design. Let me know if you have a scratched up or cracked one that I could use, borrow or buy from you.

Were there only 2 different timing covers? 2003-2007 and 2008-2010? Were the primaries all the same?

I do not have any of the above but I will be searching for ya.

I only know of the two changes. Not sure if there were any further. Hope someone chimes in!

Hidden Brembo Brake kit.

Thanks Jake!

I know not sure if anyone posted it up yet but how about Brembo Hidden Brake kit.

That has been brought up before but I'm going to stay away from any brake components for the time being for liability reasons. Thanks though!

Yup Jake, that's just what I was thinking. Trojan Horse has 2 sets like that on their site that are pretty nice.

How about a mirror cover plate that looks good or has a built in turn signal?

DRO think you could make the base for these lights? I think they could sell pretty well and all you would have to make is the base!?

Thanks guys but I have decided not to post product ideas publicly on threads like this one any longer. I will no longer divulge any further product plans until they are well on their way to production or at least fully formulated and designed.

This was a difficult decision for me as I strongly value your input and use your support to get me through it all but at this time our interactions will have to be limited to private messages. I will continue to value your input and strongly encourage you to send me any ideas you may have via a PM.

I appreciate your understanding my decision and look forward to hearing from you soon. [up]

Thanks for your continued support!

What happened?

50dro

What happened?

Nothing in particular. I just felt that the hard work that I (and you all) was putting into coming up with new ideas was becoming too public and that others were or could be benefiting from it. Nothing personal or dramatic...Just trying to protect my ideas and ultimately my business.

I still look forward to hearing from you all but feel that an public forum is simply too public for discussions like this and isn't always in the best interest of 5-0dro, Inc.
