Hi there! I just bought an XB9R, I gave $2500 for it and the guy had records of pretty much a whole engine rebuild 3 years and 4000 miles ago by Smith Brothers HD. THe bike looks like it may have been owned by an idiot at one time, the turn signals are completely gone, relays and all, it has massive scratching on the tail from where he always kicked the bike mounting and dismounting, and it was just super dirty all around. Anyway!
The bike has a dual exit exhaust, is this stock?
What all would I need to get the turn signals working again? There are a few dangling connectors under the cluster up front.
What does the trigger next to the clutch lever do?
When I start the bike, it dies, I have to restart it and then give it gas a bit and it will sit at idle after that.
The idle is really shaky, from 1500 to 800 RPM, what could this be?

Thanks guys!

Ok the trigger is a flasher for your headlight I think they call it flash to pass or something like that? I dont believe they came with two outlets on the exhaust but I may be wrong probably a custom addition, the signals I have no clue on! They prob had it wired with some different turn signals and just pulled them off, as long as there still connected you should be able to feed off of them. Sounds like maybe it has a bad tune or more than likely needs a TPS reset, look in the how to's and it should have a video on it. Welcome and Enjoy

I was typing same time I guess? But yeah same answers

Welcome not a bad deal.
Looks like a Buell Race pipe (good)
Trigger is the flash to pass
Need to reset the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Wow, more fun! When I was taking pics of the exhaust, I noticed another dangling connector! Any idea what this is? It's hanging above the exhaust. I'm thinking kickstand switch.

More connectors behind the headlights (Notice his ghetto job at wiring in these terrible reflectors)

My bike was running similarly, with poor idling, and stumbling at very light throttle when hot. I cleaned the intake air temperature sensor with electrical parts cleaner then rerouted the breather hoses and have ridden a couple hundred miles since and runs PERFECT. I'd bet between this, new plugs, and a TPS reset your bike will run great. You can search this forum for all of the above things, they are all here, I just rerouted my breather hoses, I'm going to post up a write up of my version with pics soon...

The thingy by the sidestand is legit, a bypass for the sidestand safety. No idea about the right side, though.

Where is the switch for that connector located at? I've looked around but I can't quite find it.

Bike looks good, what kind of headlights does he have in there? Can we get a front picture? I have a set of stock turn signals and a stock relay that I was going to list for sale with a few other things on the forum later, let me know if you need them.

Also, that big gray plug behind the headlights is for messing with the fuel maps. There isn't anything supposed to be plugged into it when you're not messing with that stuff.

Looks the bike could've been raced before. (Maybe check your oil cap, and drain plugs for safety wire holes.)
- That might explain the missing signals, so maybe he removed the relays for the blinkers?
- It does looks like a buell race can painted black. So perhaps some mapping changes were made. The connector up front, just looks like diagnostics port under the fair for the ecm, sans rubber plug which kind supports the thought the mapping has been tweaked or the tps reset before.
- The 9's don't have the interactive exhaust so I would imagine that cable would have to be out of the equation of the plugs and wires hanging loose near the exhaust.

Like suggested above. I would change the plugs, Plug Wires if need be. Try and reset the TPS. Having the ECM SPY cord might be invaluable to you in figuring out what the last guy did. You'll be able to check for engine codes, look at the maps and reset the tps with it. Just a few thoughts.

Yeah I was looking at the connector and it seems pretty easy to make, just have to wait for the parts to make one. And the headlight are like some kind of cheap reflectors, they shoot about as much light as a flash light. As for the plugs, he put E3 plugs in at 21646 miles, it's at like 21700 now, I don't know if they could be fouled or what. I'll see how resetting the TPS does and go from there. Also, when it dies sometimes, the engine doesn't want to start back up for a minute, just cranks and cranks.

Here are the headlights.

i know you and i have been talking about you buying my headlights, but as ugly as those ones look, they are probably 100% brighter than the stock XBr lights. unless you plan on getting the projectors and doing the HID kit. then its worth it :)

That's what I was hoping for, I have HIDs on everything I drive lol. These just shine out a circle pretty much.

Oil pressure switch?

It should be visible along the voltage wire to the snake pit behind the sprocket cover. Maybe somebody routed it underneath.

Nope, reroute has not been done, but he did put filters on, probly didn't do much, still dumping hot, oily air into the intake

that has to stop some of the oil from re-entering the engine. ur right about the hot air though. my filter smokes/steams hot air & its down by the starter motor
