So I want to paint my Cam Cover (05 12R) easy enough right? Only problem is that I'm no 100% sure if there's oil in there while the bike's off IE - can I take it off without draining the oil (and without having a big nasty spill)? I just changed the oil 700 miles ago.

Thanks guys.

So if I were to take the cover off without draining the oil there shouldn't be much draining out of there...

could be like 1/2 qt in there, would make a mess. if you just take your oil filter off first and drain from there it would be empty and no mess. and then just make sure the filter is full before you put it back on to lube your first start up.

there is a little bit inside but you will not lose all your oil. its supplied oil while its running but there is no cavity for it to just sit there. the buell engine is a dry sump.

the flow passages will prob be filled up. just drain it and do an oil change.
