Hello to everyone.
I need a little info and some help please. I have a 2003 XB9R that has a K@N air filter, a Buell Race muffler, and a stock ecm (bought it this way).

The problem is I am pretty sure that the engine is running lean, (it "pop's" aka backfires on coast-down). So knowing this I believe the best thing to do is to remap the ECM.

So with this in mind I have done a few search's and it seems the best thing to do seems to be to get the ecmspy software and cables. What I need help with is am I able to use this with the sock ecm or do I need to get a Racing ecm to be able to change the fuel map to what I need? Will the ecmspy software data log or do I have to go to a dyno.

P.S. Please keep in mind that I am a mech and have made a living repairing, and tuning car and truck for more that 15 years. But this is the first motorcycle I have played with so it is a bit new to me.

Thanks for all the help

You can remap the stock ECM. My recommendations is to go here: General-Motorcycle-Chat/150-Helpful-Links-for-Buellers....and-Growing. (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/General-Motorcycle-Chat/150-Helpful-Links-for-Buellers....and-Growing.) and look into this thread:HUGE ECMSpy Thread (http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5176) Yes it is a long thread, but I just currently started reading it as well. I have a 03 9R also but been outta the bike scene for a bit, so I am behind the curve. You need a cable to connect and you can get it here: http://www.xoptiinside.com/ along with a copy of ECMSpy since it is no longer avail for free download directly. Yes it can be found actually easy just cant remember where off hand. I got my copy when it was still the "best thing to use". I just downloaded TunerPro which is suppose to be better but since I am setup for ECMSpy that is what I am using for the moment. I might try to play with tunerpro later. Sorry not much help just a forwarning that it is a steep learning curve to get good at it. Mine is tweaked and I love it. I have moved from where it was intially tuned and now have to retune it for higher elevation, but like I said been a while and trying to clear the cobwebs outta the melon. :D
