Triple tree and fork size

I can't find it now, but I remember reading somewhere that earlier XB bikes used 41mm and then it changed to 43mm or something like that? I need a new upper triple tree and just want to know if I can buy any triple tree off of an XB12r or XB9r or if year and such matter.

03-04 sl's and all year scg's all run the 41mm front end not to sure about the 04's lighting/firebolt but i do know that in 05 they are 43mm except scg's

You can use a top triple from any year....41mm and 43mm all use the same TOP triple. The bottom triple changed in '05 with the change to 43mm forks on the standard ride height models.

I bought some 2005 forks on ebay for my 2005 and found out that I had 41/41 on my bike.

How is this possible on a 2005 to have a 41/41...

Also my old 2005 forks are a little shorter than the new ones I bought.
