Supervisor in a transit (city bus) shop. Been with the Co. for 29 years this month. Worked as a diesel mechanic, machinist, engineering tech.. Current job is 3rd shift, majorly sucks. I didn't ask for the "promotion" but a lot of people retired and money has been tight so everybody is doing more with less.

I could retire but still need to work. Was just talking with an agency that hires for Buell, only 5 miles away. They don't pay much for assembly but if I could work into a tech job it might be OK.

The problem with changing pulley sizes is you cant take links out of a belt. lol

yea, but there are other belts that could be suited to handle the power.

His_and_Her_Buells
07-16-2008, 09:48 AM
That's why we're working on the front & rear as a set to be able to maintain the same belt length. One of the hurdles however is likely having to adjust the idler pulley to accomadate the new diameter of the front pulley and maintain proper tension.

Hey Poohspot18, our MOS codes are only confusing when you start adding our additional skills in. Like technically I'm a 15U4N1. Ha Ha. But that doesn't change our rank like the Navy does that confuses people. How's an E6 in one field gonna have a different rank accronym than an E6 in another field?

Served seven years Navy on P-3 as an Aviation Electronic Tech.

Did a four year apprenticeship as a Tool&Die Maker, and then became a Journeyman Tool&Die Maker.

Got laid off in the early 90’s and went back to school and received my Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine. Passed the California State Board test for practicing Acupuncture.

Could not start a practice successfully and feed a family of four, so I went back into what I knew which is manufacturing. This eventually led me to my current job for eight years at a local University; I am the Engineering Technician for the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems Engineering program.

My son just finished his undergrad degree for Mechanical Engineering from USD and my daughter is about to finish this December from USD for her teaching degree. Then maybe I can start my practice!

Now I ask you, what kind of stress can you relieve with a golf club? As a high stress, technical, mechanical and artisian type career, I would think every dentist should ride motorcycles. Fast ones. Expensive ones. High performance ones. I'm glad to be here. This really works for me!

Hey Wrench...your "panhandler" occupation reminded me of this sunny afternoon, many years ago, drinking numerous Red Stripes, at the Bull & Whistle on the corner of Duval and Caroline in Key West.

While sitting on the second level balcony, I was watching this guy standing on the corner holding a sign that read "Dirty Jokes $1". While I sat there for way too many hours, watching and listening to this guy, he probably averaged about fifty people stopping per hour, dropping a dollar into his upturned cowboy hat, and listening to one of the guy's fifteen lame dirty jokes.

Eventually the guy folded up his sign, pocketed his earnings, grabbed his hat, and headed on his way.

Two days later, while I was heading out to dinner, there he was...the same guy, the same sign, the same corner. I started thinking...fifty dollars and hour, averaging just four hours a day, three hundred days a year(he needs some vacation time)...thanks $60,000, tax free, for telling lame dirty jokes. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?
