I've got an '07 Uly that I recently purchased and am still getting used to/figuring out. The other day, I decided to try going up a rough road that heads into a great little lake. I've actually taken my lowered softail up there a few times. Now it's awkward, manuevering the softail around the pot-holes, especially going up and down the steep hill sections. The Uly should be a breeze, right? WRONG! Ist gear is just to high! Going up the hill I stalled 'cause it couldn't chug slow enough. Coming back down hill, Very stressfull dragging the rear and feathering the front brake!
I'd like to use this bike for these kinds of roads as well as the paved, that's what it's supposed to be for, no?
Anyone else find this issue? What to do?
Cheers.

check the breather re-route post and feather the clutch.

hmm, just hit the throttle until your tire starts spinning, as long as you're going forward, you're good lol. But on a serious note, the breather re-route should fix your problem. It can be found here. (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Do-It-Yourself-Buell-Mods/Re-route-hoses/2) Hope that helps.

Thanks. I did the re-route and adjusted the idle to as low as possible. Will see now if that's the answer.

You could maybe do a 9 primary swap???

Okay, I dunno what a 9 primary swap is. Are you suggesting changing the primary pulley?

He means changing your sprocket to the xb9 sprocket, off your xb12 sprocket. It gives a bit more on the low end.

What effect would there be in the mid or top ? Thanks for the input.

I have a 06 Uly and would also like to gear it down a bit. Thanks alot for the info on the xb9 sprocket thing and the website http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/A17150.html [from"Trill"]
can anyone tell me kinda what top speed would be with swap?
or in other words .....right now my Uly does 65mph,5th gear,@ about 3000rpm. so what would it by like after swap? Thanks for any info.

well its 11% reduction and I am no math genious so I couldnt even figure a guestimate for you :( But I will give you a guestimate of about 3500 rpm at 65mph.. dont even quote me because I am prolly way off and should not even post haha..

But I dont think it will be a huge huge difference.. but prolly bout 500-1000 rpm/speed change at tops.. anyone know the facts?

I do know that you will be able to wheelie in more gears than before :)

I am thinking of doing this some day because I never really get the bike over 120 and by then the wind is holding me back soo much. I would be happy as long as the bike hits 110-120 at the rev limiter. And wheelies would be much easier in 2nd/3rd.

Hopefully someone that has done this will chime in for us!

Thanks. This may be the answer. If I do the swap, I'll let ya know. Cheers!

Okay. I'm getting sold on this 9 swap idea, and yakin' about it with a bud and he say's why not just put a bigger (say 2 more tooth) rear pulley on it. Similar result, less work, and easily swapped back! Your thoughts?

the problem is finding a belt that will fit & handle the torque.

the rpm range change with a 9 primairy will be around 500rpm. you will definatly feel de difference.

Hmmm. More food for thought. Speaking of food.....
