View Full Version : Headlight Conversion Projectors?

So I know the headlights suck in our bike. particularly the low beams. I was wondering if anyone has swapped the projectors out for something after market? I know people have done the Hella conversion but IMO I don't like the look and I'd rather not have to modify the front faring. I was checking out this site and thought these might work. What are your thoughts?

I dont understand why you say your headlights suck. Mine are awesome. 4500k HIDS are all you need.

Edit: I just want to add that the optics in our headlights are great. The cut off line is sharp, and the throw is far. What else do you want?

My guess he's got the flaking reflector issue which I'm not sure HIDs are the cure for as I don't have personal experience with.

As far as non-OEM replacements, I like the Blazer projectors from theretrofitsource and there are Hella projectors available on Amazon as well. These should be your best bet as they are sealed units. With other projectors you'd have to seal it up to avoid getting dust and other crud into the reflector bowl.

Why not just buy the updated headlights from your dealer? I agree with Dave, I have 5000k HIDs and they are AMAZING. I was very surprised with how sharp that cut off line is for a halogen projector.

I didn't know they had an updated version? Anyone know a part number or how much they would run?

If you have a flaking reflector, why dont you try taking it apart and spraying some high temp chrome paint on there. That may be a cheap temporary fix.

Cuz I want to do it once and right.

I appreciate that but I just want to have to deal with it over and over again. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but didnt want to start a new one. I have an 06 bolt and believe i have the flaking lens issue. I know its to late to do have the upgrade fixed via the recall. I like the retrofitsource idea and have emailed them before. Anyone go this route? What did you order?

The biggest problem that I can see with most retrofit projectors is that they are not sealed like the stock units and other offerings from Hella. Using them on our bikes without sealing them would let dirt/grime/water into the reflector bowls. You'd have to find a way to close them in, but other than that, the retrofit shouldn't be any more difficult.

FWIW - If I went with TRS offerings I'd look at the morimoto mini's (due to size) and the blazer fogs (because they're sealed).

It says not in stock for a new one, they have a used one, but I bought my new style from them about 2 months ago.Made a HUGE difference but IMO Its still not enough for me. I'm going to be doing an HID very soon..Any one got recommendations on brands?

@Dusty

Do you run those HID's? Any pics of how they look on the Buell?

I run the 35W 5000K kit from DDM in the low beam only and it's awesome!

Thanks for the feed back Sirius815. Are the ballasts fairly slim, where did you mount them?

Thanks!

Don't have any pictures on this computer but I have the 35w 4500k and love them. Ballasts are slim enough to have them all mounted under the front fairing on my R.

I just got my Lightning but I have an SUV with 18, yes, 18 HIDs. All from DDM Tuning. They are not bad at all, but the salts in the bulbs are rather cheap, the color fades but its not a huge deal. Im looking to do HIDs in my bike but im second guessing DDM. Retrofit headlights will convert to projectors with a MUCH higher quality bulb and ballast. Also, you can get it with angel eyes that you can wire to parking lights. By doing a retrofit, you can convert both headlights to LOW with both switching to HIGH.

I am also not sure if a retrofit kit will fit in the lightning housing. It looks to be very tight but close to perfect. Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1)** would be the kit that would maybe fit. Any suggestions?

Well, I agree they are not as bright, but white is so bland. I like the blue tint and when you have 18 of them, a few less lumins dont make a difference lmao
