i have a 2002 and a 2003 blast. both were bought used and both clunk loudly when going into 1st from neutral. i have lowered the idle speed and that helped a bit. suggestions?

Its normal. We deal with the Riders Edge Blasts here at the store and they all do it, even new.

SHi....oo...t, my 07 CityX does that, did I break it? Gives the bike character in my opinion.

My 85 sporty did it, my uly does it... like Fido said, adds character. Makes it sound manly.

You just have to grunt a couple times, shift it into first, and give it the berries off the line. =)

Yeah, my 08 Firebolt clunks a bit. And I agree, gives it a manly sounds. If Barbi had a bike it wouldn't be a Buell!! (It woud be a ninja:p)

If your handy with tools and don't mind an afternoons work and about 50 bucks worth of parts - 1 o-ring, shaft seal, primary gasket ,and primary inspection gasket - you could dive into the primary and do the Pawl adustment and make sure your drum pins are all the same length - gently tapping in the long ones till they match the rest, perhaps chamfer the stator wire protection plates edges as well - then do the clutch adjustment, put it together and then adjust the primary - about 8 flats out from torque speck should be safe - then when its warmed up with a good 1/2hr heat cycle let it idle, loosen primary till you hear sound, then tighten till sound stops, then tighten lock nut - primary then is adjusted correctly, turn off - have some coffewe or tea, then do another 1/2hr heat cycle - the fun part and retorque your case cover to spec - and your shifting will be better than when new - both of my bikes - with over 20,000 on each just click along.
