I'm looking at picking up an 03 XB9R that won't stay in 2nd gear. The owner states that all the other gears work fine. Is something out of adjustment in the trans? Or is this likely to be a serious issue?

31k, $2500 FYI

i wouldn't do it...
if i buy a bike the engine needs to be 100%. bodywork can be replaced easy.

if you want to be sure, you need to open the gearbox. [smirk]

True but how hard/expensive is a new transmission on these bikes? $2500 seems pretty inexpensive, if its the trans maybe he'd go cheaper?

yea, and if the 2nd gear is worn because of hard, non clutch shifting?
how sure are you the rest isn't going to follow anytime soon?

would ask the seller, why it doesn't stay, how long it's been like that and why he didn't do anything about it.

if he's selling at 2500$ he'll probably know it isn't 100% and wants to get rid of it, fast.

That bike was sold before I got a chance to look at it...

However I will have Q's about the '03 XB9S I'm getting on Thurs. (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Lightning-XB12S-XB12Ss-CityX-XB12Scg/Gutted-muffler-Mufflerectomy)
