riding around a week or so ago and i started hearing funny vibration noises at certain RPMs, but could never figure out where.

1 afternoon I revved the Uly and tried to hear where it is coming from, then it sounded like it was coming from the front cylinder...then the next day the horn sounded bit funny while gently trying to send a message to a considerate motorist that cut in front of me without using indicators..

long story short, ended up being the horn bracket the snapped clean off (from vibration I suppose).

welded it back together and welded the 2 plates to each other. now it is stronger and better than factory! :)

horny grabbed my attention. was hoping it would have been posted by female site member. LOL
for what it's worth, all the vintage jap bikes have what's called a multi plate horn bracket. it is usually 2 thin wafer plates comprising the bracket and you could drill and cut it to match the XB broken bracket with little trouble. did you try searching ebay for kawi KZ-yamaha RD old junker horn? they have that bracket.

Same exact thing happened to me several weeks ago. Luckily I had some scrap aluminum hanging around that was the same width but three times as thick so I just cut it to shape drilled the holes and slapped it on. No problems since plus it's stronger and lighter than the other piece.

I think that has happened to mine. Still waiting for some torx bits in the mail to take the front off and have a look. My horn sounds like its been ran over and I have a odd rattle.

i had some cold rolled steel (1.2mm), but was too lazy to cut a new bracket, work out down, file it, paint it - just welded old bracket up, weld 2 plates together, put some NS5 rust protector, rattle can primer and paint and back on the next morning. :)

Seems to be a common problem. Mine broke as well. I haven't taken the front fairing off yet, but I kinda put 2 and 2 together when I tried the horn and it didn't work. I have been hearing a weird rattle from up front for a while now.

Time for the old "Air horn hidden in the Airbox" trick. (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Do-It-Yourself-Buell-Mods/Air-horn-filling-the-void)

guess what? the friggin horn bracket broke - again!

at first i thought my welding was not as good as i thought, but it snapped off below the repair. so either the metal is just bad, the heat from welding weakened the metal or the recent off road trip might have just added to it.

took bracket off and mounted it straight to the brace behind the screen.

Nice fix. Mine did the same thing and I put a Sportster horn on that had a more substantial strap.

I decided that the Uly horn wasn't adequate enough and put on two freeway blasters (high and low tone).

WHAT A DIFFERENCE FROM STOCK! May not be an "air" horn but cars notice me more than ever when I honk at them with the freeway blasters.

Mounting them was pretty easy, just used the parts that come with the kit and used the existing horn mount. Bent the metal bracket holding the horn / cowl together so that the horns could be directed DOWNWARD through the opens left by the headlight mount bends. Wired up a dedicated relay and power for them, so no limitation on whether I blow a fuse for the brake light or not!
