This is true, but it does weigh in on how much more common sense you possess than I do...Which is a good thing.[up]

How did you do that? I snapped off pegs and you can see how far I got, that's not a Scorpion sync tire though is it? How much difference would the tire type make?

my girl rides a 07 zx6r and i removed any traces of chicken strips on hers, i think she has metzlers. but i just cant use all of the diablo rosso on my 07 xb12r. i am faster on my buell and believe turning harder and leaning just as far if not further on my buell but it just doesnt use all the tire.

i think it varies tire to tire and bike to bike. wheelbase, height, ect ect.

1st pic: pirelli supercorsa pro
2nd pic: michelin pilot power 2ct
front tire i have about 0.03" (1mm) left before i edge it.
the rear is now actually just outside the edge. you have about a 0.07" flat edge on the michelin.

how? lean...dunno how to explain it :o
i use the bike, relax and just lean in as much as the corner allows me too.
like i said, you don't always have to ride fast...you need the acceleration.

also, do you still have those slider bolts in your pegs? remove them if that is what is the cause of your pegs getting hooked & breaking.

lefox I bet those tires hate the rain.!![mad]
the ones in the 1st picture, yea...had some nice powerslides with them when it was wet :o
the ones on the 2nd picture are actually pretty damn good in rainy weather.

Yeah I am with Lefox man no one should have chicken strips on their tires!!! Lean it over some more and get rid of those chicken strips. Use all of those tires you pay good money for.

That's the thing, I rub the sides of my boot, that's how far I lean over, and I don't have huge feet or anything.

just a Q...
how are your feet on the pegs?

i also have higher pegs (= same position as 'r' pegs)

I'd post pics of strips if there were any. Both front and back are totally gone. Find some twisties that are tight and relatively safe, and hit them over and over again. But buy gear first if you dont already ride with it. If youre getting to the edge of the tires, you'll be getting close with the knee if you're leaning off a bit...so puck up.

typeone
07-28-2008, 09:41 PM
the size of your 'strips have a lot to do with body position, not just how big your balls are on the street.

chicken strip threads should have a tire shot and a full-body shot mid corner. ive seen riders boast about having no strips but their body language is totally off.

FIDOSOL
07-28-2008, 09:52 PM
Peg is in the middle of the bottom of my boot. Anyone else running scorpion syncs? Would love to see those chicken strips to compare, maybe my body position of off, I just go with what feels right, locked in tight to the bike, shift from one side of the seat to the other. I'm all self taught on taking twisties...

typeone
07-28-2008, 10:05 PM
ball of your foot on the peg is what you want to shoot for in most spirited 'sport riding' instances. dont hang your foot in the middle of your boot (front of heel), no control there plus you could snag your toe mid-corner.

yep, like typeone said, ball of foot, just beginning of the toes.

do no point your knee out, shifting body should be no more than 3/4's of a butt-cheak.
the arm on the outside of the corner should be relaxed and leaning (slightly) on your airbox-cover.

...I'm all self taught on taking twisties...
so am i... ;)

but very important...do not push it!!!
do what feels natural, you will go deeper without knowing it.

you can still go deeper...you have a enough left on the front ;)

I'd love to be able to say street...but no, this was after a day at Donington Park UK.

Mind you, I have fried my tyres before, playing knee down on a local set of roundabouts but I was that bloody dizzy afterwards I could barely walk straight.

I need to grind some more off my pipe before I get it in any deeper.....can't think of an excuse for left handers though :D

Thats pretty damn amazing Fox! When your down that far you don't worry about gravel/oil/water on the road and the bike just slipping out from under you? I mean I know I can physically take my bike lower, but whenever I get to about a 60 degree angle images of sliding across the pavement start flashing across my mind. One of these days Ill break down and buy a digital camera and post some pics.

already happened...got on some diesel on a straight before getting into a corner.
something felt wierd and when i looked left, i saw my rear wheel next to me and had 2 choices...
1. keep going straight, hit the rail and end up flat on my back on the highway
2. hit the rear brake, lay it down and slide into a ditch.
...took option 2 and was left with bent handlebar, broken turnlight, peg and some scratches on my leathers. at about 65mph, i don't regret the choice i made.

but that goes to show that sh!t can happen anytime, anywhere...if you think what can go wrong while doing it you have a big chance you'll end up making a mistake and get what you were thinking of.

I didn't read every post, so it may have already been said. Chicken strips have alot to do with body position. I routinely drag knee at the track and use every inch of tire, on the street I hang off the bike just like at the track and always end up with about a 1/4" on both sides of tire. That's at an aggressive pace as well but because I get so far off the bike does not have to work as hard in the turn. I know other, slower, riders who don't get off the bike at all and they have no chicken strips after a ride. I also know guys who ride wfo on the street, get off the bike as much as me, and have no chicken strips but they are clinically insane lol.

Stevenc150
10-13-2011, 12:47 PM
All that aside, you'll never see a Pro AMA bike with chicken strips. If you're touching knee and still have strips, then you're hanging too far off the bike. Regardless of knee drags - the more horizontal lean you get, and still hold traction, the faster you can go. It's just physics.

marko138
10-13-2011, 12:53 PM
I don't ride like that on the street anymore. Too many risks. Not worth it. Good for you guys though. More power to you.
