well I was at an undisclosed place yesterday had about a 5 mile flat empty stretch. And so I said what the heck and opened it up and when the rev limiter started bouncing at 7200 I looked over and saw the speedo said 150. I don't know if there is any error and how much there is if any in the speedo. But the bike was very stable at these speeds and I loved it:D:D:D:D

I was wondering how much the 08's top speed increased with the higher rev, but I was never willing to test it on my bike.:( scary

Speedo on my 07' XB9SX is off by about 3mph (it reads fast)...I'd love to make it to that "undisclosed location" and top mine out...

FIDOSOL - if you do this, get yourself a GPS (your unit probably has one you can sign out) and check your top speed with that. The speedo on the bike will be off.

Unfortunately our pluggers and daggers are drawn en masse or not at all...everything is about what I like to call the ****S (soldiers here in training.)

my gps on the way down to laguna read 139. at full speed. but it was a fantastic ride

Yes just because the speedo said 150 doesn't mean you were going that fast. They all top out at 138mph no matter what. That is the XB model anyway.

I have an 08, and I dont know what my top speed is, but I know its over 138. Been over that once or twice ;)

Again you are wrong they all top out at 138 it doesn't matter what the speedo says they are off when you get to that high of a mph.

I've hit 140 a couple of time just never pushed it to the limiter at 7200. Our rev limit is 400 or 500 rpms higher than the 03-07's which will put out a few more mph

Hey dans, do you work for buell? Confirm that with someone that does please, because I'd really like to know from an official employee of Buell what the models were designed to top out at. Oh and the speedo's are off at a consistent mph (3-4) or whatever across the entire range. It doesn't get worse the faster you go because the speedometer cable or sensor (depending on what kind of vehicle you are running) was designed to match whatever the speedo registers, or sometimes a little more. For example an army HMMWV registers 60mph but will do at least 80mph before the speedometer cable snaps. It is off consistently 2-3 mph across the entire range of the speedometer. Granted there will be exceptions as with all equipment. But it will be rare indeed to find a speedometer that gets progressively worse the faster you go.

Please don't get offended because I'm not trying to ba an ass or whatever but I am aware that I come off that way to alot of people most of the time.

So you mean to tell me having the same gear ratios as the 03-07's and have 7200 as my rev limit instead of 6800 that I turn 400 to 500 more rpm and still go 138 max and have a 12 mph error in the speedo. Explain what is happening then? cause I believe your mathmatics might be just a hair off. Your theory make no sense cause where are the last 400 rpms going to then my cooling fan?

Maybe the tach is inaccurate as well...

the tach and miles are very accurate just the acutal mph is off but not by much japanese bikes are off by more at times. i have friend who have buells and they came to the same coclusion. but it isnt about top speed its about the corners. and i feel that the buell will hold more speed though the turns than most maybe its because im comfortable with the bolt. but we ride the best looking bikes around bar nun. I hope to meet some of you guys and ladys on the road[cool]

nope they raised the rev limited to 7200 in 08. It even shows on the gauge face

the twelve and the nine have diffrent primary pullys if im not mistaken

your right I forgot about that good one Buell007. So being a 12 it will go faster but if I put the 9 primary in I will lose about 10% on top end but I will pull like a train out of corners and give me engine braking

sorry, but this is not correct.
no 2 engines are the same...and the air in one state is different than the air in the other, which means one will have that bit more.

some do less, some do more...a speedo error on a bike is not that much and won't be more than 5mph
