I'm telling you straight up I have all 2008 parts on my 03 xb9r frame everything new and their was a stock Gsxr 1000 that was next to me on the freeway doing 165 and I was right behind him cruising down the interstate with 4 other friends. I'll be more than happy to show y'all that me and that other guy did 160 on our 12's. My 03xb9r did 146 so I don't know why everyone elses bikes are slower.

135mph good enough for now with all that Touring **** on. And she was still climbing, I saw 137 but she starting shaking due to the windscreen IMO, so I backed off + traffic was not good for this speed.

In this post you are claiming you have had the bike on the dyno to increase performance am I missing something? Where are the mods to the gearing because the dyno doesn't contol top speed like video games

Get a GPS take a vid of the bastard while riding and that would be the only way I would believe someone over the net. I know you will counter this by saying that you can't hold it while riding, my simple reply to that, don't, set it up behind your windscreen. The reasons I do not believe you is #1 you hang out with Jobe and are from *gasp* WISCONSIN sane people do not live there #2 you would have to answer yes to just one of the following questions(#1 do you have a chain conversion? #2 did you up grade any of your pullies? #3 did you completely remove your rev limiter and add some kind of God matterial for the internals of your motor ie. crank, rods, pistons...?), you may have I don't know. You are not the first nor the last to claim thier bike goes faster than our bikes are made to go without proper modifications(read gearing), but yes your friends would never lie about how fast they were going, and you don't have something to prove. As we who've read the formula's one this thread know, it's gearing and rpm and tire circumference that determine top speed and unless these things have been changed an 03 9R will top out around 130ish. I've seen an indicated 142 on my bike with a bit of rpm to spare and I've reluctantly chalked that up to speedo error.

Good reply, you defended your point well. You spent 6k to get you to your top speed quicker not to get a higher top speed, which I believe you are argueing about, good job. If you do want a higher top speed go out and purchase a chain conversion, you have already "proven" you are willing to throw down coin.

Hi all. i've watched all the back and forwards wrt top speed. I have a 2003 bolt with buell race ecm, filter and exhuast. I'VE had it up to 200 kilos per hour on a straight flat road, can't remember what the revs were doing, or should i say too scared to take eyes off the road. Not sure what that is in MPH. Anyways, the emphasis of these bikes is not top speed, rather the riding experience and character of the bike, not to mention the good handling and other quirkiness that goes with it. 200 KPH is plenty fast for me thanks. Even at that speed I hear the grim reaper sharpening that blade.

Here is the specs on a 2009 XB12R (From Buell.com)

Primary Drive Ratio 1.500 (57/38)

Secondary Drive Member Pitch Length (# of Teeth or # of Links) 128
You said you had a 128 tooth belt

Secondary Drive Ratio 2.407 (65/27)
and you said you had a 65 tooth rear sprocket

Transmission Ratio, 5th 1

Primary drive, * secondary drive * fifth gear ratio gives you final drive ratio, or...

1.5*2.407*1= 3.6105

I am going to take a wag at tires. We'll use mine, 180/55ZR17

Tread width * aspect ratio divided by 24.5 to get inches * 2 to get the top and bottom of the tire + rim size, so...
((180*.55/24.5)*2)+17=25.0816 [see note 1]

Now, the formula is, (RPM*Tire diameter/(gear ratio*336)=max speed [see note 2]

or, (7000*25.08)/(3.61*336)=144.7368 [see note 3]


Note 1: tire diameter doesn't take into account actual tire height, tire height may vary from batch to batch, from manufacture to manufacture. Tire height does not take into account tire wear, actual tire height may a millimeter or two. Tire height also does not take into account tire contact patch area will have a "squashing" effect on the bottom side of the tire limiting that half's actual height. Tire pressure will increase from heat at such speeds causing a slight increase in tire height. Centrifugal force will cause a slight tire height increase at such speeds.

NOTE 2: 336 is a constant.

NOTE 3: 7000 RPM is what I remember being the max RPM for my 12 engine.

Using the above formula with 7800 RPM's the max speed would be 161.278. At 7800 RPM's the valve springs would not be able to keep the valves from bouncing off their seats, "valve float" Therefor a much heavier valve spring would be needed. Such a valve spring would require the use of a overhead cam, or solid lifters as the hydraulic lifters would collapse under such a valve spring. Either scenario would require a added oiling system to achieve the necessary oil to the top of the head.

Not possible with a belt drive without being able to turn 7800 RPM's. Not possible to turn 7800 RPM's without a RR engine.

Might be possible with a chain drive conversion though then weight to power ratio would have to be calculated as well as rolling resistance, engine friction lose and drag coefficient.

what is done to it? it would be neat to see a thread with engine mods. especially if its raising the rev limit in a reliable fashion, which would also increase hp. there arent too many people doing engine modifications. but even still that is 4-500 rpm away from whats required based on the previous arguments.

Did you change the primary gearing ratios or any of the internal transmission gearing (I've never seen any alternate ratio tranny gears available, but perhaps you know of a Sportster gear set that fits or something else?)? You've already stated your running the stock drive belt ratios, so that's all that is left to achieve that kind of speed (primary or tranny), curious.

. . .Ok feller, My bike is a 0812S which i ride regularly along side two ZX10's a ZX12 and a V-Max. I'm down in TX with tons of long straight roads to get wide open on. after 7000 miles of riding in a season i have come to the conclusion that the only way for me to break that 140ish plane is to buy a different bike. I'm no mechanic how ever my riding buddy has been building race bikes and cars for 30 years is, and with out major engine work or a different engine all together you can only reach that 140ish faster even with a turbo and NOS and chain drive and any other power adder. You're on a forum with a lot of knowledge and experience, you may not realize it but you're arguing with engineers and other extremely educated and intelligent people. if you want to jump onto a forum and brag about your bike blowing away I-4's on the top end then i'm sure SSB or some pop-culture forum has plenty of entertaining opponents for you to banter with. I have no ill will toward you and I only say this to try to help you realize that MAYBE you're not actually fooling anyone.

I did great on the short tracks @ Firebird Raceway, no long straits and the XB was really a fun ride and could do just fine. Then again the track we used for Track Days, was less than a mile.

I've backed up everything I've said, and after I post my vid I'll explain what I did to my bike so I don't know what you mean by I havnt backed up what I said. People doubted that I ran 11.9 in the 1/4 on my 9r and I showed them my slip times. The bikes that were in my garage I fixed up and sold to pay for my buell parts. But I guess I can't really prove that unless you knew me in person and saw all the titles. And now just my top speed witch I'll explain what I all did when I'm done. Still waiting for Michael at ebr to call me up to make my app for them to put a second o2 sensor on my bike so they can do my final dyno tune since I'm running lean in my front cylinder.

Idk if this is different then yours but I have a 65 tooth rear sprocket Not sure what my front is but then I have a 128 tooth belt i hope you prove everyone wrong and share the info but gearing is how your going to get that speed and if you have done all these mods to your bike i would think you would know wich front sprocket you have how many teeth and what the final drive with the custom sprocket is.

All you had to do was say chain and it would have been done with. UGH what a waste of time. A stock 08 engine with a chain at 46/21 will do 152. Well within the speedo error range to show you around 160.
