I think that looks pretty slick. Granted I would go for that shade of red. Black would look badass I think.

i just dont find the 1125cr or the 1125r looking good at all, i think the front is ugly as hell. the 1125r kinda looks like a honda 1000rr from the front.

Nice mock-up, but with the XB rear it even looks more like a top heavy defensive lineman. Now if there was a way to lose those gross ass scoops and relocate the radiator, then we'd be in business.:D

I like the 1125CR much better in red. I wasn't a big fan the first time I saw the black one. I could go with either tail section. Nice photoshop work![up]

I think it would look even better with the S tail instead of the Ss tail, but I'm still no fan of the 1125 line anyway.

lunatic
08-14-2008, 11:28 AM
yeah we dont get S in australia. dont think it would be very hard to do either as the 1125 has the same rear as the xb12r so theory should be close to direct swap. waiting for dealer to get a CR in so i can see it in flesh to make my decision. between the 1125CR and the XB12SS

few Questions for the masses, how easy do you think it would be to change rear seems like the rear is the same as the XBR so as the XBR can change with the XBS should be direct swap ??

if removing mirrors where could i mount the indicators, probly get bar end mirrors. cheers

if removing mirrors where could i mount the indicators, probly get bar end mirrors.

This has me thinking, doesn't anyone make bar-end mirrors with indicators in them? There's an idea...

I assume you meant where could you put them on your actual bike...but if you meant in photoshop, I would graft something onto/into the big ass air scoops. May even try it on the real thing if something could be found to make it work and look good.

lunatic
08-20-2008, 09:50 AM
yeah i was thinking grafted into the scoops like the benelli and other similar bikes. indicators on the bar end mirrors might work. will have to see when the dealer gets one in, in october. cheers

riddle me this,

how much shorter is the S tail to the SS,( i want a short tail but not ridiculously short) and will a 2008 S seat fit the 2009 SCG tail

jsg
12-17-2008, 12:06 AM
Ok, it's about 2 inches I think, second question is yes since I just put a S seat on my Scg because the only dif. between the S and Scg is the seat and about 1 inch lower suspension everything else is the same

Here is my little shop to the above shopped bike, tried to add the frame in all the way, chopped exhaust, touch up the tail (I would go with an S tail) and an actual radiator location.

Drews pic is a photoshop, no such fairing kit is available.
One of the European aftermarket companies makes a sweet CR fairing kit that is similar. I believe its solobuell. I am too sick and lazy right now to look it up, sorry [sad]

Also Lunatic, it is not a direct swap, the bottom mounts line up, but the top edges needs to be shaved to increase the angle of the tail, and the top left is way off. The top right is close, but not quite.

I know, I put a Uly tail on my 08R and did a CR front end swap.
Someone by the name of Texas something has a post about it, and I did my best to give him advice.

You will need some machining capabilities, or some decent fab skills to get it done. Also the rear shock is off to the right of the bike, so the undertail needs to be modified.

Here are some pics of mine, mock up and where I stand now. I still need to get the tail painted.

Two guns, are you talking about my bike? Not sure what you mean by heatsink?

twoguns
03-09-2011, 02:38 PM
its the metal box in teh wiring that was attached to the CR subframe and was to disperse the ehat to teh frame. regulator or something... but we call it hte heat sink. you would have needed to relocate that to some part of your S frame or something. just curious of the solution?

Jornum1
03-09-2011, 03:20 PM
Ahh the regulator! That's what I call it!

I relocated it behind the battery. That was the one item that I had to modify besides the tail/signal wiring. I had to lengthen the 3 wires coming from the stator.

The components were mounted like this front to back

Starting solenoid-------battery
Fuse box------------------
relay box-----------------regulator

Plenty of room in the uly tail. Should be plenty in the s or ss tail as well.

twoguns
03-09-2011, 03:30 PM
there is not plenty in the S tail. very compact. with all that wiring. i have already looked at it. and decided not to go there just yet. didnt like the idea of modding my wiring.

Jornum1
03-09-2011, 03:37 PM
I suppose, I only have experience with the ss tail. Modding the wiring isn't that bad. There are only 4 components in there. The hard part is getting the tail to fit!

I love the S tail on the CRs as well, which is the reason I have so many pictures of it on my computer when I don't even have a CR. The short tail is my favorite thing about Buells, whether it's the XBs or the S1. I think with some normal high bars the bike looks great with the XB tail. I'm not crazy about the photoshops with the Ss tails though, it's gotta be the shorter S tail.

CR's look badass with lightning tails, IMO.

I like the look of firebolts with lighting tails, too! (my bike)

I was in the process of a full lightning conversion, and spring came quickly. I started thinking of how to get the bike back together quickly, and I ended up with the lightning SCG tail on my bike. The look really grew on me, so I decided to keep it that way!

If I ever buy a CR, the lightning tail conversion is a must!

I got call on Friday that more parts have arrived for my conversion project. I got the Renthal clip-on bars but more and more homework I do, the more the stock 'clubman bars' sound better and better. I found some brembo master cylinder levers for brake and clutch but then Im being told I will need to replace the actual calipers as well. Anyway, I should have the stock 'clubmans' on the next week. The XB lightning tail is still being set aside for now and will be in the 'fabrication status' hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Im very honest that I 'REALLY' want to do some good designing and homework on this conversion because of sooo many people asking about the conversion. I know people want to do it and some have tried and failed. Im actually trying to put it on paper with measurements and all so others can do it. By all means, if anyone has ideas or comments or complaints or bitches, I don't care!!! I really would like feedback from as many people as possible... Please give me ideas of what YOU want to see and maybe anything I may be missing or forgeting to look into while designing.. Im gonna try and design this conversion for 2 people, rider and passenger. Thanks for all feedback.... Email me personally if you need to or want to. TexasRoadRanger@yahoo.com Michael

Worked on bike today some. Had to replace the thermostat and one of the fans came unplugged so hope this is my overheating problem. I worked some on the left side rail special bracket and was trying to make it out of 1/4" steel plate. I have it bent up to help attach the left rail some but trying to engineer more bracing to maybe attach to bottom mount on the back side for more stress relief and make front mount stronger to help with holding 2 people on bike. I havent downloaded pics yet but will try and update in the next couple of weeks. Im still waiting for rear center section so i can do entire frame work and paint while designing more structure points under seat. Thx guys, believe me when i say its not a direct bolt-on. Lots of designing and adjusting of mounting points and such. Im very happy with it though. I went out this morning for some very hard riding with the RGV sport riders and was really hitting the curves and turns hard and she held up very fine and overheating problem is gone. Im happy...

that one in the link looks awesome. I keep wondering with pegusas racing is going to come out with the radiator kits for the typhon because i think those would look awesome on a cr.

With parts and labor, stress, headaches, and just all around BS, I probably spent over $1000.00. You need the side rails, undertray, seat, dremel tool, tape measure, mechanic and engineering skills, several different types of nuts and bolts, and lots and lots of patience....

Okay not a problem, I am actually a tech myself, where did you get the stuff for ypurs?

all new parts from HD/Buell dealer. I used 2008 xb12scg tail. Just go to dealer and ask to look at parts catalog.

I put the lower xb lightning fairing bellypan that EBRacing sells and really looks cool now.... I have had a few buell guys in area want to do this same conversion and carbonfiber kit. Only problem is they dont want to pay the money for parts and all the labor and such. I bought EVERYTHING new so I wouldnt have any problems. These guys just wanna be cheap, lol.

I was brain-storming with a fellow bueller and we were looking at the RR brackets that come with the FreeSpirit solo tailsection and tank cover from adrenaline-moto.uk and I think with a little engineering and measurements, Im thinking of maybe making some experimental brackets out of wood and see what it would take to maybe make a mold to make some 'aftermarket brackets' to attach an XB tail section (complete) onto an 1125 frame. Im just throwing it out there and it might take a while, but if it is sucessful, I will keep all of you up to date.

On wet roads do those style tails (in particular those with a fender eliminator) throw all sorts of grime onto the rider's back?

Is your bracket idea to make a wood mold for a fiberglass piece? If so, be careful that it is rigid. Maybe leave a wood core (balsa?) or a foam core to be safe. I'd hate to see you flailing around on a broken subframe with the rear tire about to eat your nutsack!

No, I think making a wooden 'mold' that I can carve and cut on and do all the adjustments to where it fits perfect, and then take that mold to a metal shop and fabricate the exact pieces out of aluminum or billet (something strong and reinforced) Im sure LOTS of trial and error but wood 1X4's or something similar are a piece of cake to cut with a scroll saw or band saw. Plus, if I messup, just get another piece of wood, lol.

A hot knife on modeling foam is even easier to sculpt than wood, from what I've seen.

texasroadranger

I was kinda thinking wood because I could actually have a 'hard mold' so I can bolt everything up and see how it looks with the complete tailsection bolted up and give my 'It looks good to me' approval.

These came with my RR fairings for the solo tail/ tank setup and when I totalled my 2008 1125R in Feb 2013, I salvaged them off the frame before insurance company picked up bike. Im gonna try and maybe see if I can fabricate/ modify them somehow to bolt-up an S Tail and actually be able to ride 2 up. (2 people)
