i think certain years are. not sure if i am remembering correctly, but i think there is a difference with some swing arms and the mounts. also though they have different primary gearing. so this needs to be considered, depending on your final drive.

Jugs, cylinder heads, case are the same. They changed several things for the 08 MYand I'm sure other years. Crank pin and oil pump was a couple of the big changes. At the plant they called them "Mr. Potato Head Bikes"

I could be wrong about this but its my understanding that the crank and rods are interchangable too(pre '08).

How about the crank halves? Are they 9/12 interchangeable (I think they should be), and what years? For ex there's a 08 crank case for sale on USA ebay, I need to rebuild my 04. Will the crank case work with 04 gubbings?

Twoguns, the primarys are indeed different, but the finals are the same. The transmission ratios are different though.

No, the 08 case will not work with your 04 parts. The oil pump completely changed, 08 and up used better crank bearings. I believe your rods, jugs and heads would interchange though. Also, shift shaft changes, so your primary cover may not work on the 08 case with the 08 shift shaft, I'm unsure if your 04 shift shaft will work with the 08 case.
