This is my 03 Firebolt. I have a Ceramic Coated Race Kit, 07 airbox mod, and a Storz Steering Stabilizer. Its fun....Wish it was a 12...:p

Nice Buell! That's funny, I have a 12 and I wish I had a 9. The power is insane on my 12, but I hate the sound of the factory exhaust and I keep hearing bad stuff about the race kits on the 12. How do you like that Storz steering stabilizer? I really think it would be wise for me to get one of those. [up]

BuellPartsGuy

Trade ya for your 12?....lol. I love the steering stabilizer. When I first got the bike it had the ****ty Dunlop 208's on there and it would headstem shake even if you just let go of the bars, it was bad. Now I can set it down from a wheelie at 75 and not even get the slightest bumpsteer. I will never own another sportbike without one.

As far as the race kits on the 12's, what have you heard that is bad? I have seen quite a few bikes go out the door at the shop with em on over the past year or so and never had any real complaints. The most we have had is come backs for when they are cold they would tend to "hunt" for idle. That was remedied by just hooking it up to digital tech and recalibrating the TPS. That and dumb guys wouldn't let them warm up enough before they thrashed 'em, and they would foul plugs.

I've heard the XB12's ping real bad with the kits and the dealers try to adjust the timing to fix em, but that doesn't always work. I've also heard that even if they do work it doesn't last long before the pinging comes back. What should I expect to pay for a stabilizer? That will be my first mod aside from the custom plastic melted to the exhaust from my jacket lol :D

BuellPartsGuy
11-01-2006, 07:46 PM
I can get the stabilizer for $357.95 retail. I can have it in a few days, but I am just getting it through Parts Unlimited, so you can get it just about anywhere that is a P.U. dealer near you. Storz is a very good quality versus others I have seen.

As far as the pinging, we have had a couple come backs with that complaint (I went back to service and asked them), but it was fixed by setting the timing and re-flashing the ECM. If you dont flash the ECM after you set the timing, it will relearn itself back to a stock timing set-up and pinging will occur again. And hey come on, pinging means lean, and Lean is Mean.....:p lol j/k

Ahhh, no good. I just got done telling you about my melted jacket and right after riding today I thought it would be a good idea to throw my bike cover on. Needless to say it melted to the exhaust. I'll never learn.

BuellPartsGuy
11-02-2006, 01:48 AM
Bummer man. Those covers aren't cheap. I have an idea, put a sticker on your exhaust the says "Caution HOT" then you'll remember...:p lol j/k

buellxb
11-02-2006, 02:29 AM
Actually the cover was cheap. I bought my Buell on eBay and had it shipped. My cover is the nice, soft, free blue cover the trucking company used to protect the bike. I use it in my garage just to help keep extra dust of my bike. I'd like some kind of heat shield or neat looking cover for the pipes.

I have seen some carbon fiber pieces before. I'll see if I can trace them down again and see the cost and who makes em. Most popular thing I have seen is header wrap from cars...

I keep hearing about the airbox mod for 07. What exactly is the mod? I just bought a new aircover that i will be venting in the near future.

buellxb
11-08-2006, 03:35 PM
Good question. I'm not sure, but I've seen airbox covers with slits in them for better air flow. Sort of like a cowl induction hood for a truck or muscle car.

Hi I have an xb9 f bolt almost the same as the one posted .I have a race kit also . But the best thing I did was the air box cover and kit . With the k& n air filter it realy sucks air and it sounds great . On the dino it flatend out the curve and made my bike more responsive . It looks great too with the blue .:D

I would like to buy a used xb12 motor . I am thinking of converting my xb9 . Do you know of anyone who has done this .

BuellPartsGuy
02-16-2007, 07:19 PM
There are companies out there making big bores, but you might have the same amount of money into your engine as you would finding a used 12 engine. You would need ECM, harness, throttle bodies, intake manifold, header, and the whole long block set up. make sure to get a set up with the primary and tranny set up also. It will make your work a lot easier.

hey Buellxb,

i have a 12 and hated the exhaust sound also...that all changed after talking to Kevin at www.kdfab.com and sending him my stock pipe and he did his "econodrummer" conversion on it...there are several Drummer pipes to chose from and if you talk to him and tell him your intentions (more sound, more hp, etc) he will build the pipe like you need it...it was the best mod i have ever done to any bike i have ever had...no one can believe the sound my bike makes now it is absolutely unreal, my only regret was waiting as long as i did to do it. and if you have a service manual, taking the pipe off and re-installing it is a breeze

the first time i fired it up and let it set there and idle after installing it was indescribable.

go to the website, talk to kevin, and do it now...its like getting a whole new bike.

Hey Firechicken, why the filter on the outside as well as the inside? Or did you remove the one on the inside?

firechickenXB9R
06-04-2008, 03:55 PM
I removed the one inside and this one is plummed directly to the throttle body. it gets cold rammed air rihgt at the throttle body. The biggest thang I noticed was the throttle response is way better and it pulls a lot harder then before( had a K&N with a fully modded air box). will try to get pics of it.

a good and easy way to get a complete snake-theme is, if you're going to paint the covers, use thos net-stockings women use.

just spray your base colour, cover the cover with the stocking and spray with a second color...instand snakeskin! ;)

Thanks man, well it was all hand biuld, I used a 100 degree 2.5in elbow then inside I used to 2.5to3in couplerswith a smallpiece of 3in pipe inbetween them. Then i cut the velosity stack to get the 2.5in coupler to be tight. When i redo it i am going to use 2.5in instead of 3in and going to get a 2.5to 1.75in (the intake diameter). the filter is a K&N

First official post in this board, although I have been lurking in the darkest recesses of this place for a while now, digging up some good info and getting some good DIY step by steps together. Here is my '04 XB12R bought it this summer and scavenged for a race kit piece by piece and stripped her of any recognizable emblem, currently gathering every piece of carbon/billet I can get my hands on.

LVsleeper...is that a throttle-meister?

Thaloc
09-15-2008, 07:36 PM
Looks like it. I just looked them up when I read that LeFox and they look like the best "CruiseControl" units for a bike iv seen. 125-140 bones though, just a bit on the spendy side. But this isnt a cheap 'hobby':p

LVsleeper
09-16-2008, 08:39 PM
Yes that is a throttle-meister, I don't do a whole lot of freeway cruising but it does help on those long straight rides.

mitchell5
01-22-2009, 08:09 PM
Thanks guys! I actually made the vents by laying out a pattern, drilling a couple holes and cutting it with a hacksaw. Then I laid in some mesh and used some black silicone to adhere it to the inside of the box. It was a time consuming process but i thought it turned out pretty well. The rearsets were part of a christmas present, $300 on ebay.

Would be overkill IMO, go with black or the stock metalic to match the frame if anything[up]

yeah extreme, I think black would look better as well, but the anodizing would be DIY project and I have read black isn't too successfull. ALTHOUGH, I did read bleach can remove the dye...Hell I might just jump into it one day

Great shots marco--i see you have been playing with filters in your photo software as well. One can do some great stuff with them. I noticed the black plastic around your headlights turned grey as did mine. I had those replaced via warrenty, but prior to replacement what hooked them up was Mothers "back to black" creme. Put it on n let it sit, buff back to black. Works on my turn signals as well--they start greying out due to the sun.

Thanks for the tip Flyeboy. I hit them with some Turtle Wax Ice this weekend. They look pretty good. I'd love to get the carbon fiber replacements too...but they are $$$$. I'll try the Mothers.

Thought i would show you my bike this is a pic of it the day after i bought it. Since then i have done new foot pegs, removed belt guards, frame pucks, right side scoop and quick release seat pins. The header pipe is one that i had gotten ready by ceramic coating it for one i was goin to get a month before but the deal fell through, so i threw it on the night i bought it. i have pics on my profile but when i went to "add your photo" it would only let me choose from my two "stock" pictures.

I am deployed right now and I have all these big plans For my bike. I also have to do some tinkering on the wife's bike ( 1983 kawasaki gpz 305).

Glad to see Slavic soul mate;) among foreign country Buellers (though I feel like at home:) here where all are united by a passion for Buell). Once I saw a brick garage, immediately understood "our man": D. Whereever I have been in the world I haven't seen such garages (type) anywhere:D. And of course ambulance car, "Gaz" at the sixth photo:)

How long do you have Bull? Frankly speaking, I do not have one[sad]. Not enough money. Hard to collect enough. Here in Ukraine customs clearance (Duties/taxes) is rather difficult - they want a lot of money. If one could buy for example 2004 XB9 bike, for $ 3500, then the cost of customs clearance will amount to $ 3000 plus shipping itself for 1000/1500$. At the end we have $ 8000. E-eh-s-s ...
There is an option to buy the same bike without any documents for $ 3000-3500, but I don't want to regularly have problems with traffic police. All the more if the bike is stolen, I am not the one to ride on someone's tears.

What about Customs in your country? People say you have it easier.

It seemed to me that some non-stock muffler is installed on your bike ;)

over here waiting for customs clearance can either 01/01/2011 or 01/07/2011 will be about how you do.
I have it for 4 years gone, all remade himself, caught on the chain, dyed, exhaust, etc. Slowly pull on the Japanese:)

09bolt, where did you get your turn signals? I like. are they plug and play? i don't want to mess with the LED and wiring stuff as i am not good with it. just want some lower profile than the stock ones. let me know. thanks. Or anyone for that matter if you know of where i can find shorter, lower profile plug and play non-LED turn signals. let me knwo. i have been looking forever but like i said, not good with electric so not looking to splice wires or add diodes or anything. just want a little cleaner look.

Mine are r6/r1 led flush mounts off of ebay, they are only $12-15 shipped. All you need to make them work is a ep36 led flasher from Advance Auto or any auto part store.

If you look up at vtech's pics he did the scg rear shock and slipped the forks. If you are looking to go the cheaper route.

Every time I see your bike(since the S tail) makes wonder about my Diesel tail lift ..... but my GSX-R tail light is at the right angle with my tail lift ..... feel like trying it without though

oh9bolt

I was torn on the tail before I got the S tail, I love the lines of the bike and now think that it throws off the natural lines of the bike. Example: the chin fairing headers have a Natural sweeping angle that follows the lines of the tail. I love both looks just prefer the non lifted tail now that I own one.

http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/520_20110315175647_L.jpg

Kinda good example, I dont agree with the tail lift line in this pic though that only applied to a really short exhaust.if you take off the tail lift the rails follow the green lines and give the bike a aggressive look especially when combined with CG suspension and a Firebolt fairing.

IMO

Very nice Sirius, yours? I'm considering that exact chop on mine. I love the stubby rear, makes the back tire look bigger to me. And by leaving the Firebolt front on, it makes the bike look like its moving forward while sitting still.

Sirius815
12-30-2013, 04:25 PM
Yes mine. The bottom pic is the more current one. Like the chop xbs tail on mine a lot, but there's definitely some spray off the back tire that hits you.

More subtle mods are the shortened upper belt guard and cut out the center of the bottom one. Not sure what I want to do with the front pulley cover yet. Sold the 50dro cover and put the stock one (albeit painted) back on for now.

oh9bolt
02-28-2017, 02:54 PM
On the 09's with the ZTL2 it was rerouted that way due to a recall, 10's were routed that way from the factory.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2009/BUELL/XB12R#recalls

They offered a fix for the ZTL also when routed behind the fork.

That's cool Chicken! I really like the thinned out rear section. Are you looking for seat braces from an EBR yet? Sexy...

The front is similar to what I did to my STT:up: What diameter headlight is that? Speigler? Got a close-up of how you mounted the stock dash?

Chicknstripn

Thanks Cooter. She's like that one chick we had back in the day.... not the prettiest thing but man does she know what Daddy likes!
I had to manufacture a bracket from some raw .032 aircraft grade aluminum. The mounting is kind of funky but I didn't want to chop into the wire harness anymore than I alresdy did. I'll see if I have any decent pics.
I don't want to buy anything EBR for the tail. I was always enamored with the stock rear subframe and couldn't help myself to expose it. The undertail and upper tail piece were hand made by myself out of fiberglass.
It's still a work in progress. Over tens years I've owned the bike and she will always be a work in progress.

It's an aluminum jardine pipe. I cut it down about 2" shorter than it is from the factory.
The swing arm is the stock 2007xb12r swing arm. The subframe has been cut about 4" in overall length. I think that gives the illusion of a longer swing arm.
