A few of you have one of these, I guess a few more have heard or seen them either in person or videos. Yes, they're loud, but these are some of THE most powerful systems out there for 1125's. XB pipes are showing about a 10% gain just with stock fueling, so there's still room for improvement with them.

Everything is hand built to order with 304 stainless steel, so I typically run several weeks behind. Occasionally I'll stop the ordering process if I get too far behind.

I build for both 1125's and XB's. EBR has an ecm available for the RT-3 and they have the RT-4 in hand now. I will eventually send them both XB pipes when I have spares to send them.

I also modify the stock 1125 exhaust outlets to give a little more sound and re-direct the exhaust away from the wheel & swingarm. This one sounds pretty good without being obnoxiously loud.

Got questions, shoot me a pm or email me at dadams1969@gmail.com

There's 2 different ones pictured, which one do you like? Dual round shells or the single longer oval one?

I'll be giving one up later this year, either an 1125 RT-3 or a RT-XB-3 for an XB. It hasn't been officially announced yet I guess, but it will be one of the giveaways, May is when it happens.

Put my Keda RT-2 on last week with the EBR ECM and love it! Sounds like no other bike out there. The rumble at idle reminds me of a helicopter at idle. Very smooth rumble and a great design that flows perfectly with these bikes!

I chose to paint my exhaust with a high heat primer and silver paint because I am going to wrap it in the next day or so.

Thanks Dean!

Thanks! I like it myself. Notice the vehicle sitting behind the bike? It's an 09 Toyota Tacoma that's speedway blue, the same exact color of my bike. Guess which vehicle I had painted to match the other!:p

Excited to get my Keda exhaust for my XB9. Dean is a very easy guy to work with. Just wish I didn't have to rebuild my motor too. At least when this is all done I will pretty much have a new bike. I will be posting pics when this is all done. Looking forward to not only having a new XB, but being able to put 15-20k on the bike this summer!!!!

Talked to both shops that I go to that have dyno's and they are both broken at the moment. One is supposed to be getting a software upgrade and service reps to come in and fix it (Gateway) and the other has some parts due in next week (Surdyke) so no testing on the xb9 front yet. Maybe next weekend for the dyno if they get it fixed.

how much for the xb pipe?

d_adams
03-11-2012, 01:05 PM
$600 + shipping and whatever extras you want. Dyno results were good, the one above matched the Buell factory race exhaust but still needs more fuel, so more power is there with tuning.

d_adams

No pics as of yet, but I just found a local powder/ceramic coater. I should be able to get different colors, but I know both satin and matte black are available. I need to take a pipe over to get a definite price, but I think it will be under $100 for anything I make.

I'll be updating my website to reflect this soon.

MuSh
03-21-2012, 07:19 PM
So a black RT XB1 will be $600 plus $100 for black coating, $80 to support a chin spoiler, and ~$35 for shipping? Just over $800 out the door...I need to do more saving! [mad]

d_adams
03-22-2012, 05:12 AM
Yeah, that about covers it.

I'll be getting one done in silver (I think) pretty soon since that's what Dave wanted on his. Might get the headers done, that's totally up to him.
With a little luck, I'll have the pipe done in a week or so. I have 3 others ahead of it, so I have a bit of work to do yet.

MuSh
03-26-2012, 07:32 PM
So about how long to get a black rt xb1?

d_adams
03-27-2012, 03:58 AM
Rough guess, 4+ weeks right now. I'm just guessing on the ceramic coat time, but it should only be a few days and the guy is local to me so I can drop off and pick up pretty quick.

All you have to do is find someone with money that needs a testicle, they are more common than you would think. Aside from that, there is always your kidney.

This is for the active military guys/gals out there. Posted it on FB also. If you know of someone thinking about getting an exhaust that's current military, let them know about this.

Memorial day tomorrow, any service member that contacts me for an exhaust gets 10% off the price of any pipe I make. Extras aren't included such as polishing, coating or brackets for chin fairings. If you can't contact me by tomorrow night, don't sweat it, I'll honor it all week. Contact needs to be through your military email for the discount. If you can't get it done this week, just let me know, we'll work it out.

Never really thought about it, just figured I'd do a little extra for the guys that are currently deployed, maybe give them something to look forward to when they get home? I have one brother that's a Marine, not sure where he's at right now but he was over in Afganistan last year.

Sent you a pm also.

Labor Day sale!

www.keda-design.com or http://www.deanadamsdesigns.com/ for anything I make, there's a discount available and it will be automatically applied through this weekend. All you gotta do is pick what you want, add it to the shopping cart and away you go.

Please keep in mind that I do NOT have anything in stock, it's ALL custom built to order, so there is a delay from when you order to when it ships out. I do have some material on hand and have enough to build a couple of systems, but that's all. There isn't much of a backlog at this time, so the wait won't be too bad unless I get a lot of orders from this. If you want a specific time frame, ask and I'll give my best estimate based on the current number of orders to be filled.

Please make sure to add any comments to your order, such as outlet type and angle, finish (polished or coated) or any extras that you may want.

Ooooooh HOT DAMN that was fun! Went ahead and got insurance, had it inspected, spent some quality time at the DMV as well. Anyway, got to get in a short bit of a ride and other than a slight hesitation at 2200-2500 rpm, it runs pretty good. Roll on's were pretty smooth, felt like it had plenty of power. I checked with xtremelow, it's still got a stock ecm/map, so there's power to be had in it. No dyno yet and I doubt I'll ever get a good baseline out of it since it's got 30k+ on the clock.

Guess the only major thing I'll have to get soon is a new battery, the trip meter and clock keep resetting back to 1:00 and 0 miles. Odometer is going up as it should, so that's a plus.

Awesome...I will be purchasing an RT-XB1 in a couple months. How much does it normally cost for someone to tune your bike?

d_adams
09-30-2012, 11:43 PM
No dyno with this setup yet.

I've always just sent stuff direct to EBR for tuning, it's close enough for me when I get it back. They do take a while to get them done though.

d_adams
10-01-2012, 11:39 AM
WOW, what a RUSH!!! I forgot how quick this thing is since I've been riding the xb. Air/fuel looks to be damn close, both cylinders were at 12:1 during WOT. Got into the ”Go straight to jail” speed in the blink of an eye.

d_adams
10-06-2012, 03:36 PM
Not quite as high as I'd hoped, but my 1125 did start out at 122 hp at the wheel.

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu151/dadams1969/exhaust%20stuff/Full%20system/IMAG1516.jpg

139 hp, 89 ft/lbs of torque.

Loki
10-06-2012, 06:36 PM
You lost power?

d_adams
10-06-2012, 07:24 PM
No, mine started out lower. EBR's dyno bike started higher (129 maybe) and made 143 so it's a 12.5% gain on their dyno, or 14 hp.

Mine baselined at 122 or 123 hp. It's at just shy of 140 now, so figure it's at least a 14-15% gain with the headers on my bike specifically. It really depends on where it starts at and how much of an improvement you see. I'll take 18 hp for what I've put into it. It may not look as pretty as their system, but it's just as functional and a little less expensive to boot. I will modify it slightly on the next one to make it easier to line stuff up, but it works for now.

Mine hadn't matched EBR's numbers even with the ecm/pipe combo, it's always been lower by 6-7 hp at least. Might be the way it was broken in, who knows. Eventually I'll get the 1190 piston kit and see what it makes, the headers are good for it.

Loki
10-07-2012, 06:45 AM
yeah thats a good gain either way. i just want to hit that 140hp to the ground mark and thats all i care about. I cant wait for them to release a kit, im surprised they havent yet and will be super pissed if they dont plan on it. I even want the throttle body they have so i can get quicker revs.

It almost seems stupid in my opinion for a company that is trying to make money to build more bikes to refuse to sell a kit that would sell out like crazy for people to upgrade their old 1125's

d_adams
10-20-2012, 04:07 PM
Bump for a 5% discount on any system available, this includes the 1125 stock muffler mod. Send me a pm, let me know what you want and include "BUELLXB" in the message. I will send back an invoice. Make sure to include your email address. This will be available for several weeks, possibly longer.

Christmas is coming, so in the interest of getting ahead of the curve on this, I'll be running an early sale.

Standard prices.

1125 slip-on's.

RT-3 $550 + shipping
RT-4 $900 + shipping

XB slip-on.

RT-XB-1 $600 + shipping
XB headers $475 shipped

I'll be doing 10% off, but when I hit 6+ weeks backlog again, ordering gets turned off. If that happens too quickly for everyone who wants one to get in, just send me a message to get put on the wait list. I am currently at about 2-3 weeks from an order to building it.

To get the discount, send your paypal address and what you want, I'll send back an invoice with the discounted price. Shipping in the US is $35, message me for quotes outside of the US, it varies by country.

1125 slip-on's.

RT-3 $550 + shipping ($495 + ship)
RT-4 $900 + shipping ($810 + ship)

XB slip-on.

RT-XB-1 $600 + shipping ($540 + ship)
XB headers $475 shipped ($425 shipped)

Polishing or coating won't be discounted since I don't normally do either in-house.

So, a few guys have tried ordering chin fairing brackets from Jardine after I gave up on getting them and passing them on. I've had several more ask why I quit offering them, it's because they were hard to get ahold of and the new company didn't seem to care about getting them out. Anyway, several more people asked why I didn't make them, now it's finally at the point where I figured I'd at least try to make a set. Obviously these are not finished yet, but progress has been made. I will try getting them bent the rest of the way today if I get time, but I need a chin fairing to test fit on to the bike with since I sold mine last year. Anybody in STL that wants to bring one out? Dave, I know you said you didn't mind, but I also realize it's a bit of a drive for you in this snow we just got.

Anyway, here's the uncoated version, still needs some bending done. If I get them bent today, I'll be going to the powdercoater to get a quote for them in black only.

I've been working on this for a couple of days, it's a bit more complex than the first one I did. EBR's pipe is in metric, mine are standard instead since it's harder to find mandrel bent metric tubing over here. I think the ID measurement is within .025" or so of theirs.

I'm sure many otherd have asked this but where does the name keda come from.. the exhausts are stamped dean Adams designs. But where is keda from..

d_adams
06-23-2013, 01:36 AM
I had a machinist guy making parts for me, seemed like the thing to do at the time to include his initials as part of it. So, it was ke (ken edmunson) and da (dean adams) designs, thus, keda-designs. I guess it took maybe 5-6 months and he was done making the parts and didn't want to make any more. I had other ideas and the exhaust stuff just kinda took off, especially after the shootout in 2010. I could have subbed out the spools and tail tidy to another machine shop, but didn't really feel like persuing it. I've got my hands pretty full now as it is.

I had a bunch of tags made up back then, maybe 50 at a time. I don't remember when I switched it over to just my name, but it was within the last year I guess, so if it's got just my name on it, it's a newer or more recent pipe.

I'm happy to report that after 14-15k miles and who knows how many trips to redline I've made, along with several trips to the dyno that it's apparently still the same amount that I'd put in back in early May of 2012.

Shawns, yes, that's the serial number. I'm at 184 now, so it's about 3 years old. Anything earlier than yours puts it in early 2010, pre-exhaust shootout. The only thing I build that doesn't get serial numbers is headers, I haven't figured out a good spot to put a tag yet, so none of them have gotten it.

Posting pics can be done either by uploading them here to buellxb directly in your photos section or host them elsewhere (like google+) and then use the image tag like you tried to do.

Killing me. I have been asking person after person on craigslist (across the US) if they would be willing to part out their KEDA and EBR ECM for the last 4 months. NOBODY WILL PART THEM OUT! I want your exhaust so bad for my 1125cr but when it comes down to $800 total for my bike (RT3+ECM), or $1300 Cat-Back for my car I unfortunately have to go with my car :( This makes me sad. Amazing work Dean

Holy ****! (Sorry dean for thread jack) what cat back system did you get for what car for 1300 dollars. That's steep! I paid 525 for my magnaflow cat back on my truck and that's a dual exhaust.
Also. Just hold off on the ECM till later. 550 isn't asking much for what you get. I can't even look at my bike anymore with out smiling, now when I start it, my cheeks start hurting. It's just how these bikes should sound. Period.

Original posts are here, I think you have to register to view pics there though. Bike only started with 77 hp, yes it's an xb12. Not sure why it's as low as it is, but managed to put out an 8% gain. The headers are stock size for a 12, so there's no real expectation of a performance gain with them.

Made some changes last week. Partially upgraded the front brake with a used ZTL2 caliper, need to swap out the line and possibly the master cylinder later. Changed to translucent orange plastics. Had to put a stock exhaust on it for now since I want to ride it and don't have time to build myself another one at the moment with all the orders. More later.

Hey there Dean, I know for a fact that bikes get super jelly if one is being ridden and the other one is left all alone:(. I'm sure that yellow one doesn't get out much... Actually, the yellow one has about 1100 more miles on it, the xb9 has made it all of 1 mile so far this year. I was riding my 1125 more than anything until I sold it last weekend. That will change soon enough, waiting on new brake lines for it that I ordered last night. Trying to teach my son about some maintenance things while he still listens to me, this is one of them.

5+ weeks right now. Sorry, I wish I could build these faster, but it's just not happening. I did order a air over hydraulic pump for my tubing expander a week ago to see if that helps any for the 1125 stuff but it hasn't shown up yet. I had a somewhat irate mother call and ask why I hadn't delivered after 2 weeks. I had to disappoint her a little more and let her know that I wouldn't get started for at least another week and that I'd ship it as soon as I could. It was that or send her the money back. I assume her son (the one that wanted the pipe to begin with) told her to wait a little longer. I just shipped that one last Saturday. I think I have approximately 9 or 10 systems to build right now and I average 2 a week. I'm going as fast as I can without compromising quality.

Dean.....never compromise quality. I know you won't. I deal with this at work sometimes. It's not the quality that would be sacrificed just the finished look which I'm unwilling to let go.

Build as you can and keep your quality and your name will be forever good. I'd say I could help you out but I don't have jigs for your stuff and I'm no where near you to come to you and build stuff for you

These are FAR from perfect, I'm getting old (borderline ancient to some) and shake some. I just do the best I can. I've said it before, there are guys (some I know personally) that can weld circles, squares, whatever around me. I go for solid. I may be a little heavy handed sometimes, but typically my stuff doesn't break. I've seen a few that were crashed (very hard) and the welds didn't break at all. Massive dents, flattened out pipes, but no breakage. There were a couple very early on that did from frequency vibrations, but there haven't been any that I'm aware of in the last 175 pipes or so.

I would have to agree (although my opinion also means jack). I like your pipes because they are the best looking exhausts available for the 1125. For me and my bike, my preference goes:
1. Appearance
2. Sound
3. Performance

For that pipe to be worth it it had better have some HUGE performance gains :)

Sure looks like an 1190 RX to me, but I've been known to be wrong before. Yeah, the angles are a little different on mine than theirs are, but I'm trying to work within the confines of the stock bodywork, so it is what it is.

[up][up][up] i see the EBR comparison (cycleworld) against the Panigale and the Panigale has an underslung exhaust which Erik pioneered, while the 1190 has a monster, ugly-ass can hung off of it.

Just curious does the longer exhaust retain the stock underslung or are you deleting that and moving it further back with this setup? The can further back on the rx is a wave muffler to cut out on droning and supposedly helps top-end power.

The only thing left is the headers from the stock setup. Pretty sure the quarter wave section is for low and mid-range, not top end. It's also for noise control, the rx does it exceptionally well, I think they stated that it's quieter than any other out there for the displacement. It's also frickin HEAVY at 25.75 lbs. The long one I posted weighs 12.25 lbs, the shorty is 8.5 lbs.

The answers I got back from EBR (on the tuning front) is that the traction control system is difficult to program for. I'd rather just run without electronic aids myself, if I get a little wheel spin, so be it. Get me the software and ecm to do it, I'll run with it. I have access to a dyno and a track if I really need it, both are 40 minutes away from the house.

d_adams
07-15-2014, 12:33 AM
Pegram's bike is AMA superbike, May's is WSBK. The long pipe setup is a little quieter, but not by a lot. Some tracks won't allow the loud exhaust, some do, Assen was the first track they had to make the change and the WSBK bikes have just stayed with the long pipe setup. I don't know why Pegram had it on his this round, he'd been running the standard race kit prior to last weekend from what I'd seen.

Got my RT-3 installed and took it for a short ride yesterday... The sound is just a tad bit deeper than the FMF exhaust it had on it previously, but sounds much, much meaner. I haven't had much of a chance to really get on the throttle yet because my registration is lapsed, and I don't want to get pulled over, but so far, me likey! I am sure the neighbors love me now that I just sit out and listen to it idle in the driveway. I should get everything registered this next weekend and then I will take it out for a true test ride.
