I have a 2007 former Rider's Edge Blast. I paid $270 for the 1000 mile service and am up to 2200 miles less than a month later. It seems a bit steep to pay $125 for basically an oil change, when everything was checked last time. I was thinking of doing it myself and then take it in for the 5000 mile service sometime in the early fall.

What would you old schoolers recommend?

Oh, and what about the tires? somewhere b/t 2000 and 4000?

i would advise useing a service manual if you do. and there will be a section for service intervals in the manual and what needs to be replaced or inspected on those givin intervals.

The dealership has a handy dandy reference card with all that they do for each service. On this one the only fluid change is oil and filter. The rest is check belt tension, check throttle cable, stuff like that. Since I bought the bike in June it has spent a total of over 4 weeks in the shop, so I really don't want to take it in again....

Thanks ez, that's what I was hoping to hear. The instructor @ the Rider's Edge class said as much but I wasn't sure in the first couple miles.

Yeah just change the oil and filter and you are well on your way. Those other things don't need to be checked that often.
