The paint was only $100 for everything. Then you need a spraygun and a air source. Their are some really good videos out that will get you going then its just practice. The best painters in the world had to start somewhere and had to learn just like everyone else.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with my airbox, how much of a pain in the butt was it? It was not bad just very tedious to get it all straight because the plastic is a little hard to work with so it took a little bit to get it right.

So there I was B@||$ deep in boredom..when suddenly..kickass mod man, in all seriousness [up] I don't think I could ever do something that cool with paint..I'm artistically retarded in the worst way.

Cool....I do have access to all that stuff. It is just mainly doing all the prep work and what not...What did you do?

I've been reading up on it. Some people say you have to add something to the paint for it stick to the plastic and not come off from vibrations. Others say you don't.

I'm assuming you wet sand it down with 400 grit or less paper. Then clean with some type of alcohol. Then what "primer, if you need it" do you use? After that you paint and then do sometype of clear coat?

Is this close at all?

Thanks everyone.

Buellysses, I forgot to mention that if you open up both boxes It gets loud, You can hear the throttle open up and its akin to having a open exhaust. I wear ear plugs so It does not bother me but FYI before you do.

I used Kustom shops Hot Rod Flatz paint Kustom Shop (http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/) , they sell a flat clear coat but I did not use any Once its cured its go to go.
Prep work I started with a wax stripper you can get from any autoparts store and then used 220 to dull the plastic out then I wiped it down with acetone. You can get a additive plastic adhesion promoter and a flex additive if you want. I used Krylon Fusion Primer, Its made for plastic and sticks well. I put a few very light coats on and let dry then wet sanded with 220. I did this step twice second time I wet sanded with 400. Make sure you don't sand in circles, straight lines only.
Using the Hot Rods Flatz you dont need to go down any farther than 400. It loads like a Primer if your going that way. If you want shiny thats a different story ( lots more prepwork involved.) Make sure the primer is good and dry for a few days then wash it all down with mild soap and hot water. Let dry and your ready to paint. The hardest part is keeping the dust down when your spraying. So make sure you blow down the area your spraying in and If you want wet the floors down It will help with the dust. You will need good ventilation to clear the air and a good Resperator. I use a 3M, you can pick them up at autoparts stores or Lowe's carries them. If you have any questions just ask.

I really like the way that looks, and I usually dont like the orange and black combo(harley)... Great job though you made it look sweet.

Let us know how that paint handles chemicals like gas and car wash solution, I'm curious since it doesnt have a clear coat...

Old post but thanks anyway. Its over a year now and Its holding up just fine. The paint was made to work with out a clear coat or top coat. I added some pin striping a few weeks ago. I wiped it down with acetone before I striped it and the tone did not pull any color.
