I'm currenty playing around with many different things, but this is how it looks so far. Bought it back in June, with 200 miles on the odometer. Today it had 2500, and counting.

I went to Lowe's and bought a can of paint that matched ($10), and some really thin brush's. Saved lots of $$ compared to buying paint pens. The only problem is, you have to re-apply it often. But, this will let me know when it's time to change the tires, because the tread will wear in the middle, and the yellow line will break.

I like the treads but you will get to the tread wear markers way before the yellow paint(your tire will be toast way before you wear the paint)

No it wont, because the paint comes off after just a bit or riding. It wont affect the tires like you think, if I were to ride it for 3 days and not re-apply the yellow would be gone. So the tread life is not shortened.

74nova,

(Quoting the Service Manual: "Treadwear indicator bars will appear on tire tread surfaces when 1/32 in. (0.8 mm) or less of tire tread remains. Arrows on tire sidewalls pinpoint location of wear bar indicators. Always remove tires from service before they reach the treadwear indicator bars (1/32 in. [0.8 mm] tread pattern depth remaining)."

This is all assuming that you still have the stock tires on, and since the wear indicators will be found on the middle of the tire, they will show long before they reach your painted or un-painted tire "channels".

I think what he's saying is that he'll know because he's down there painting all the time. So he's got a close personal relationship with his tires. Good thing, most important thing on a motorcycle, next to brakes.

Those tires appear to be Metzlers.
Sport Tech M-1's I me thinks...
Latex paint won't hold when the tires spin...
A paint pen would work better.

The tires are just stock.

Paint pens suck because you can't get down into the tread, atleast the ones that I first bought did. But now, the paint is primarily removed due to the high amount of riding I do. So only the outside still has fresh paint, most of the paint on the middle treads have been coming off for some time now. (just like I first said it would)
