Hey Guys, I just puchased a 2007 Buell XB12S. The question I have is this... after a nice ride, I noticed that the fan appears to stay on for a good 5 minutes or so after I shut the bike off.

Im pretty new to riding, and have been practicing on a R6 and never noticed anything like that. Im sure this is just a superb noob question, but just wanted to know if that was normal for a Buell

Absolutely normal. It stays on until the rear head temp sensor says it's cooled down to an acceptable level so you don't coke-up the oil in the head.

You will prolly see that the fan wont run as long after the bike is broken in.

Yes. Normal.
One more thing about heat. This bike is the hottest I have ever had as far as heat under the seat and on my legs. Has anyone tried one of those underseat heat-shields from Special OPS? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

This is just my opinion on the heat shields but I think that if they block off the cut out areas on the side of the seat than they will actually cause the heat to build on the rear head while riding because it won't have as much area to escape. No real world experience here just trying to use a little logic. I have heard though that getting a right-side air scoop will get more air to the rear head and cause the fan to run less.

if you want less heat from the rear, do not shield it off and make the already warm rear cilinder even warmer...it's not good for the engine.

use a rh airscoop.

Thanks for the replies. Where do I get a rh airscoop? Easy to install?
Thanks again.
