Hi all!
My girlfriend got an interest to ride her own so we looked at a blast and she loved it so now we own a 2008 blast. After riding it around myself for awhile these little bikes are fun!

Anywho right now we are limited to tearing up parking lots and dead end roads while i get her comfortable riding a bit until she takes the MSF course and gets her license. She never rode a motorcycle before this and she is having difficulty understanding shifting. I think if she had a tach and even a shift or gear indicator it would benefit her learn... hell i'd like it too! Does anyone know of anything that works well with the blasts? I'm having little luck locating anything.

Thanks everyone!

Tach is somewhat easy, but gear indicator is something I am unfamiliar with.

Pretty much any tach that will work with a single cylinder engine. Make sure it says that its compatible from 1-12 cylinders (thats how they usually label it). I found that the Equus are the easiest to find, and look decent.

I believe models 6068, 7068, 8068, and 8080 will work.

Without an aftermarket ignition you will have to install it via the spark plug wire. You will also have to find a mounting point.

Here is what the black 6068 looks on my bike:

I run this one from glow shift tach (http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/black-7-color-tachometer-gauge.aspx)

Works great, the different color led's are kinda neat. I got power from the head light and the tach signal from the pink wire going to the coil.

What ignition are you running and what did you end up using to mount it?

I need to get rid of my TTO, and get a real one!

Thanks!

Stock ignition. I used a piece of U channel aluminum with holes drilled to match the speedometer screws and to match the studs for the tach. That was the first mount for it. I later cut a pice of sheet aluminum that attaches to the same speedometer bolts that attaches the tach and wide band o2 sensor on opposite sides of the speedometer. I'll take some pictures later and post them.

Pierce, do you have any more pics of your bike? I really like the fairing.

Cool thanks for the recommendation Pierce! I'll do some more research on those. Not sure where i could mount one though.

I came across GIpro digital gear indicators and i'm not mechanically savvy enough to know if this would work on a blast or not. Putting in the bike info in their little bike configuration it came back with this set to get... which is "universal". Anyone had any experience with this?

Not sure on the gear indicator. Looks like it might though. Would be interested in hearing about the results.

I think there is a somewhat easy what of mounting an M2 dash on the blast which would fit both the tach and the speedo. Check around it can't be that expensive, or hard to mount.

Yeah if i knew it is compatible i would buy it and definitely do a write up... or just be on here begging for help most likely... :)

Thanks EZ! i guess if i did get a tach do you have any good recommendations on where to put it? im not sure of a good spot to mount it without it getting in the way of something else...

Buy an M2 dash and mount it somehow. Shouldn't be too hard, and i've seen it done before can't remember where.

EZ would know.

Holy crap now thats what i'm talking about! Nice! Thanks a bunch Stang181! Is that a gear indicator you have on your bars? If so what kind is it?

Stang181

Not a gear shift indicator! I forgot to mention I don't have a clue on that but would like to know lol

That is a dyno tune a/f meter, it displays the data in milli volts

I am actully going with a trail tech vapor for a speedo tach oil temp and odometer in one unit, it has other functions like a stop watch ambient temp and a clock too.
I'm going to keep this dash set up just in case I don't end up liking the trail tech but so far it has impressed me and I will have room for a oil pressure gauge that I have been wanting

I powder coated it the dash just last month too, I guess I'm having a hard time tossing my dash that took me so long to finish as it was raw aluminum for almost 2 years lol ohh well the trail tech is alote in a small unit so I really like it

I really like that one. I ordered one. I'd love to see pics of your dash.

Nice looking set up Stang and Pierce!

I just got my SE ignition and it has a dedicated tach wire, I wonder if I can use that or have to splice into the pink coil wire.

Anyone know?

Yup you can use the one from the ignition! I have one on each right now lol trail tec and that set up

I'm having alot of trouble finding a tach that will support a 1 cylinder engine...

pierce

Kyle, you need to be a better comprehensive reader. In my post I point out specific brands and model #'s that work, and then EZ posted a link showing just about every known compatible tach. What more do you want?

Furthermore, a simple spark multiplier from Baker Electronics will allow you to use almost ANY tach.

Not that I would know firsthand about that...

Asked Dan at NRHS if he ever considered making dashes for the blast to accomodate tachs

He was considering it if there was enough interest.

I really like this one.

Heh I wish it would be that easy Stang but i do not have any tools or devices that could fabricate that... lets not even talk about skill to do it either... [smirk]

I would definitely buy something clean looking that would fit for a premium price however.

I may sell mine for the right price lol

NRHS is thinking about it, and Banke performance will fabricate a dash as well(you have to send a drawing, as they do not do it now). I do not know the cost. Banke performance will powder coat it black if you want as well.

Stang181

I do powder coating as well

StAng!!

For the love of pete! How much to make the above f
Dash( 2" tach) lmao!!!

Before i make one that looks like a 3rd grader did it. Lol

Arkitek

sure yeah Stang I would be interested. Let me know what a price would be if you fabricate a few.

Stang181
04-25-2012, 10:11 AM
Well I would sell this one i have on my bike with the equus tach to the highest bidder lol jk!
I would want the tach in hand to fab up a dash for a 2 inch tach,
Don't think I'll buy them to fab up and sell but if someone buys one then cant then I'll do it for them for pretty much nothing! nullhttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/12693_20120418104904_L.jpg

Well if you made a kit with the dash and tach that would sound even better! Serious just let me know how much you think you would run as a cost for that.

I put the glowshift GS-710 in this weekend. Mount is lame( I made it), but the tach is great!

Hoepfully Dan @ NRHS decides to fab real dashes for the masses =)

1709 miles? That thing has barely been ridden. In two years I have put on roughly 14K on mine and I only ride it locally.

Daali
05-01-2012, 10:11 AM
hehehe. I picked it up last aug/sept with 187 miles. It was a rider's edge bike more than likely.

I alternate daily from sportster to blast. Short ride to work =)

It should last you a long time. Very low miles on that bike.

Just put a GlowShift Tach on mine. Mounted it directly to the existing odometer mount. Used one of the plastic casing mounts that the tach came, attached it with a rivet gun.front view: http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/11592_20120806124617_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/11592_20120806124742_L.jpg back view , Sorry photos are a little blurry
