Hey im new here, but had a question.
Does anyone have the spec's on the tail lift kit, perhaps size dementions of all the pieces. I have access to all the tools to make this kit "i think" and was wanting to build a few of these kits and possibly sell the to the guy's here on buellxb. To keep from ordering them from euroland. If anyone has any info please let me know.

Roccodart440

Does the tail lift affect handling and or rider position? More so I am interested in the handling

shaggnater
10-22-2008, 12:59 AM
IT only affects the rider position, But with an altered position it could possibly change the handling. But in the whole scheme of things it doesn't change your suspension at all

Roccodart440
10-22-2008, 02:08 AM
WOudl you say it is more uncomfortable. For example, it would be harder to ride 50-60 miles straight with or without a tail lift?

typeone
10-22-2008, 05:16 PM
you will be pushed into the 'tank' more due to the angle in the seat. how much more depends on body position, physical make-up, bar and peg height.

i feel my jacked tail less when i'm riding aggressive than when i'm cruising. some would probably call it uncomfortable, yes.

shaggnater

so does anyone have any info on this product?? diagrams or size dimensions?

10-27-2008, 06:50 AM
Hey guys If you dont know about these guys check them out! www.trojan-horse.co.uk Thay have so many products for our bikes. Only down side is the prices are kinda high and I ordered like 3 weeks ago and still havnt got it.... Reason is my clutch lever is on back order. But over all so far so good.

I had a buddy of mine in Switzerland give them a call... cost for their brackets are about $300 after the exchange rate.... kinda pricey but are a more solid looking piece than the trojan horse one.
I have asked already to people who have put on the trojan kit and say there are a few gaps once fitted.
Would be nice to get dimensions for then so if you have use of equipment to actually make them.
Kinda sad that we have to shop in Europe for parts for a bike built here.
Oh well.

Hey shaggnater did you ever come up with a way of making the tail lift? Or anyone?

RyBuell
06-19-2009, 05:58 AM
I;m currently working on developing my own tail lift similar to the solid one available from trojan-horse.
I've got preliminary measurement and a plug that works made out of wood...now i just have to have it cast and dod the finish work...id be more than happy to post pics when I'm done, however im working at a snails pace these days.

I made these for the tail out of some steel I had laying around. I intend to cover them with some shaped alloy sheet or get a mate to make some fibreglass covers.

Why do you have 3 holes instead of 2? And also how many mm's are the holes apart from one another?

yorkshirelad
06-21-2009, 05:28 PM
This is just a prototype, the bracket I had laying around already had the 3 holes in.Its probably a bit too high as well, but as this is not the finished product I can still work on this. Does anybody have an original to let me know the correct distance between holes? I put these photos up to show just how easy these are to make.If you look closely enough I think you will find a lot of parts are achievable at home in the garage with a bit of time and effort.I live in the UK where Trojan Horse are based but I will not pay the silly prices they charge if I can make the item for myself or source someone who will.

Ok so here is what i came up with over the weekend. I used the PM lift photos as a model but in the end mine will be different.
I made the piece out of wood, and when I finally get the shape down I will have it cast in alumium.
let me know what you guys think so far.

How does it fix in place?
Whats the distance between the frame and tail at the lowest part?

RyBuell
06-22-2009, 11:06 PM
Fixes in place with a bolt from the inside of the frame into the spacer.

This one started out as 7/8 in the rear and 5/8-1/2 up front..but as I started to fit it in place id say I took about an 1/8 off all around.

The dimensions for this thing are tricky tricky..what id really like to is get some measureemnts from someone who already has the lift though.

only1reds
06-22-2009, 11:26 PM
If between the frame and rear struts bolted and highlights the The rear by approximately 80mm, so as with most other Hecklifter kits too.

2 x stainless steel screws M8x30

2 x Polystop nuts M8

Hopefully this helps

Thanks fore the help..unfortunatly in in the stage where i need a machinest who works for beer. I think i have a working model and all the specs on paper, now I just need to take it to the next level and have it cast or cnc'd. Updates and pics to follow...hopefully.

Hopefully? you sounds as you are giving up.

When you cast these little spacers make a dozen or so cause I sure as **** know I would buys set I can make the simple ass bracket but the filler plate is something all different in nature.

Definitly keep us updated.

Hey guys, new to this forum am currnetly looking at purchasing an xb12s. Have noticed some talk about the rear tail lift kits and am very interested. Ive looked at pm and sent a message but to no avail. Just wondering if there are any other avenues i can explore, only problem is im located in sydney, australia and as far as i know have not seen any lift kits here. Would really appreciate the help.

robg
07-07-2009, 02:11 AM
What is the maximum lift you can attain, ive seen specs on trojan for their subframe spacing and there giving a 90mm lift, is this as good as it gets or wil other brands give a higher lift

xtremelow
07-07-2009, 03:25 AM
I believe the 90mm lift Trojan claims is for the Firebolt tail lift which has the longer tail, thus a larger lift at the tip of the tail with the same size tail bracket.

Thanks for your reply xtremelow, im a bit confused thou, are you able to check this link out for me and tell wether this is a good option for the lift. I would rather the pm performance part as it looks much easier. Also would you know of anyway to get the pn performance lift.

I wouldn't personally spend the added cash for the pm lift, it may be easier but at the same time it coat nearly $100 more.

Trojan-Horse sells the same kit you showed above but it is a few bucks cheaper.

Either way I would go with the kit you are looking at not the PM, you may want to compare shipping since they are both coming from the UK and you may be able to save $30 or so if you shop around.

RyBuell
07-07-2009, 04:08 PM
Update: I have both sides done now: in wood of course. But now im having to either have them cast or have them machined...I believe that my finished wood part is good enough to reroduce, but I'm uncertain which direction to go..any thoughts? cast or machined? Also, this part gives your tail the 90mm lift, just the saem as the other lift kits out there.

BTW, i had to remake all of my parts, due to the fact that my original pieces we too over engineered, and eventually broke down due to overworking.

Thanks Reds.

I have 2 styles going..the first is basically the same as the PM lift. the Second is just a spacer with a cover.

The PM style one is where I'm spending all of my time. I don think it necassarily makes a whole lot of difference what the material is out of because if you look close the rear subframe doesnt even touch the front fame area when its bolted in place..that being said...I'm open to suggestion as far as material goes. Does anyone do CAD work?

RyBuell,
Any update on the solid tail lift pieces (similar to the ones from pM Performance)? I really want to get a set, but I am hoping you are going to be able to provide them locally and at a better price. Please let us know the status and keep me in mind when they are ready. I definitely want a set ASAP!
Thanks

Sorry for the delay of an update here: Currrently I have both sides in wood, mock-up. I still cant invest the time or money in having these machined or cast right now, so unfortunalt this is where i stop tryin to push this project forward. The other problem right now is that I just moved out to South Dakota (thats wher all my crap is) but im living in LA for the time being..so thats another problem. The wooden mock up wasnt hard at all to make, just some wood and alot of refining the design, but overall it was pretty easy. After that like I said you'ne need someine to machine them or cast them to get them into metal. I'm sorry that I wasnt able to come through on this. I plan on picking it up again for a winter project when i move permanently out to Dakota, i think it'll be a good winter project. I'd be morethan happy to answer nay questions..email me.

Depending on how many people are interested.. My dad is a CNC machinist/teacher. I have access to all the machines needed to make a set. It would take a lot of time making prototypes and fitting and programming.. Stainless is not cheap either lol. If enough people want them, I'm sure he would be willing to give it a try. My bike, xb12s, has the spacers from trojan horse. That could be the guide for the angle (if everyone is happy with that angle) I guess i would be limited to only the 12s owners, assuming the ss and 12r subframes are different (i never looked close enough at them to see) What do you guys think?

(ps. I am not trying to jack RYbuells thread or anything, just saying that if he cant do it, i might be able to)

Hey sk8ace... if you do ever get some nice pieces cast, I want one. My home brew tail lift works great but I never built anything to cover the gap. Mostly due to laziness and the fact that it doesn't really bother me. Anyway, I would buy one if you made them.

I'm from Europe, but I wrote them in english, they answered the same day stating I should buy them from twinmotorcycles.nl, which I did. Had them 2 days later.
Maybe you can ask them if they will ship to the US. I can always try to be a middle man if not, if you trust me ofc ;)

I had the tail lift from DCC-Germany.com, they're good, just not worth $100, well none of them are no matter where you buy them from.

You are basically paying $100 for 2 Fiberglass covers, 2 oversized washers, 2 bolts, and 2 nuts.

Edit: Oh did I mention "STAINLESS STEEL".

All can be bought from home depot for under $20.

Abs
11-23-2009, 08:21 AM
I had made a set myself at home out of stainless but didnt have the covers.. But all the others I looked at are about $300 or $400 not paying that for a piece of alloy so $100 I can live with..

Those lifts from "Neuer Hecklifter-Kit von DCC-Germany.com" look way more extreme in lift than the ones from Diesel-Moto ($99, but out of stock). I am planning on chopping my tail, but I want to jack my tail up as high as possible. That way my back won't always get blasted by what the cheesgrater caught, plus I can mount my plate on the undertail and have it still visible for the po. Which tail lift/subframe spacer is the most aggressive?

Can anyone tell me the thickness and also distance between holes (center to center) on the riser? I plan to make the riser and covers. I could add a do it yourself thread for the making complete spacer system (riser, covers, and spacers) similar to that on trojan horse when I am finished, anyone interested? These spacers can be made for about $20 with steel from a hardware store and common tools.

Deisel Moto did a run about 2 months ago, but sold out withiin a day and are in the midst of refining the tail lifts they released. We are all in hopes they decide to fix the issues and then release them again.

Polished mine to get rid of the horrible casting effect.
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/520_20100408211533_L.jpg

Then you had to drill out the hole as it was not in the correct location.

Overall look side by side with BuellChicks bike and mine, note I have an Ss swing arm but you can see the tail difference.

xtreme, Yeah I've read the posts about the diesel moto spacers, and some some pics. I would have happily purchased some from them, but I was studying in Europe and my bike was in Utah. I didn't think they would be running out of them. Is pm-performance not making the spacers anymore? I'd get the trojan kit, but I don't think it looks as smooth.
