Going to pick this up in a couple of hours, it's ready to go. This is the first one I did like this, I think it was winter of 2010-2011, either December or January. It's been hiding in the corner of my garage behind a bunch of other stuff. Lost the original downpipe off of it, so it's got a new one. The pipe was only used for testing and to see if I could make one.

Better pics when I get it, this is just what the guy sent to me last night.

Black satin high temp powdercoat. $475 shipped.

If i knew dyno specs and tunes were available.

Gateway tuned one a while back, numbers should be similar to this. I've seen similar numbers on mine, 9 hp gain without tuning, etc. Just depends on where it starts out at.

This one is in PA somewhere, got polished though.

GAXB9R, yes. Might possibly make more, I really don't know. Gateway did that tune and then the guy modded it a little more, so it could make even more than what was posted.

Going to pick it up in another 45 minutes I think.

Not to be a prick(I like the piece, good craftsmanship and looks like it'd be a good performer) but that dyno is not good representation. The runs were on different days, there is a huge difference in temperature, etc. Was it the same dyno operator?

MotoX6

Is that just a modified car exhaust? lol

Dyno chart isn't everything. I realize it was done on different days, different temp, etc, but it's not like Marion (mechanic at gateway-hd) got it tuned in 5 minutes. It's still a 8 hp gain over what it started at. Yes, I'm fairly certain it was the same operator/tuner, he did them for quite a while. He's at another dealer now, maybe 30 miles south. There's a reason why all that data is printed at the bottom, it's calculated into the final hp numbers to give a somewhat accurate reading. I've used that dyno myself, the highest I've seen recorded from my personal bike was 139 or 140 I think. I've tested several bikes there and seen v-rods only make 115 at the wheel on it. That run was right after one of mine and the guy was pretty pissed that a "jap" bike made so much more power. He got even more pissed when he found out it wasn't what he thought.

Motox6, yes. GB sells these exact same mufflers, I think unpolished (raw) is $465? I do the downpipe differently and it sits a little (2" maybe?) farther back, closer to the tire.

They do sound pretty good for what it is, my hand crafted ones are very similar in sound, just a lot more work to make them.

Gotcha. Wasn't trying to poke holes in your product or anything...I just don't think that's accurate. Maybe it is though....I'm certainly no expert on dyno tuning...

Great looking exhaust! I went with a similar build (by GB), and would not hesitate to buy this one from D_Adams. This style of muffler sounds the best (in my opinion), makes very good power, and looks great/like it belongs on our Buells.

I haven't dyno'd my bike (and probably never will), but my butt and wheelie Dyno tells me that the midrange is at least as good as stock, and there is a significant gain on top
.

I'd take it if I could make payments. :D. I've been tossing around the idea of selling my drummer SS. Only thing is I don't want any down time so I don't miss out on any seat time durring my short time off......

Whats the interior design of the Magnaflow exhaust? Dual tube straight through? Do you have a pic of internals

freak2180
06-20-2012, 11:53 PM
Google :D

Its straight through.

d_adams
06-20-2012, 11:53 PM
Yeah, it's a pair of 2" internal tubes, they're smashed together though. From magnaflow, they're pretty rough looking inside, I cleaned this one up a lot. This is before I did any cleanup work. Mig wire was sticking out in several places, lots of burrs and rough surfaces all over.

pretty good lookin pipe for the price[up].GLWS!

I dontknow about the HP gains since D&D shows a 4horse increase from stock to there pipe with tuning and a K&N. I say that bcuz the internals are very similar. Not tryin to start an argument, 8 just seems like alot, but im not a dyno:D

They're actually not very similar--the Magnaflow's body also acts as part of the chamber, unlike the D&D's that utilize "only" two straight tubes. I could have bought any exhaust, but the sound and appearance was very important to me. These Magnaflow-based systems sound very, very good, with no "tinniness" or whiny sounds... Deep, throaty, authoratative rumbles... LOL! Most of these have dyno'd with at least an 8HP improvement--mine is at least as much. The D&D is not known as a huge power maker. I'm not knocking them, just stating what I've read and experienced.

Now, factor in the "custom" nature of D_Adam's exhaust (and GB's, for that matter), and the fact that this particular unit is powder coated black AND you can talk to the maker, AND that he's outlined what care he took in manufacturing it--unparalleled customer service and satisfaction is what it adds up to. My .02

Quality will be top notch I can assure you. The keda I won is top notch. And will be going on the dyno hopefully in the next week or two to get some more numbers for him. Just getting the tuning dialed in.

It's hard to judge how loud they are from videos

d_adams
06-21-2012, 01:38 AM
This is the actual pipe, I've had it since maybe Dec of 2010. Built it in Jan of 2011. It's pretty mellow at idle, pretty close to stock in sound, at least to me anyway. Anything above 2500-3000 rpm, it's a totally different sounding bike.

Shot with a gopro hd.

iCXOm-l34Eg

I guess if you're looking for screaming loud, this isn't it. It's got a good rumble with a little bit of wild to it, but it's not like straight drag pipes. The d&d pipe is a little louder, but it doesn't sound the same, I guess they're hollow with no packing at all? The d&d sounds tinny to me, but that's just my opinion.

Is it a lot quieter then the rt1 xb?

This is on my list of pipes to use, next to a D&D & a Keda. Just hafta wait for cash to fall out the sky

d_adams
06-21-2012, 02:08 AM
The magnaflow is just a tiny bit quieter at idle than mine from what I remember. Overall, mine are louder everywhere, but at idle, both are very close to a stock pipe. 5-6k rpm, mine are definitely louder.

GOduc
06-21-2012, 02:17 AM
Agreed. Keda at idle is about the same as all the others. @3000 i would say its "noticeably louder" than any other pipe I've heard in person.

I stand corrected i didnt realize. I suppose that would make a significant difference in sound and performance.
