Why won't these work on an 2005 XB9SX?

Because your bike doesn't have a factory accessory port on it. They will fit on the bike, you will just have to get creative on wiring them in. It just won't be plug and play like its designed.

Roccodart...since you're going to have to do some tooling with the wiring setup anyway, I would recommend getting the heated grip set from ASB...much, much cheaper. Also, if you want to get professional looking with the deal, order a right-hand switch box for a Uly and wire the heaters through the factory switch...I have that on my '03 9R and I think it looks pretty good.

I went to ASB and took a look. Thanks for the link.

The uly right hand switch box will fit the XB 2005?

If I bought the Uly right hand switch box would the factory kit work then?

I'm looking for a way to make it a plug and play deal even if means swapping out more parts.

it's not going to be plug and play until you have a ulysses...

Here is an update for anyone intersted.

I called ASB today. If you buy the right side box, the power line can easily be spliced into the existing wiring and the factory heated grips are then a plug and play aplication.

Good thread guys. I would really like to see some pictures of this right hand swithbox installed on XB's. VERY cool ideas here.

hey, you know, for any extra accessory, like a license plate LCD thing, or what have you, a uly RH control isn't a bad idea!

Just got my heated hand grips for my 12R, havn't even opened them. My question is, is it pretty much plug and play except for putting on the new mount? Maybe I should open them up and look at the directions before asking this hmmmmm...
