smokey start up?

my 09 xb12scg is throwing out a very grey fumey smelling smoke on start up,i rang harleyworld,UK, (where i bought it),and they just said its due to me doing short journeys to work and back and it needed a good blast to clear the plugs of any crap,is this quite normal? ,as they just dont seem interested in talking to me at all.

That could play into it, but not all the reason. How many miles do you have on it? Is it only on start up and then goes away? When you say fumey go you mean gas fumes? What's it smell like? You can smell if it's oil or gas coming out.

Go warm her up real good and hit the road, when you get a long stretch in front of you open the throttle all the way up and hang on till your almost to redline, that clears things out prety well and does good things for your plugs.
