I've got a 2006 XB12ss and I love the new CR handle bars. Can they fit on my bike with simple mods to the cables or will there need to some crafty work to make it happen?

Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks for the help. I'm new to these forums so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

They should bolt right on. The cables and lines might be a little too long, so it might not look the best, but should work.

Awesome, even the part number.

Thanks,

They don’t. They are too big. You need a riser that accepts a larger diameter bar. I've been waiting for those to come out just for that reason. It’s possible to get them on...but it’s not as simple as just bolting them on. Sucks.

So just have your riser and top clamp bored to that diameter

I thought of that, but How?

Take off your triple tree and take it to a machine shop with the bars and top clamp. All the difference is 7/8" to 1" clamping areas. They should be able to take that out to make it fit.

What about cables?

Will the stock work, maybe just look a little funny. I really love the bars and think it would be coll to make it work.

Seems like a lot of work for a minimal result. But, if you were going to do it, wouldn't the fat bars be 1-1/8" in diameter?

Cables should be ok. Even if you do nee a new cable that would be a snap. I dont think it will look funny. I'm thinking of doing this as well. Either that or the XB12R tripple tree conversion. If you do it please post pics. I would love to see it. Good luck!

BPG I got that first post, I should have elaborated. I was wanting someone who might have done something similar to elaborate on the cable issue.

I'm going to do something with the handle bars and when I'm done you guys will get to see the mods.

If you would like a set of 1 1/8" risers there is a company called Precision Engineering that makes them for the XBS models. You may have to Google Precision Engineering Buell to get the correct website.

I put them on my Blast the week they came out. Just had to get some risers. The risers were from a company called Fly. It was $200 for all. I'm really happy with the result.

The bars are called "Clubman" and they used to be available from various suppliers in 7/8 diameter. I bought a couple of sets in the Eighties, I would think someone would still be selling them.

Try this link, I Googled it and there are quite a few. These were about $22 and if you bead blast the chrome it leaves a finish similar to the upper tree.

Hey BPG, I acquired an 1125 CR handlebar on ebay and the come with the cables off the bike also. The guy replaced the "stock" bars and cables. I know u stated that the bars are a "direct bolt on", but what about the cables? I have an 04xb12s. I am def. going to [ut the bars on, but know that what I have on currently (cables) are going to be longer. Thanks in advance!

They are not direct bolt on they will require a larger clamp.

Rizoma also makes bar adapters that are much sleeker looking, but they also have a sleeker price.

Cool! Thanks guys.. I got the bar and stock CR cables together off ebay at a great price. Just wasn't too sure on the 1125 cables fitting my XB. I will have to post pics once done! BTW Merry Xmas to all and your families!

What was wrong.....was the thicness of the bar different from the thickness of the riser bar clamps?

Sorry to hear things didn'twork out just right. Please let me know if you get this worked out.

which part do you still need?

Somthngfrce

Yes, the thickness of the bar is 1 inch and the ones I got were the standard size 7/8. I got my money back as the guy at the shop thought it was lighning bars and not 1125. I think he had a case of selective hearing,lol!.... anyways, now I am trying to find a set of 1inch as BPG had said. I tried googling sites online, but was unable to come across anything. So for now the CR bars and the cable set off the CR sit in the garage.

take the clamps and have them bored out to 1 inch, would be better than having to wait around. Just my $.02

Thanks FIDOSOL. I think you are right and will probably do that.

I will as soon as I finish! I found a place that will machine the risers/clamps...so I will drop them off and then do the conversion. I'm trying to figure out the 1125 CR stock cables that the guy threw in with the clamps that way I can have the shorter ones and not the longer current ones, AND trying to do this and chop the tail section that I have been putting off for a while BEFORE Bikeweek comes! Thanks again for the input.
