Hey everyone. I just joined this site. I bought my 06 Firebolt XB9R about a year ago, new, and I love it. Well I just ordered the D&D slip on and was wondering if its going to be ok with the stock fuel map. I have read the exhaust shootout on americansportbike.com and it says this muffler is not really a good match to the stock map. I guess because its a midrange pipe and the Buell mufflers make their power in the bottom and top end. If it wont be ok will the Techlusion TFI box fix it? I'm also planning on putting a K&N air filter and open airbox on my bike. Any advice/help will be appreciated.

It will run fine with the stock ecm. Not perfect but definitely good enough. I have DL and d&d map also, but not yet installed as it was not urgent and haven't had time. I've put 500 miles on my 12 with d&d and stock ecm, k&n filter, stock 07 air box. Although at times, mine sounds like it's gasping for air.

I think that the Direct Link would be the best way to go but is there a place that you can download maps or does it come with presets? I just don't have any experience with the control of fuel injected vehicles and would not be able to map it myself.

You will need a wide band o2 sensor along with the direct link system, and preferably a dyno. Most pipes out there have fuel maps available and you can order new race ecm's with the proper map for your setup. I havent done mine and it seems to run fine. The stock ecm will adapt to your new pipe and sort of re-program itself. I have an 06 as well and will be modifying my stock airbox and re routing my breather hoses. My bike seems to hiccup around 2-3k rpm at constant speed. I dont think that has anything to do with not having the right fuel map, I think its the poor airflow and crappy breather hose/emmission control designed from Buell. It did this when I had my stock pipe on as well.

Cool. So where can you get the maps for the pipe? I searched the internet and couldn't find anything like that. I'm just trying to figure all this out before I buy the DL system.

Al @ ASB has a map for the d&d which is still in beta testing. He guessed it would be complete in a month or two(that was ~ 3 weeks ago).. I purchased the beta map after long discussion with him, and will get the final release when he is finished with it. He's the one to speak to or order from..

Thanks. By the time I get to this part of the project, he may be done with it. I'll have to talk to him when I get closer to ordering DirectLink.

I got my muffler Saturday night and installed it. It sounds awesome! It's got that Harley lope at idle, and Harley sound at low throttle cruise, but when you open it up, Man.. it sounds wicked!
The bike runs fine, it hasn't done anything wierd so far. It may even run a little better.. smoother on the bottom end and more midrange torque.

But it is running lean trust me. Get the race ECM or DL.

Alright thats a relief. Hey, I've only seen like one or two other Buells in my area (that's one of the reasons I like owning one) so I don't think I'm going to get to hear mine next to another.

I ran a D&D with a race ECM and have had Dyno time. I know that your bike is running lean. A race ECM is something you'll want to do or a DirectLink system ASAP.
