Clutch Issue

I'm having an issue with what I believe is the clutch handle or the clutch cable. I was trying to move my 2001 blast this morning and Having it in first I just pulled in the clutch thinking that I'd be able to just roll the bike forward. However, it seemed as if first was still engaged and wouldn't let me roll the bike forward. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

its a wet clutch and when its cold there will be lots of drag. sounds normal. on 2 stroke dirtbikes you have to blip the throttle when you kick it into 1st otherwise the clutch drag will actually cause it to stall.

is that common even when the bike is not on? I was under the impression when the bike is off and in first I could just pull in the clutch and move the bike.

It's not normal, these aren't two stroke dirtbikes (even my dirtbikes don't do that).

Your clutch needs adjustment per the FSM.

its more common when the bike is off. because its cold and the primary chain is not spinning at all you have to break static friction. you should be able to get it to break loose but there will be drag, can you get it to move at all? you may want to look at adjusting your clutch per the service manual. in first gear the input to the transmission has all the mechanical advantage so the clutch drag is amplified at the rear wheel, try pushing it around in 2nd with the clutch pulled in.

It would move maybe a couple inches then the rear wheel would lock up. I didn't try putting it into second and moving it that way, would that make a difference? What kind of adjustment would be necessary? I was thinking that it might be something to do with the clutch cable but I wasn't sure.

it could be as simple as your clutch cable. do you have a lot of freeplay at the lever?

Wow, awesome thanks. I haven't printed off all of my service manual yet and this was not in the section I printed off. I'll definitely have a look at that and see if that fixes the issue.

No, it's not. That means your clutch needs adjusted.

A properly adjusted Blast clutch has virtually no drag, hot or cold, running or not. Certainly nothing anywhere near what the OP is describing.

if the op literally has all he can do to move the bike and/or his wheel is skidding that is not good. my point was simple, it wont be as easy to push your bike in gear with clutch pulled in as it is in neutral. there is no arguing that. i did provide instructions to adjust the clutch which it sounds like he probably does need.

some people think there should be no difference and that is incorrect.
