View Full Version : Aluminum Sprocket, 34 tooth

For greater acceleration replace your XB12 primary sprocket with XB9 sprocket tooth count (34).

If you would like your motor to spool up quicker, lighten the rotating mass by using an Aluminum sprocket.

My bike is a '04 XB12S

I replaced my clutch, basket, cage, sprocket and final drive with CNC Aluminum parts from Evolution Industries.

I have an extra brand new sprocket for sale from these guys. Pic is posted

Point Doc, it's over my head also. What are the advantages with the Evolution clutch, basket, cage setup?

yea thats the question i want answered

It's about removing rotational mass.

It takes energy to move an object. The more mass it has the more initial energy it takes to move it and then to maintain this motion. This energy does not make its way to the rear wheel, it has been used.

If you reduce the weight, the energy that was used for the OEM setup should find its way back to the rear wheel.

The stator rotor weighs in at 3lb 10oz. The XB9 sprocket is 3lb 6oz, the XB12 is more! These two items are attached to the engine crank. This weight reduces the throttle response.

The OEM clutch assembly is frickin heavier. I do not have the specific weight available.

If you use the CNC'd aluminum, there is a reduction in weight.

I have also cnc'd lightning holes in my stator rotor to remove 7.2 oz of mat'l.

In the end, the motor spools up quicker. Providing the rider harder acceleration from idle to the limiter.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks

firechickenXB9R,

If you could be specific, I will be able to answer your question. I have several items from them.

I have replaced the sprocket, clutch basket, clutch hub and the final drive.

A personal note:

I choose to go this route for modifications verses any other primarily because of fuel mapping. I wanted to stay away from it and in principle keep the motor and map stock.

I felt this was a simpler way to gain power to the rear wheel and this is done by reducing any unnecessary consumption or restriction of the delivery of this power. Simply put, use what I have as efficiently as possible.

For those of us who do not have access to a dyno, exhaust gas analyzer or the time to data log, this was the only safe option. This mod will allow the motor to deliver its power with less restrictions and zero time remapping/tuning.

This is my personal opinion and I am sure others will vary.

I am interested in all you have done. I have been thinking about putting a new clutch in my this winter. Can you tell me (and maybe pics) of all you have done. Maybe part numbers and price?

Thank you.

P.S. It would be so sick to be able to see that Clutch basket. I may have to work on fabing that![confused]:o:D[cool][cool]

what kind of hp/tq increase are you expecting?

how much did all the hardware for the head cost you

im looking into doing some head work

Point_Doc
12-03-2008, 03:35 AM
The head work I had Axtell do was to cut out the combustion chamber area in order to fit the pop-up pistons this create's an even squish band. They also did a valve job.

Also bored the cylinders over 0.005 to fit the new pistons.

Very happy with my bike, they only problem the bike has is me; always wrenching :p

I ride the bike hard every outing and it never fails me!

I only ride one day in the weekends and maybe one night a week and I have over 18k miles on her.

I bought my '04 in '06 with only 3k.

I will ride 300:400 miles each weekend day outing.

I modeled and CNC'd a Ducati Brembo Caliper adapter plate. Installed Ducati Brembo Two Piston Caliper. Installed Brembo Rear Master Cylinder.

The mod of switching over to the TWO PISTON BREMBO CALIPER delivers you ZERO increase in braking performance. It is only for cosmetics!

The Rear Master Cylinder needs to be replaced with a better one. Then it will work great.

PIAA Driving Lights, I like to ride at night in the summer. These lights allow me to keep sight of the line while in a turn.

PIAA Light Switch is on the left side, right above the low/high switch. The lights are wired with a relay switch that is energized when I switch the lights to high.

I do not know the life of a unit. I believe that the driver will have the greatest impact on this.

Been asked a couple times but im still at the starting line.

1. source for parts
2. part number?
3. expected price?
4. when looking for parts and buell is not listed what do I need to know in order to get the right stuff..

I dont know anything but would like to learn.

did you make it yourself?

I hope this is useful...If you call, ask for Gary and let him know that John from San Diego gave you this information. He should be very helpful.

He has been my contact point from day one and should be able to assist you with your Buell.

They also sale the final drive in aluminum. They are the only source for this that will replace the 27 tooth OEM part. Baker sale's a 26 and 28, but we use a 27.

You will have to inquire about this part, because it is not advertised.
