Hi all, have just gone to change my drive belt on my 02 Firebolt9.Looked at the rear pulley and the chrome seems to have worn on the tops & thrust faces of a few teeth, but not at the bottom of the groove.I checked the manual but it don't say what is acceptable. The belt has done 16500 mls but seems OK no cuts/holes etc.If I dress off any sharp edges will it be OK to re-use it?(the pulley that is)

Cheers guys
Limey.

chrome? you mean the shiny, work surface?

if there's a sharp edge that could damage your belt, yea...soften it up a little (not to much or you belt could jump on hard acceleration.

when the belt does, upgrade to the newer version belt & pulley.

I also have an 03 bolt and was wondering how you could tell if you have the upgraded belt and pulley? Thanks.

Hi LeFox,thanks for confirming my idea,(yes the shiny surface).Just as I thought, smoothing out any sharp edges will be OK,as no damage to the old belt has occured.I will fit my new belt to the old cleaned up pulley (good as new!)Also to squiers007 I have not upgraded the belt and pulleys due to the cost here in the UK,but I don't do that many miles anyway (3-5000 a year)

you'll notice when your belt snaps before 40000km's ;)

Best way to tell is the belt cover the 03 covers dont fit the new pulley its too big. If your belt is totally enclosed you have the 03 sprockets ( thats is if the cover are still on). Another way is to see if there is a part number on it check with BPG and he will let you know what it is.

Hey BPG, any help on this one with part numbers, also could you let me know how much the newer sprocket and belt would cost. Thanks.

the newer belt is a goodyear one...so if it's not worn too much, you'll be able to see that. ;)
