Ok, so I want to relocate my license plate. On the "S" model bikes they have that stupid pasta strainer looking thing. It seems to be all one piece connected to the tail light housing. Short of buying a relocate kit for like $300 is there any way to do this with the stock setup? I've seen some easy ones on this site but all were for the "R" setup. Are we "S" owners screwed or what?

Dozer,

Cut that sucker yourself. Really easy. First remove it,then with a permanent marker draw a line on it and how you want it shaped. Then with a hack saw cut the excess off just before the line you drew. Then with a Dremel or a small grinder bring it down to the line you drew to the shape you like. Then use sandpaper to sand and to finer papers to desired smoothness. You may find some poor fill in are's but you can buy medal filler at any automotive store to fill them and sand smooth after it dry's. Redrill holes for turnsignal's and your done. Prime and paint how you wish. You can buy spray paint from Buell that matches your frame if you wish. I did mine and it took me about 2 hours to get it cut and shaped and ready for paint. Cost??? The price of sandpaper and medal filler about 10 bucks.

Thats what I had planned on doing. I wanted to know if someone had done something different, using different mounting brackets etc. I dont know if its possible I might have to get creative :D

Do you guys have pictures of this process or finished work?? Any recommendations on where to cut what? Did you get the spray paint from a local dealer?

I didn't take pics when I did it but it was pretty easy and the aluminum is soft enough to shape easily.

Any Buell dealer can order it in a rattle can for you.

Ok, so I had a brain fart. I'm gonna try mounting my plate sideways on the swing arm. I figured some sheet metal and snips would do the trick. Gonna paint when finished and post some pics. Anyone have a better idea how to do this? I know my way will work but I dont want it to look ****ty, and thats what i'm afraid of.....guess we'll see.

Yeah thats sweet [up], I was thinkin of doing the same but on the right side. Re using the screws and holes for the belt guard I took off.

How did you mount that?

Oh, I like how you mounted the stock plate light, you totally read my mind. I was thinking about using some small LED's for mine, I wasnt sure how it would look using the stock light....but it's sweet [up]

Dozer,
The arms of the plate holder slide into the holes for the brake caliper in the Swingarm. All then you need is longer bolts to reach the brake caliper its self.

That's what I figured from the picture. What did you use to make them?

Are they powder coated or painted? Either way it matches the swing arm very well [up][cool]

Its all aluminum tubing and sheet. The paint is Buell XB12 frame and swingarm paint so its a perfect match. It almost looks like it came that way.

Sweet, I pulled one of the caliper bolts and went on a hunt for longer ones. Came up empty, do you remember the length or where you bought them?

Thanks

Hey "crshalladay"... I have just the link for you. It's my thread from BuelletinBoard.com. I posted a very detailed, picture guided tour of the process involved to chop that ugly tail piece. Check it out here (http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3434).

NOPE!... and I had a cop sitting right freakin behind me at a stop light. In my town, cops are real lazy. I've never had a problem.
