turns out that the gas was 87 octane and 8 months old... I drained it and dropped in new spark plugs.. idle went to normal pretty much.. it reads 900 rpms but I think the tach is off. Idle sounds stable, no stumbling but it does sound kinda low.. If I try to turn the idle screw up a little bit it actually stumbles and slows back down... TPS reset maybe? Other than that, its running real nice under throttle..

a lot can happen in 40 minutes eh Gloomy?

Change the grips on it? Get some gel ones, the larger diameter grips will help.

Good luck with selling your no-longer-in-production collectors' items. :D The vibes are the nature of the beast. A lot of sport bikes have a lot less vibration. Have you considered one of the new plug-in bikes? :D. Just bustin' your grills.

yeah Im looking for a GIxxer and its gotta be a 1000 and its got to make no more vibration than my laptop. I just cant stand this Harley boat anchor anymore.. it vibrates my footsies too much and my mirrors are usless and Im too scared to go into a Harley dealership.... they got too many vests on over there.. I cant get parts for old obsolete bikes that they don't make parts for anymore and these XBs break too often. Its also waaay to slow for my skill set... Im gonna get a ZX-14 next time... I cant even outrun a SV650 with my Buell... Buells suck ass.

NO NO NO NO NO! I just read on the Suzuki forums that a SV650 will beat any XB12R out there.... and that is coming from the SV riders themselves and they know the deal.. everybody knows that Suzuki is the best, don't you know that XBs have a 1950s motor and weigh in at 500 lbs???

So true! And how about the gas tank on those buells?! They don't even HAVE. A gas tank? The fuel goes in the frame [confused] Silly Buell engineers couldn't tell the difference between an air box and a gas tank? And that funky front rotor?? What the hell was Buell thinking. These bikes are nonsense! Not even to mention that swingarm. Ooooooh don't even get me started on that swingarm. :o

Wow I guess just about everything I own has a 1950's. The only way a sv650 or ex650 is gonna beat my xb is if I forgot to put intake gaskets on the manifold an the air gap causeS a periodic cylinder misfire back and forth(when someone does this I call it a blast an a half). That goes for 1/8 mi and quarter.

my zx14 vibrates a lot worse than the buell at the bars numb hands will still be a problem.the 14 is much better in the twisties fast or slow.it sucks for a in town bike and there is no comparison as far as hp and tq.balance is great the wife thought the 14 was lighter when she got on it.dont know what bikes you have ridden but if your going to push the 14 your skill set better be above average and then some.

Im selling both my Buells so I can buy a mowhawk to go along with my Icon fin kit... and there is no extended swing arm for the XB, how can I live without an extended swing arm? ... and theycallmecrash is totally right, if belt drive was any good, all bikes would run it.... and look at that rotor, that is just wrong! That rotor is not up to the task. Oh and I forgot, Buells have bad handling, they turn too slow.. plus, they fall down in the turns and the stand-up in the turns, depending on whatever you want to say at the moment.. don't you guys know anything? Buell riders are just Harley fanbois!

Gloomshadow
08-05-2013, 01:23 PM
goose: Buell had no idea what he was doing, none at all. He was just a motorcycle racer and a engineer. Buell could never know as much about motorcycles as the Honda board of directors. NEVER!... that's why he was forced to work with Harley and you know now Harley is...

Gloomshadow
08-05-2013, 01:27 PM
speaking of Harley.. Ive never actually seen a Harley RUN, they just sit there and leak oil and if they putt putt by,you just see a trail of nuts and bolts falling out the back in a looong trail. Harleys just cant take it on the American road system.. I don't even know why they put bags on those things they cant go anywhere. ..that's why all Buell XB motors "grenade" every 10,000 miles and need to be re-built. Hyosong says so.

I was reading a thread on a Tuono forum and the guys there talked 'ol boy into selling his 12S so he could go to track and race with his boys.... buys the Tuono and goes club racing, tells everybody he made the right decision, then came back about 2 weeks later on to the forum and told them that the Tuono was a turd on the street and he wished he had is 12S back.. boy said the 12S was faster in traffic conditions than the Tuono.. He wanted his 12S back I could tell by his comments. That killed the thread deader than ****.

Hey Gloom,I know why they put bags on Harley,s,The left one carries the tools, locktite, duck tape and parts and the right one is where you put everthing that falls off. Or is it the other way around. And don,t you guys know that a 80 year old grandma on a Goldwing can beat a Buell in the corners.

You 12r doesn't even rev up to 8k rpms?? It can't be cool?! Drop that bull**** and get a real mans bike. The fins and Mohawk are an absolute necessity too. They signify your alpha-maleness and boost your riding skills. I've heard they show a +25hp gain on the dyno too.

It's rare that we get to see one. Even in picture form. I heard the last guy that tried to ride it was dressed in full gear and burst into flames as soon as he turned the ignition on. Zero: you mention the "Sharknado". yeah my boy gots one of those. So bad they made a movie about it.Its a "Man-Style" special order "Busa", bored out to 2100cc, turbo, quad-Gatlin' exhaust AND ITS AN AUTOMATIC! The Quad -Gats keep the cops off your tail but here is the real cool part. The entire body of the bike is a LCD screen!! Hit the button and its "STEALH", hit the button again and its a moving "Flame Job", hit the button again and the bike plays XXX Porn, sound and everything...makes those bitches come RUNNIN!!! That Sharknado is so ****ing fast that the cops cant clock you on radar, they can only ESTIMATE your speed by using the "Doppler Effect"..that way you can beat that ticket in court!! that's right, if Buells were any good they would still be in business... and they would all be lowered stretched and chromed out like a mother****er with big ass chicken strips on the tires like the above R6... Buell engines sucked so bad that they needed 1125cc's just to beat the 600s!

( I just ****ing love that one.. squids tend to forget that the 600s were racing against 250 two-strokes at that time so the 600s were "cheating" also. if you wanna use that same reasoning and KTM's were running that exact same 1125 motor that the Buell had! Engine configuration is totally beyond the average squid)

djs2k2
08-07-2013, 06:28 PM
Erik still is in business, and pretty sure Harley shut them down because of ownership because they were selling just fine. And you just gotta love the torque numbers. And yes 1125 bigger than a 600, but 4 cylinders are also more than 2. ;)

ha ha NO, this thread is all fun and games. I own TWO BuellXB's.. I love my 12R so much that I bought a 9SX a few years later. Its an excellent machine, the STREET FOCUS of the engine is the best part of the XB. Its a bike that can hang with a full-on 600 racebike in the curves but the toughness of the Thunderstorm on the street will beat out a lot of other motors dollar for dollar. The engine is very similar to the MUCH LOVED Ducati 900SS and the 1000SS motors...even the gearbox feels similar. It always pisses me off to hear about how GREAT the Duc L-twin is and how "primitive" the Thunderstorm motor is...ha ha Id take the Thunderstorm over the SS motor any day of the week just by the cost involved and I think the Thunderstorm is a tougher motor and better under street conditions.

Then I read about XB's in other Forums... the **** those guys say about Buells is ****ing hilarious! They have never owned one, never even seen one in person and they repeat the most pussy assed complaints you could ever think of.... "VIBRATION".. that's my favorite complaint. If you cant take the vibration of a XB at idle or at speed, you just don't ****ing belong on a motorcycle. XB vibration is ****ing SWEET AND DOCILE compared to my old 1988 Ninja 600.. that motorcycle was like sitting on the ****ing Electric Chair compared to the XB!! I guess Im just old and bitter now.. I cant believe how many pussies are into motorcycles nowadays just based on the whining bitching and moaning on some of those forums out there.. Its like "OH MY GOD THIS MOTORCYCLE LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE A MACHINE!! I CANT TAKE IT!!" HA HA

sad thing about the GSXR series is that they are good cycles in their class but for some reason in my area, whenever I see a GSXR there is a 70% chance of seeing a douchebag on it. Something about the word "GIXXER" attracts squids in record numbers... hes got a mowhawk on his helmet and if you bother to talk to him he knows next to nothing about other motorcycles... except 'Busas maybe.. they know about "R1's"...maybe "Ducati" but that's about it. ."Parallel Twin?.. Well time for me to join in on the fun. Buells are not even really bikes. Its just a sportster, so call it that. Harley made it as a stepchild. Then they did what any good parent would do to a problem child, get rid of it. Erik is old and that front rotor doesn't look good who cares if it works. Plus didn't they steal that exhaust valve idea from honda vtec motors. Yeah they would make the bike go faster put honda vtecs on them.:p So how did I do guys any advice is appreciated?

2K2, you did good.. what about this one?

I took the XB12S out on the highway and that pussy little flyscreen provided NO protection at all. The wind was beating me to DEATH, my arms stretched out of their sockets and my chest felt like an elephant had sat on it. Boy the XB would be SOO much better if it had a true "Man-sized" windscreen on it like the Tri-Busa has.. you know, a windscreen where you could light a smoke and text your girlfriend up for a booty-call. A windscreen that would protect you from an oncoming Sharknado or s Funami of Karate Cops... a "Mans Windscreen" that would keep you looking real smooooth as you rolled..

Crash, Zero.. the 'Busa is another sad story of "too much of a good thing gone wrong". The fastest GT off the show room floor, made in VAST numbers and now any Douchenozzle can pick a used one up in any Hood across the Nation for about 3 Grand. Over production killed that bikes mojo...and look at the styling! Looks like a Katana 1100 and Shamoo had a baby. The 'Busa has slowly become the new "Goldwing" but without the hard bags. You can ride that thing around all day and never come out of 1st gear.. so you have a ****ing fast bike that you have to ride slow. Riding that thing around at normal street speeds is like animal cruelty. Its the motorcycle equivalent of owning a Siberian Huskie and forcing it to live at your home at the mouth of the Mississippi Delta area.

I've ridden Gixxers and Busas before so I can say coming from experience, I didn't like either. :D

The problem I have with the Gixxers is that the center of gravity feels too high like all the weight is on top of the fuel tank. Didn't like the feeling at all. The Busa, what can I say, it feels as heavy as it looks and feels like you're trying to drive a 73 Cadillac Eldorado through the turns.

The problem I have with the Gixxers is that the center of gravity feels too high like all the weight is on top of the fuel tank. all the suzuki r street bikes feel that way its in the design thats like saying all the xb based bikes feel the same wich they do because its the design or dunlop tires feel the same because of the profile

Enemy Zero
08-11-2013, 07:00 PM
Yes that is correct. All the GSXR's feel like that. That is the point I was making. I do not like the feel of them, all of them that I've ridden and that spans a few different years and displacements. Some people like that feel. Some people also like dunlop tires. I personally couldn't be paid to put dunlops on my bike. Those are examples things I've never liked the feel of so I would never buy them. Doesn't mean someone else doesn't like them, it's just not for me.

I owned a couple Kawasakis and the weight felt more low and centered and I much preferred the feel of that. Same with my Aprilia and the R6's I've ridden. I enjoyed the centered low feel of them all and could ride them much harder and with more confidence than I could on my friend's GSXR's . Where as my friend was more accustomed to the feel of his Gixxer and didn't care for the feel of the Kawasaki's I was on. It's all a personal preference. I personally would never buy a Gixxer based on my experiences. A Busa, I have no need for one and didn't like how portly it felt while riding it, same with the ZX-14. Didn't like either one. but maybe I just don't like bigger bikes.

My XB on the other hand and the 1125CR I rode before, I was in love with and as long as the other Buells still have this same handling feel, I'll continue to buy them.

I'm a short guy with a short inseam so I just didn't feel comfortable on it. It felt better than a Busa, just way too big for me. I think If I got to spend more time with one rode it more often, I'd get used to the feel. The weight did go away at speed it was just being confident with stopping and holding up that beast. The Gixxer feel and how cheap a lot of the components looked and felt turned me off of Suzuki in general.

Im the same way Zero, 5'6" 145-150lbs...I don't like the feel of anything big...I took one look at the Busa and instantly knew that I would not like it.. sat on it, picked it up and I was like "**** noo" rode it around the parking lot and it just felt like a car to me. The power was seductive but just not my thing.. too much size and weight.

To this day one of my favorite bikes ever was my 1988 Ninja600R that I had tricked-out over time. It felt like a really fast Norton, it was raw and didn't protect you from anything.. ****ty suspension and the brakes were just basic as hell. I learned a lot from that bike.. just enough technology to go fast and not enough technology to give you any false confidence. Riding that thing, I always felt like I was in big danger of something bad happening.. I think that bike made a better rider though.

The Gixxer feel and how cheap a lot of the components looked and felt turned me off of Suzuki in general.

Actually I feel like the handlebar controls are cheaper on my Buell than they were on my jap bikes. I suppose that's just the cost of an affordable American made bike. To each their own though. I'm not here to say any bikes are superior to others, *cough *cough *Buells are the best, but each bike is designed from different perspectives. I have owned a few kawi's and a few yamaha's in my day an my favorite apart from my last two buells was honestly my '02 r6. The only thing that would make my buells perfect for me is if they had a seating stance like the r6. Buells don't really have that "crotch rocket stance" from the factory. As for me, my riding style doesn't like the powerband of the i4's and I despise the noise. I'm a twin man all the way. God knows the best things on this earth come in pairs *cough *boobs *cough *cylinders [smirk]

I dislike all this new gadgetry being put on bikes. Don't get me wrong it saves life in some situations but I believe if you can't safely ride a bike that doesn't have any of that computerized nonsense on it you have no business being on one at all. And yes I understand that they are a very safe feature but I feel they are relied on too much. Plus I feel that it interferes with the whole rider/bike mental aspect. I like being in direct control over my bike rarer than knowing I have to rely in a computer to save my ass lol.

And as for busa's, If i ever wanted to feel like I was driving a very fast hippopotamus and didn't ever have to worry about turning then I would definitely buy one.

Rant over. Please continue as usual.

Oh yeah almost forgot, Buells suck. :p

Yeah Buells suck..but I never really felt like the controls sucked. To me they always just kinda looked and felt "normal.. I don't know if its true but I heard that the company that made all the switchgear was the same company that made switchgear for Ducati. Another thing that definitely doesn't suck is the tach and speedo.. I cant stand digital.. I love analog. I feel I have a faster time at glancing down and getting a reading off those dials. Digital you actually have to "read".. with a dial you just glance down at the angle and get a general impression of what the reading is.
The best way to make a Buell XB suck less is to get one where it goes really fast in a straight line and not turn at all.. I hate that "twitchy" feeling of a motorcycle that can change direction.. I hate that ****! If I pass a fine piece of booty walking along side the road, I look at that ass and the bike heads straight for her.. don't you hate that? That **** never happens on 'Busa.

Yeah, "Praise for Buells".. dear God, what is the world coming to?

Here is one that's gonna burn you up, like something straight out of "Cycle World" magazine.

"Motorcycle Genius John Britton and his revolutionary motorcycle masterthesis the Britton RV1000, CHANGED THE WORLD with its totally rational layout and groundbreaking performance, was well suited to levels of mass production never before seen in the world of Motorcycling. A true motorcycle for the masses worthy of Soichiro Honda. The motorcycling world will miss John dearly, God rest his soul.
Now we are left with only the flawed Genius of Erik Buell with his funky designs, illogical layouts with fuel in the frame and mass centralization all wrapped around the fossilized and obsolete Harley Sportster motor. Not many were made, for a REASON. High prices and wonky handling, limited parts availability and crude switchgear plagued the production line. Buell motorcycles were so bad they nearly broke Harley Davidson's bank. Good riddance, Buell!"

evo, Ive carried BOTH in service. They are BOTH good but you have to adapt your tactics with each one of them. AR you use more like a rifle, AK you use more like a submachinegun... an AK up close inside a cinderblock building is amazing! Most Infantry combat happens at under 100M anyway.. only thing holding back the AK is the sights. Put a Red Dot scope on say a AMD-65 and at 50M you can chew through any cover that anyone is hiding behind given enough time and enough ammo, especially with Chicom steel-core ammo.
