So, I've come to the conclusion that I have a broken clutch cable, (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Lightning-XB12S-XB12Ss-CityX-XB12Scg/Oil-leak-from-buell) in particulary the ferrule. The clutch cable still works, but the primary is leaking oil due to the broken ferrule.
I have a few questions:
1) Is it possible to just replace the ferrule on the cable since it is still functional? They cable has +10k miles on it, so it's probably not a bad idea to replace it, but I thought I'd see if it was fixable.
2) Has anyone ordered a clutch cable from "Rusty Riders" on eBay? The dealership quoted $56 for the cable, about the same as ASB has listed. On eBay, "mrssuperdeals" is selling a clutch from "Rusty Riders" for $33. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Clutch-Cable-for-Buell-XB12S-XB12X-XB12Ss-XB9SX-XB9S-XB9SL-XB12XTT-XB12R-/360656093170?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ABuell&hash=item53f8c73ff2&vxp=mtr)
3) Does anyone know what barrel size I would need for an 03 XB9S? I called Barnett yesterday about a clutch cable, and they don't carry one for a Lightning, but for ~$102, they can make a custom stainless steel braided one. He had mentioned that there are different barrel sizes they have seen on the Buells where it connects to the lever, I think he said one was 3/8ths and the other was ... I forgot. If I order from them, I'm tempted to just send my old cable so that I can be sure to get everything right.
4) And finally, is anyone here selling a clutch cable? It just so happens that is has started raining once the cable broke, so I have missed out on any rides yet, but I'm eager to get this fixed and back on the road.
Thanks.
