View Full Version : The GB Buell XB exhaust system...

gbalias
02-19-2009, 04:22 AM
Heres a brand new GB exhaust for your XB. Fully stainless and ready to mount. Finished and brushed... Everything from the bend back. Comes with a new clamp for the bend-to-silencer connection, uses the OEM rear mount and OEM rear T-Bolt clamps. DOES NOT utilize the chin fairing.

This exhaust is safe to run on your OEM program, does better on the race program, but as for ANY modification, a good tune based on your mods will gain the most benefit. It wakes the bike up and puts some of the others to shame. (ie jardine, etc...) Xopti tested performance and compatibility! This system utilizes a magnaflow silencer and weighs in at about half the weight of the stock system. The exhaust valve for the 1203cc motors is also unused. Produces a nice rumble at idle without being too loud, but really comes alive at WOT while still maintaining a deep growl. :D

The price for the complete set-up is $465 plus shipping.

If you have any other questions, let me know.....this baby is goin on auction soon. As of now, this is the last one. I should have more by the middle of next month. Happy shopping folks! Give your bike the breathability its been asking for all winter!!!

looks & sounds good, gb!

how about making an additional bracket for the chin fairing?
when on circuit in euro country you need to mount an full oil pan for safety reasons. ;)

gbalias
02-19-2009, 05:49 PM
i made brackets for my bike, but its a pain in the butt. i had to go through a lot of design changes to keep them from cracking from the vibration. i didnt want to offer a product that i couldnt fully support. so as of now, i recommend getting brackets from drummer or jardine or something.

if someone wants to go racing, then maybe we can work something out for a bracket.

LeFox

jardine brackets crack too ;)

gbalias
02-19-2009, 11:26 PM
exactly. i tend to want to build superior stuff to whats out there.

as of the current design on my bike, theyve lasted a couple thousand miles so far.

Gbalias: Did you by any chance try welding stock fairing brackets to the exhaust? If so whats your verdict. Just wondered because I have a set already cut off and prepped for welding. Thats what I am going to try. The one that will be a pain is the front chin mounts. Great exhaust though!!

gbalias
02-20-2009, 01:39 AM
i entertained the idea, but wanted to keep the items separate so the pipe could be run without fairing and not look like somethings missing. plus, id have to build my own anyways since i didnt want to compromise quality/longevity by welding plain steel to all the stainless. different filler metal needed. ;)

Sound great. Did you get any dyno time?

gbalias
02-20-2009, 03:15 AM
me personally, not yet.

Chris at TrackDayMag is getting a prototype to do some testing and racing with. i need to modify the design a bit for the race belly pans. but he said they would throw it on the dyno. Xopti did some road/track testing and said it blows away the jardine, better pull than the special ops, and a bit better than the drummers. so its promising. but like i said, with ANY modification, its best to tune the FI system to match.

Not enough searching, lol. What did you order? If it's not a jardine I may be interested in getting it from you..Depends though, if GBalias is still putting a few out maybe I can get on a list or something, it sounds wicked good.

Already have it. It's custom ceramic coated black Remus. I like the sound of the Remus, but much prefer GB's Magnaflow setup. All it needs now is a black ceramic coated option ;)

right now its kinda a made-to-order type thing. i dont stock them...although if the demand is high enough...ill build a lot of them, THEN list it for sale.

I do have a tech question though. Do you loose or gain ground clearance or is it about the same size of the stock can?

09-16-2010, 04:12 PM
I think a lot of people feel that way. For those people, you can purchase a Jardine or Drummer fairing mount system. George was working on making them, but every single one invariably cracked. He's not one to put his name on a shoddy product, so he doesn't sell them. They are available through other manufacturers though.

I don't get the chin fairing. It seems like a silly little plastic band-aid on what is otherwise a very naked bike. I'm glad I got rid of mine, and haven't thought twice.

brightbuell
09-16-2010, 05:13 PM
I guess it depends on the color of the bike to. Mine is white so its very obvious, plus its a firebolt and its got more or a race bike fairing. If the bike is black you wouldnt miss it. Lightnings dont really need the chin fairing cuz they are more naked.

Torn about the chin... But, been researching exhausts and this looks like its one of the best. That being the case, I could live without the chin since I have a Lightning and it fits the look of a naked bike.

You can get chin mounts from either Jardine or Drummer (KD Fab).

I had the same misgivings about the chin fairing, and I may spring for the KDFab mounts, but the lean look of the smaller stainless muffler has really grown on me.

I've been going without the chin fairing on my spec ops for quite a while now and prefer it. Thinking of maybe swapping to the GB...the one time I ran into George it sounded awesome, need to see if I can meet up with him again to get some more sound exposure. Has anyone had their GB ceramic coated black and have pics they can share?

Just installed one on my SS! :D Nice clean welds, sturdy craftsmanship. Screw the front fairing. Less plastic to polish. My son came running out of the house after I fired it up. Love that Magnaflow sound, it's definitely a head turner. Great job GB!

Been a year with this exhaust - still love it. A real head turner.

I've grown to the look of the bike without a chin fairing - makes it more naked.

Just spoke with Jorge this afternoon as a potential customer had expressed some interest in his product. He's all settled and making exhausts to order. Just contact him and he'll make it happen.

Because of the relative infrequency with which he checks this site, it's probably best to e-mail him at baliasg [at] gmail-dot-com.

Rhino, might I inquire as to the price?

Rhino1
03-27-2012, 08:25 PM
Less than $500.

GB made reference to "better numbers than a Jardine..." and a couple others. I figure th build is similar to Latus, and we know those make nice power. I can't wait.

But I want to clarify--I am quite satisfied with the power of my XB12, and the sound of a big block V8 that emanates from the GB pipe is what I'm after; and I make no bones about it...

Before I get hammered for the "just enough" horsepower reference, I have a couple other bikes that over compensate ;)

uly luigi
03-28-2012, 05:26 AM
I agree, XT has plenty of giddy up, I just want the sound to match the power, and from what I have seen GB's pipes are almost a work of art, they look real good on these bikes

Rhino1
06-24-2012, 12:22 AM
Update. I've had the GB on for a while now (about a month), and I've been exceedingly happy with it. Although I have not dyno'd the bike, I know there is definitely more power everywhere, and definitely a nice big jump in top end. The sound is absolutely what I expected: VTwin thundering bliss... :D

Here's a pic of it mounted:

How loud are these pipes

Rhino1
06-25-2012, 07:39 PM
Well, definitely louder than stock--but nowhere near as loud as straight pipes:D

They're a nice, deep, throaty rumble, and of course, get louder as the revs go up. I'd say they're not as loud as, say, a Jardine, but they sound deeper...

not sure if gb is still making them or not.

but if youre looking for the same setup, dean from KEDA designs has one for sale right now. same muffler (http://www.buellxb.com/Buells-for-Sale/Buell-Parts-for-Sale/Magnaflow-11148-modded-pipe-FS.) that gb used to make his. dean modified it internally to run similiar to his rt-xb1.

seems like a steal to me, kindof surprised it isn't gone already. its already powdercoated, which will be about $75. and free shipping.

you can also buy chin spoiler brackets from jardine. they're about $75 i think. and you can run this muffler with the chin spoiler.

gbalias
06-26-2012, 03:15 PM
I am still making them, on a per-order basis.

because i dont get on these forums too often, its best to message me....but be patient. Ha.

I believe there is a clear difference in fit/finish vs that powder coated version....but iirc i think its a leftover or something. I had someone else message me asking if it was 'mine'....but it definitely is not.

gbalias
06-26-2012, 03:24 PM
the guys at TDM were the reason for development of the pipe. they ran and tested it on their very successful XB during the season. They were the ones to do the initial dynos but only with the pipe change. They left the Race ECM and everything else the same.

http://pbalias.smugmug.com/Cars/Buell/Buell-sponsor-shot/1071489244_q5Y7b-XL.jpg

the shiny type...hehe As i told a previous customer, the only way to express my standards are in the products i send to enthusiasts. Nothing leaves my garage unless its something Id put on my own bike....and im picky. Ive got over 26K miles on mine and still just as good as the day i mounted it.

I really don't miss the chin fairing at all--I love the way my bike looks without it. If I had an "R" I might look a getting the Jardine lower fairing mounts, but as is, I think my bike looks cleaner and more true "naked" or street fighter.

So I'm have a 06 xb9s with race ecm tuned to my ****ty fell apart Jardine pipe. and k n air filter with mod air box "holes" I was wondering if I needed to get my bike retuned to my new magnaflow exhaust that I'm makeing my self! So I did the muffler and well I love it. But I feel I can get more out of this bike. Like I said before its a 2006 xb9s with magnaflow muffler k n air filter holes in my air box. And a buell race ecm tuned by H D. To my old Jardine pipe. I've read a little on the 1050 kit. Seems to be a little pricey for what it is. Maybe 8 hp. So I've read. So what's next. What can I do now? :)

What EBR ECM would be most compatible w/ this pipe? Given the rarity of it, I doubt we'd see EBR developing a custom map.
