View Full Version : Brand new Buell Race Kit!

I've been looking for a replacement for the carbon fiber Jardine on my XB12Scg (it's a little loud for my quiet neighborhood), and I recently saw a post on BadWeB about a brand new race kit at a Harley Dealership in Georgia. So I call, and they confirm that they had one in stock complete with exhaust, K&N, and ECM! So I bought it and it's on the way to Los Angeles. :D

I figure I ought to send the ECM to EBR to have them update it to the newest map and fan programming. Would you guys agree that is something I should do, or would you run it as is?

Also, how much do you guys think the Jardine is worth? It's carbon fiber and comes with all parts, including the chin fairing brackets. My bike only has 1700 miles on it, and the exhaust only has 200 miles on it, so it's practically new. I know they are impossible to find new these days, and I figure it would be perfect for someone with an XB9...

How much $ did the kit set you back?

Sent you a PM neilrl79.

I've read that there are two finishes to the ceramic coated race exhaust, a satin silver or a polished finish. The new one is satin silver.

In my quest to find a race muffler, I found another one that is in practically new condition, and I was in the middle of buying that one too. That one has a polished finish. Soon I'll have two race exhausts and two K&N filters sitting in my garage.

Lately I've been telling my wife that we've been spending too much money on stuff we don't need. I'm sure she'll be rolling her eyes at me when she sees everything come in.

Leave the ECM the way it is. Its already tuned perfectly for the K&N and race pipe.

Thank you onelogue. I emailed EBR and they just replied with the same answer:

We cannot update any OEM Buell ECM’s or Buell Race ECM’s – it must be an EBR Race ECM for us to perform updates. However, the map that is in that ECM should work very well for you with the kit installed.

Thank you,
EBR Tech Support

I'm curious as to how much the new kit was too... I would not have guessed any where left.

Hello Robert, I will PM you the price if you give me a huge discount on one of your taillights. :D

Actually, I recently purchased an LED taillight and smoked lens cover through Ecliptech in Australia, but I haven't installed them yet. But I hear great things about your taillights!

I promise you guys if I picked up this pipe (which I never will b/c I have no interest in it), I would instantly tell you the price.

Can I post a picture for pvmike? Or would that be out of order? I have a good one in mind.

Shoot...wish I would have known about this since I live in GA. I would have driven to where ever it was to pick it up.

stellio78, I didn't post the price because I didn't think it was relevant; the reason I created this thread was to share my excitement for finding a brand new race pipe, and unfortunately there was only one of them for sale. So I bought it and it's going on my bike. If there were more available, I would have certainly posted about it so that someone else could buy it. But since there was only one, I didn't feel the need to reveal or brag about the price I paid - that just seems crass to me. I figured if someone really wanted to know the price, I would just PM them. But since there appears to be an enormous amount of curiosity about the price, I will confirm that I paid about $700 for it in total. I thought it was a good deal, and frankly I would have paid more for it.

GregoXB, please stop kissing forum ass on my thread. Shouldn't you be hiding out with the rest of your crew after the Range Rover incident?

I think people just want to gauge the market for rare items like that.

I didn't want to buy it but I was curious and I think many on here were too. I don't know the original price so I can't compare but congrats on getting it! I'm sure you will enjoy it! :)

Thanks lawdog! I believe the purchase price is the original MSRP, but I'm not sure.

konarider, I mentioned earlier that I have another race pipe on the way, and that one is practically new with no dents or blemishes. That one has a polished finish, and I'm into it for about $500. I thought that was a good deal as well considering the condition. I'll probably end up reselling that one, although I do like that finish better.

I think I've just been fortunate to stumble across two pristine examples. Most of the ones I see are pretty beat up and sell for less.

..... Ouch!!
But.... HAHAHA!!

That's not a bad price for a brand new kit. Considering I sold a used pipe alone for. $480 on eBay a while back.

That was a joke nimrod. :( I pm'ed the price to him immediately afterwards.

This forum needs an ignore function.

No dude, I don't care about that. I've revealed the price and dealership to anyone who has asked, and I even pointed out the thread on BadWeB which states the dealership that sold it to me.

Everyone else on this forum has been really cool. My problem is with you. I refrained from calling you an idiot on the Range Rover thread because we've never spoken, yet the first interaction you have with me is to talk **** to me on my own thread. So please try to get it through your little brain that you reap what you sow. You make great slow mo vids, but you're dumb as all hell.

GregoXB

Actually "ditto" is perfect because I don't make slow mo vids. So it makes as much sense as him saying it to me.

Was just at the same dealer that sold this pipe a couple hours ago. They've got a tank bra, and a buell tank bag too. There are a handfull of other parts they have, but these two are probably the most sought after. I also talked to the parts guy that sold this race exhaust, and he doesn't know how anyone knew about it, haha.

Sorry Renegade. :D I have another one coming, so I'll let one of them go.

Here's a pic of the Race Kit. It came with a race ECM for an XB9, so unfortunately I won't be able to use that.

Thank you Bossanova. I also have an all black XB12Scg, and I am slowly collecting parts for it. Your bike is an inspiration to me!

Here's a pic of the second race pipe I purchased. I plan on keeping one and painting or ceramic coating it black to keep with the all black theme.

I believe that pipe is the Pro Series and not the "Race" pipe.

There was no pro-series for the XB models, from factory it was stock or race.

Check my link above and this one:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J03038.pdf

"Pro Series Race Muffler".

pvmike
12-12-2013, 07:13 PM
818Guy, it's the same thing. Most people just call it a race pipe.

I ended up installing the used pipe instead; the shiny finish looked better against the all black bike, and both exhausts were just too clean to paint or recoat. I'll post pictures later.

I'm going to sell this new race kit since I don't need it now. I'll sell it for what I bought it for ($700) if a fellow forum member wants it. Otherwise, I'll probably end up ebaying it.

I believe the race muffler and the pro series were different mufflers on the tuber models
If you search them it will pull up different things. What I was saying is that the options from Buell were the race muffler which is what your diagram refers it as in everything but the title. It was advertised as the Buell race kit.

Interesting regarding the name of the pipes.

Seems it was called the "Race Muffler", see here:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J02736.pdf

And then it was changed to "Pro Series Race Muffler", see here:

I'm referring to part 65163-02YB. It is found in both instructions but different "names".

I created my own race kit. I picked up that exhaust (65163-02YB), an EBR ECM and a K&N filter. :D

All purchased for my incoming 2009 XB12Scg (on the truck being delivered this week). [up]
